San Lorenzo Beach
Information
The San Lorenzo Beach is a magnificent urban beach located in the heart of Gijón, extending approximately 1550 meters in length and shaped like a shell. It's an ideal spot for sunbathing, swimming, and surfing, attracting both locals and tourists alike.
Highlights:
- Beautiful fine golden sand.
- Wide promenade perfect for walks any time of the day.
- Various services including lifeguards and nearby amenities.
- Great atmosphere, especially during sunny days.
- Ideal for surfing, particularly in winter.
However, there are a few points to consider:
- It can get quite crowded, especially in the afternoons during summer.
- The water can be cold, making swimming less appealing during certain seasons.
- During high tide, the beach is significantly smaller, creating challenges for swimming and sunbathing.
- Some visitors have mentioned concerns regarding cleanliness and the presence of dogs on the beach.
Overall, San Lorenzo Beach is a charming location for a relaxing day by the sea, surrounded by beautiful views and urban life.

Positive experience: The water feels quite cold, and the sand near the shoreline is firm and compact due to the moisture. There are plenty of surfers out enjoying the waves, as well as several people paddleboarding nearby.
Fantastic experience: A beach paradise and a walk along it with many areas to spend the day, afternoon, or night. I recommend going to staircase 0 next to the church that has incredible views. I also recommend the breakwater, to get to that spot you have to do the full walk, and there you will have very beautiful views.
Fantastic experience: Gijón has 3 beaches in the city Gijón... one is Arbeyal Beach and the second is Poniente Beach and the third is San Lorenzo Beach in Gijón... It is bigger than everything, and the only bad thing is that most of the time the water rises to the benches by the sea... so there isn't enough space to swim... There is little space to swim when the sea rises... it has several stairs... people use the stair numbers for quick reference...
Fantastic experience: A very beautiful beach, it has a ramp and several staircases, as well as a long path for walking. It has very good views and next to it is the Church of San Pedro.
Fantastic experience: Super cozy beach, good parking to put your car and not waste time looking for a parking spot... Plenty of space to occupy its sand and super friendly people.... #ASTURIAS #SUGENTE #SIEMPRE10 #PLAYASANLORENZO

Fantastic experience: This beach has a beautiful promenade, perfect for clearing your mind on days when you feel overwhelmed. Normally on Saturdays and Sundays, people take the opportunity to walk their dogs on the beach (Gijón is one of the cities with the most dogs in all of Spain)... I think they do it in summer too, but I'm not sure because it's a time when there are many tourists. I was pleasantly surprised by the water; in Galicia, the water is freezing, but here the water temperature doesn't leave you on the verge of hypothermia, even on cloudy days the water is decent for swimming (on a cloudy summer day I enjoyed a wonderful bath). It's a beach with perfect waves for practicing surfing. The only downside could be that in summer there are so many people that you don't have space even for swimming. Lifeguards are always attentive to bathers, and such attention is appreciated.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful and loooong. Moreover, no smoking and no dogs...
Negative experience: It could be a very beautiful beach... if it weren't for the loose dogs, sometimes dangerous, leaving feces all over the beach. I don't mind if they set up a dog beach, but is there any beach in Gijon where people can go without being constantly bothered by these loose dogs? What a plague.
Fantastic experience: Nice place. Lots of people. Many dogs with happy faces on the same beach. Go!!!
Fantastic experience: Nice city beach where the Piles River flows into. It has big waves and designated swimming areas. In winter it looks very nice, ideal for surfing and also for taking dogs if you have any. The sunsets and views from anywhere are beautiful. It also has a boardwalk (we call it the Muro), very long and perfect for nice walks and reaching other beaches or other areas of the city. In summer, the beach gets very crowded, especially after lunch. The ideal time is in the morning when it's easier to find a spot. Along the boardwalk, you can always find stalls selling clothes, accessories, ice cream parlors, and many bars and restaurants. For parking, there are several nearby parking lots and even spacious parking areas, like the area by the El Molinón football stadium. It is an accessible beach.

