Red Island Beach

Fantastic experience: The beautiful beach is protected from the sun by a high rock on the western side. So, the beach not suitable for sunbathing in the evening. Although it is officially a nudist beach and "PLATJA NUDISTA" written in big letters on the rock, the nudists are in minority. The visitors are tolerant, friendly, I didn't see any voyeurs. Camino de Ronda passes through the edge of the beach. Be ready to be photographed from all sides.

Fantastic experience: Best beach on costa brava so far. The beach consists of small rocks which feel very nice on skin. Also not so many people because it's a nudist beach. Very quiet and beautiful view even with a hike route through it

Fantastic experience: While hiking along the beautiful coastline on a warm day in October 2023, I came upon this stunning beach and took a break to relax, sun, and swim in the crisp clean tortoise water. Fortuitously, as I hadn’t brought a swimsuit, the beach was designated naturist, so I could just swim au natural without any other beach goers thinking anything of it. About 2/3 of the people there were sunning and swimming bare. The color of the surrounding cliffs was striking in the late afternoon light, and the micro-pebble sand was soft to walk on and could be easily wiped off. Ideal. Because of the position of the beach below high bluffs, it’s largely covered in shadows by late afternoon, so go earlier if you want direct sun. The waves were mild the day I was there, and being October the beach wasn’t crowded. Turned out to be a great setting for an unplanned afternoon at the beach.

Positive experience: Nice to see but there are better beaches for swimming

Fantastic experience: It's not easy to get there by car because it's not signposted anywhere. At the bottom, a bit hidden, there is a staircase to the beach. Halfway up that staircase, you can go right and reach the nudist beach. When we were there, the tramontana was blowing at full strength and the waves were so strong that swimming wasn't possible. There is also no lifeguard service available. The setting is beautiful and it's a very nice place to hang out.

Positive experience: Iconic place of the Costa Brava. It is a nudist beach, although unfortunately this fact is not respected and is gradually losing its essence, especially during vacation time when it is very crowded. There is plenty of parking space (for a fee) and access is relatively easy.

Positive experience: The place is incredible. The cliffs are beautiful, the water is clean, but there is an issue with the people. On the beach, there is a big sign saying 'nudist beach', but 80% of the people are dressed. It's a bit of a shame, but it wouldn't be a problem if people behaved properly regarding photos. Besides the people taking selfies (in swimsuits) without caring about those around them, we encountered a group of 6-7 young men, dressed, who were clearly talking about the pictures they had taken of women on the beach in a very explicit way. And when a woman told them she didn't want to be photographed, they replied that it was a public beach and they could do whatever they wanted (spoiler, no, the law doesn't say that). What about the fact that there are children on the beach and photos too? Will the photos end up somewhere on the internet? No idea. In short, the place could be really perfect if the city made a little effort, either by making the beach completely nudist or by putting up signs to say that photos are forbidden.

Fantastic experience: Cozy beach where you can enjoy crystal clear and fresh waters. You can go snorkeling.

Fantastic experience: Nudist, textile, and family beach. Everyone coexists without any issues. Fine pebbly sand is perfect for not bringing sand home. You have to bring everything, as there are no beach bars or showers.

Positive experience: I went to the Naturist area and it is quite nice. It is not sandy. They are very small stones, ideal for removing easily. The water wasn't very clear, but that can happen at any beach. We went in August and there were a lot of foreigners. Unfortunately, many people were in swimsuits, being a Naturist beach.

Negative experience: If you are narrow-minded and not going to take off your swimsuit, look for another beach.

Negative experience: Disappointment. It’s a nice beach. But as for being a nudist beach.... for every nudist there are 100 people in swimsuits. I'm not exaggerating. They should do something about it.

Positive experience: Mixed beach but with many nudists. You access it via a path from the nearby beach. It's very pretty with the rock in the middle and there’s a cool rock to jump cleanly into the water at the beginning. The problem is that there are usually waves and the bottom drops off quickly, so all the waves break on the shore, making it difficult to get into the water. Moreover, the water becomes very murky and you can't see anything while snorkeling.

