Information

Located in Zumaia, Itzurun Beach is renowned for its stunning cliffs and unique geological features known as flysch. Visitors generally appreciate:

  • Breathtaking Views: The beach offers spectacular scenery, especially at low tide when the rock formations are most visible.
  • Family-Friendly Atmosphere: Many families enjoy a relaxing day at the beach, benefiting from facilities like showers and public restrooms.
  • Surfing Opportunities: The beach is a popular spot for surfers, with good waves to ride.
  • Accessible Options: There is a ramp available for those with mobility needs, making it easier to access the beach.
  • Proximity to Interesting Historical Sites: The area is historically rich, with a nearby hermitage and opportunities for hiking.

However, some users pointed out drawbacks:

  • Crowded During Peak Seasons: The beach can get quite busy, especially in summer.
  • Parking Issues: Limited parking options can make it difficult to find a spot, particularly for non-residents.
  • Service Quality: Some visitors noted unsatisfactory experiences at the beach restaurant.

Overall, Itzurun Beach is a must-visit destination, perfect for nature lovers, families, and those wanting to experience the beauty of the Basque coast.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, especially if you like G or T. Beautiful natural phenomenon. Free parking if a 15-minute walk is not too far.

Fantastic experience: This beach is amazing, the cliffs are hundreds of millions of years old, making it ideal for geological and historical studies. There are foot showers, a beach bar, and public restrooms. At the entrance to the beach, you will find a sign that informs you of the high tide and low tide times, as well as the time for sunrise and sunset, and it indicates the flag status. It's quite interesting because, as in all of the north, the tides are very changeable, and this beach uses flags planted in the sand to indicate how far the water will rise in an hour; when the water reaches them, they move them again. There is even a small cave between the cliffs that can only be accessed through a puddle formed by the tides. It's ideal for letting kids play without worries. Additionally, there is a ramp, which makes it easier for wheelchair users or baby strollers to access. Before you arrive, there are shops selling beach items like floats, boards, swimsuits, and sunscreen.

Fantastic experience: Spectacular contrast between mountain and sea. It is a beach completely open to the sea, which makes it beautiful but dangerous because of the undertow (the force of the wave as it returns). There are showers available, but one must be very careful with the tide if it is rising or falling and with the undertow. It is surrounded by mountains and the famous flysch. You can easily walk from the town up a slope from Amaia square. There is access to the upper part of the beach via a ramp for people with wheelchair needs. In summer, there is a lifeguard service and a beach bar.

Diana C. 5 years ago

Pedro Herrera 7 years ago

Silvia Cabanillas 7 years ago

Imprescindible visitar.

Negative experience: It's a disgusting beach. It's full of dog poop and cigarette butts. We tried to order something to drink at the cantina, they served us after an hour and kicked us out for not having a reservation when there was no one else. If you like bad views with the smell of fried food, this is your place.

Fantastic experience: An amazing beach where scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed. The downside is that when we went there was a red flag and we couldn't swim. The flysch in this place is impressive, but if you really want to enjoy the best views of the flysch, I recommend taking the boat that takes you along the coast to see it, along with interesting and educational explanations and curiosities. You can take the boat from the port of Zumaia. Don't hesitate to pay for this experience because it is well worth it.

Fantastic experience: Breathtaking! This is where Dragonstone was filmed in Game of Thrones. The natural beauty is impossible to describe here. It's free to visit this beach, and free parking is available on the nearby streets - although they are very narrow and convoluted. There are also lots of great hiking opportunities nearby - hilly, somewhat difficult and very muddy at this time (February). We saw surfers enjoying the powerful waves. I would come back here to hike, it's so wonderful.