Positive experience: The water feels quite cold, and the sand near the shoreline is firm and compact due to the moisture. There are plenty of surfers out enjoying the waves, as well as several people paddleboarding nearby.
Fantastic experience: El Arenal de Xixón is emblematic, open all year round for everyone, and I believe that from November until spring pets are also allowed (the dates are not precise). It allows for a long walk on the sand or by the shore wetting your feet, sitting to watch the sea, or enjoying a tonifying bath, for the bravest, outside of the summer season. The cradle of four famous spas, sometimes you can see remnants of coal from a shipwreck in the eighties. Enjoy your walk!
Fantastic experience: Great beach right in the city. Very clean and well-maintained, with a variety of services and restaurants.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful and mesmerizing to see how the tide rises as the day goes by.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful beach, with fine sand and very large.

Fantastic experience: Great beach right in the city. Very clean and well-maintained, with a variety of services and restaurants.
Fantastic experience: If you want to spend an unforgettable day, you have to come to Gijón, swim in its beautiful beaches, eat and drink in restaurants and cider houses, and enjoy the best cuisine in Spain (fabada, pote asturiano, cachopo, escalopines, rice with crab, and a multitude of fish and seafood, and for meat lovers, there are plenty of grilled meats with incredible flavors). And for nightlife lovers, there is an amazing atmosphere. That's why once you come to swim at Gijón beach, see everything you can do.
Fantastic experience: The beach is a luxury, it's the crown jewel of Gijón! I adore it❤️. It's not Cancun, but it has a bit of everything. You can take your dog except in summer. Surfing is practiced all year round. Along the entire length there are hotels, restaurants, shops, and banks. At one end, you can find the old town and iconic religious and administrative buildings at the foot of Cimadevilla, which was the cradle of fishermen, where the city's best viewpoint is also located. Along the beach, there is a wide promenade with urban furniture, water fountains, a bike area and the street. Below, in one section, there is a public underground parking.

Positive experience: Good beach, with lifeguard service. Some days, with seaweed.
Positive experience: Good beach for surfing in winter and it has all the amenities. The lifeguards are an annoying issue for surfers as they are bothering all day with the jet skis and they get too close, becoming dangerous. There are also a lot of people in summer.
Fantastic experience: Wide beach, clean, good lifeguard service and information. It is central and in an impressive landscape.
Negative experience: Nice beach but it's full of very strict rules and imaginary lines that you can't cross, they control your every move. Supposedly it's for your safety, but what's unacceptable is that a lifeguard comes shouting at you because you're swimming two meters to the right of the imaginary line that separates two areas of the beach. Violent lifeguards who threaten you with physical violence if you don't swim exactly in the area they say. Another dark-skinned boy was shouted at with racist insults and told that if he didn't like the rules, he should go back to Africa 'with the monkeys.' I hope the city council of Gijón takes action against these lifeguards. One of them with a beard, five foot seven inches on August 23, 2023, at 4:30 PM.

Positive experience: Nice beach in front of the city. Monitor tide, as the beach can be covered almost entirely by water at times, while during low tide there is lots of space available. You can also rent surf boards In surf schools nearby.

Fantastic experience: The beach of my life, where the bathroom restrictions and the surf schools are increasingly limiting the swimming area, today only available for swimming in about 100 meters of a beach that is over a kilometer long, cramped together for swimming. It is what it is.
Fantastic experience: San Lorenzo is a beach with many areas for surfing and waves for everyone.

Fantastic experience: The beach is beautiful for walking during the day, at night, in winter and in summer. I had the opportunity to enjoy it in winter and the boardwalk is quite wide for going with family and friends.
Fantastic experience: Great beach with a wonderful promenade by the sea
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place, it is a must-visit if you go to Asturias, land of charm.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful☺️❤️
Fantastic experience: Very nice beach that allows you to walk with your dog (at least in winter). Pleasant views from the promenade.
Fantastic experience: It's a beautiful beach, one of the best in Asturias and Spain. It has stunning landscapes both during the day and at night, plus it is quite spacious (except when the tide is at its highest). Whether you live in Gijón or are just visiting, it's a place you must visit for sure. If you like the photos I shared, follow me on @shapethememories on Instagram.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful San Lorenzo Beach Gijon
Fantastic experience: Beautiful across and wide
Fantastic experience: A beautiful place to visit