Negative experience: Nudist beach for many years, currently overcrowded, full of tourists from outside Catalonia in swimsuits. The truth is that it’s sad to see these poor people who don’t respect anything. Not a recommendable beach.

Fantastic experience: The beach is certainly beautiful. When I arrived there, I didn't notice the signs on the walls about the nudist location, but the naked bodies clearly warned me that there was nothing to see here, unless I was a nudist. So I just turned around and walked back. I respect the customs of the locals and have no problem with it. I understand the locals' annoyance, but only to a point. If the beach was officially marked as nudist already on the directional signs in front of the beach, it would certainly be beneficial to locals and tourists alike. However, I haven't come across an official nudist beach in Spain (Catalonia) yet. Or rather, one that would refer to its focus before with looks of angry nudists or nothing to do with complaints about tourists on Google.

Se pide respeto en ambas direcciones, pero a la gente nudista no se nos permite el nudismo en el resto de playas. Que vengan invadiendo me parece una total falta de respeto

Fantastic experience: Along the Ronda path, you arrive at this wonderful cove which, although it is nudist—indicated everywhere—most people do not respect it. High occupancy on certain dates and days. The cove is one of the most beautiful on the Costa Brava.

Positive experience: Beautiful walk along the cami de ronda that you can start at Sa Riera beach in Begur and reach Illa Roja beach. You will encounter several ups and downs on a stony path and some dirt paths with incredible views, but it is easy to do with patience. We took about an hour for the round trip without rushing, and at the end, you can have a drink at the chiringuito La Gandula that you will find at Sa Riera beach. It’s best to wear hiking shoes, bring water, and a cap or hat to protect yourself from the sun.

If you must wear something, please show respect and stay at the edge. Snorkeling naked with the (naked) fish! It's beautiful!

Fantastic experience: Great nudist beach on the Costa Brava. Due to the arrangement and beauty of the rocks, it is very reminiscent of the Philippines. It is easily accessible via a path and steep stairs. It is not wheelchair accessible and not recommended for those using wheelchairs. Parking can be difficult, better to arrive early to find a spot and enjoy the beach.

Positive experience: Lovely cove easy to access. Normally a nudist beach even though 90% are in swimsuits, strange since there is a textile beach right next to it. Prefer it in the morning because the sun disappears after 3 PM and there's too many people...

Negative experience: Very crowded beach, it's not that great. Sa Riera beach is much better.

Positive experience: It is a beautiful cove with clear water. Due to the urbanization, Playa de Pals is full of tourists, and as if that weren't enough, it's filled with wealthy locals from Barcelona who vacation in Begur... It's a shame that such a beautiful place is so overcrowded.

Fantastic experience: We liked it very much! Perfect for going with the family! The water was incredible and very clean. In the afternoon, the best time, there were very few people. It's a shame that people keep smoking on the beaches and leave their 'cigarettes' in the sand.

Positive experience: Very nice beach where I was able to sunbathe totally naked because it is a nudist beach and it feels amazing. Arriving in the morning, there were only nudists and as the day went on, more and more textiles started to invade. What a pity! This beach is recommended for snorkeling. THAT'S FALSE!!! With the waves, the sand is stirred up so much that you can't see anything, and even when moving away, the fish aren't great. It is mentioned in big letters on the rock and at the entrance 'nudist beach' and textiles are welcomed. It's a good reminder for textiles about living together, because it really works very well.

Fantastic experience: A very nice place. We have been there several times. The sand is coarse and you won't be 'puffed' by the wind. Unfortunately, there are now often more people in swimwear, making it quite crowded. Sorry, I don't understand that. After all, I can't lay on all beaches without clothing and have to abide by the rules. The beach itself is clearly designated as naturist, and one should adhere to that.

DISADVANTAGES: - too many people... who don’t usually respect personal space... they come within an arm's length of your towel... - it’s a beach that you can only visit in the morning, as in the afternoon the sun goes down and casts a shadow over the entire beach... and by around 6:00 PM, there’s already shade all over the beach....