Fantastic experience: Very beautiful beach. In addition, nearby there is an observation point where you can enjoy spectacular views.
Positive experience: Pretty
Fantastic experience: Spectacular beach, when the tide goes out you have a nice stroll. Marvelous Gijón.
Fantastic experience: Great beach right in the city. Very clean and well-maintained, with a variety of services and restaurants.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place
Fantastic experience: Incomparable place that I never get tired of visiting. A marvel
Fantastic experience: Beach with very fine golden sand. Wonderful day and night.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, nice walk along the beach
Fantastic experience: Nice walk with a beautiful beach. Pay attention to the tides as the beach changes completely. They announce the tide change over the loudspeaker.
Fantastic experience: Very good urban beach. It's better to go at low tide, because at high tide there is hardly any beach left.
Positive experience: Very clean
Positive experience: Too crowded and the water was quite cold.
Positive experience: Beautiful beach and very well maintained
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful and mesmerizing to see how the tide rises as the day goes by.
Fantastic experience: Excellent beach
Fantastic experience: Very lively, well signposted and spotlessly clean like all of Gijón.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful beach, with fine sand and very large.
Positive experience: It's a beach I love, but I was surprised this year by how crowded it gets in the afternoon... That made it lose a bit of its charm for me, as the crowding brings dirt, neglect, annoying music... Not everyone takes care of the beach.
Positive experience: Good beach, with lifeguard service. Some days, with seaweed.
Fantastic experience: Super wide beach with fine sand and a long promenade, very beautiful and located in the best area of Gijón. I completely recommend going NO MATTER WHAT.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach in a beautiful city. Clear and spacious shore, the cherry on top of this city full of contrasts. As always, curious is that tide that goes up and down which, although it prevents swimming at certain times of the day, surely keeps the surface free from uncivil behaviors.
Fantastic experience: Spectacular beach, clean, spacious, with a nice promenade for walking at night and during the day in the heart of Gijon, the best part is observing its tide changes
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, you have a great place to take a nice walk. It is a very busy beach. When it's low tide there is quite a bit of sand, and at high tide in the evening you are left without a beach. It is a very beautiful beach.
Fantastic experience: A very nice urban beach that, if you add the airplane exhibition, you really elevate the experience.
Fantastic experience: Excellent place to enjoy
Positive experience: Beautiful
Fantastic experience: I love it
Fantastic experience: Fantastic. Very clean, highly recommend.
Fantastic experience: I was 23 years old at the time, supporting the Algerian national team that beat Germany 2 to 1. I have wonderful memories of this beautiful city and a friend who was my first love. Her name is Emy Garcia Suarez. She lived on the boulevard of Saint Lorenzo beach. I'm sending her a little greeting. Thank you.
Fantastic experience: Magnificent landscape, beach, monument, and church that can be visited.
Fantastic experience: What we miss is the sun, I love swimming in San Lorenzo.
Fantastic experience: The best beach in Gijón, except when the tide comes in and the west section gets eroded.
Positive experience: Very beautiful
Fantastic experience: If you want to spend an unforgettable day, you have to come to Gijón, swim in its beautiful beaches, eat and drink in restaurants and cider houses, and enjoy the best cuisine in Spain (fabada, pote asturiano, cachopo, escalopines, rice with crab, and a multitude of fish and seafood, and for meat lovers, there are plenty of grilled meats with incredible flavors). Fantastic experience: Very beautiful. On some sunny days it might be a bit overcrowded, but it is gorgeous.
Fantastic experience: Very clean and beautiful, very good atmosphere
Positive experience: Wide urban beach with a great promenade. More services are needed to give it life: restaurants, street vendors...
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful and large beach.
Fantastic experience: A very beautiful beach, it has a ramp and several staircases, as well as a long path for walking. It has very good views and next to it is the Church of San Pedro.
Positive experience: An amazing day visiting Gijón, its beaches, Roman baths, and its cathedral
Fantastic experience: The beach of my life, where the bathroom restrictions and the surf schools are increasingly limiting the swimming area, today only available for swimming in about 100 meters of a beach that is over a kilometer long, cramped together for swimming. It is what it is.

Fantastic experience: Very beautiful and loooong. Moreover, no smoking and no dogs...
Positive experience: A always lively beach
Fantastic experience: Beautiful and picturesque place.
Fantastic experience: Air show
Fantastic experience: This is a clean and large beach with good sand...
Positive experience: Charming beach. I wish the water were cleaner.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach.. I love going there all the time
Fantastic experience: San Lorenzo Beach, in Xixón (Asturias). Urban beach, shell-shaped, in the center of Gijón, 1550 m long and 40-120 m wide, depending on the sea level. All services and more, access via stairs, from 0 at the Church of San Pedro to 16 at the mouth of the Piles River. Clean, fine, and golden sand. Seafront promenade of almost 3 km.
Fantastic experience: Impressive beach in Gijón, which along with the poniente beach are the ones you have in the city to take a swim. When the tide rises, there is no sand as it reaches the wall, it has a special charm and is the one that tourists like the most.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, very open. It doesn't matter if it's cloudy. Gijón is always welcoming.
Fantastic experience: One of the beaches in Gijón. We liked it a lot, very big and long, with a very wide and comfortable promenade for walking.
Fantastic experience: 5 stars and that's not up for debate :)
Fantastic experience: A wonderful stroll! Making healthy friends is easy at sunset.
Fantastic experience: We love it, there is a lot of beach when the tide is low
Fantastic experience: Very large beach with beautiful views, perfect for having a good time with your friends.
Fantastic experience: I love this beach at any time of year. It's spacious, clean, and there are always lifeguards. In the off-season, you can watch dogs playing with a ball.
Fantastic experience: Visit this beach in Gijon, it's very beautiful.
Fantastic experience: The beach and the promenade were spectacular, we went in April so it wasn't crowded.
Fantastic experience: A natural beach with a lot of charm. It is the most typical one in Gijón and the one that the most people visit. Be careful in summer because it gets very crowded, if you don't go early, you probably won't find a good spot (if you find one at all). The beach huts are definitely the most noteworthy and very picturesque!
Fantastic experience: Spectacular beach, very accessible, ideal for swimming and walks, the only negative point is that with high tide you can only access 30% of the beach.
Fantastic experience: Great, you saw it in bad weather but the rough sea is also very beautiful to watch.
Along the beach, there is a wide promenade with urban furniture, water fountains, a bike area and the street. Below, in one section, there is a public underground parking.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic beach in winter for walking with the dogs.
Fantastic experience: Iconic San Lorenzo beach. Beautiful view of this coastal city. I recommend visiting the Church of San Pedro and walking along the promenade. Central beach and close to the Las Letronas, statue of Pelayo...
Positive experience: If you are in the city, you will enjoy taking a swim so close or strolling, but if you are coming from elsewhere looking for a beach, go to a less crowded one.
Positive experience: Sometimes breakwaters, but always charismatic. There are many drawbacks: occasional sewage in the water, continuous coal in the sand due to the wreck of a ship decades ago, higher tides due to changes caused by the construction of the jetty, buildings casting shade over the beach, the sand needs regular replenishment, the promenade could be improved, railings lacking charm and with more layers of paint than the Eiffel Tower, but despite everything, it has great charm.
Fantastic experience: Very nice beach, spacious with beautiful views. You have a bit of everything around and easy parking nearby, well connected with the bus lines.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful
Fantastic experience: Beautiful wide and long beach, beautiful views
Fantastic experience: Nice place. Lots of people. Many dogs with happy faces on the same beach. Go!!!
Fantastic experience: My dear San Lorenzo beach, the beach of my childhood and adolescence, which I now enjoy in my adulthood with my children, another generation that strolls along its shore, builds sandcastles, and embraces the waves amid laughter and chilly sighs. Near the zero stairs stands the pre-Romanesque church of San Pedro, an eternal watcher of the sea, like a faithful companion but not always well-received. What may seem inconvenient to some, to me seems beautiful, to be able to feel the sea so close while its waves reach the beach's walls with their splendor and forcefulness, as if it were a challenge to keep us alert to the tides and the sea doesn’t have to expel us from its beach too soon. For night walkers who enjoy feeling the water on their feet while walking in the dim light, I warn you that when the sea is calm and there is low tide, small marine creatures clamber onto the buoys that float around the beach to observe from their little watchtower the hustle and lights of the city. I promise that if you stay still and remain silent for a moment, you will hear whispers and cautious giggles that fade away as if they were the halo of a distant boat.
Fantastic experience: Simply spectacular. The walkway is wide enough not to bump into anyone even with many people walking on it, completely signposted and clean, nothing like Riazor in La Coruña, you can tell you're not in Galicia.
Fantastic experience: The night is enchanting with many options for restaurants and strolls
Positive experience: Main beach of Gijon, there is also Poniente beach in the port area.
