San José Beach
Information
Playa de San José is a charming beach located in a picturesque village, ideal for families and those looking to relax. Here are some of its highlights:
- Family-friendly: The shallow waters and fine sand make it perfect for children.
- Services available: The beach offers various amenities, including showers, toilets, and beach facilities.
- Accessibility: Good access points are available for individuals with disabilities.
- Water activities: Opportunities for snorkeling and canoe tours around nearby caves.
- Dining options: Numerous restaurants and cafés line the beach, providing easy access to meals and refreshments.
- Beautiful surroundings: The beach is set against a picturesque backdrop of white houses and mountains.
However, it can get quite crowded, especially during peak summer months, which might detract from the overall experience. Additionally, some users noted that while it is generally clean, the sand can be a bit bothersome when the wind blows. Despite the crowds, it remains a popular choice for a relaxing day by the sea.

Fantastic experience: Great beach for children, it has all the services: shower, changing rooms, bathrooms, shops, bars and restaurants on the promenade.
Fantastic experience: Very nice, there is a large parking lot nearby. It's small but in mid-August there was space. Showers, bathrooms, and a beach bar.
Fantastic experience: It is a charming beach, with a great variety of stalls of all kinds, offering a wide range of items. There are also plenty of restaurants of all types, so you have options to choose from for lunch, dinner, snacks, or whatever you feel like. Without a doubt, a lovable place I will return to at the slightest opportunity and to which I have already gone back several times.
Positive experience: Although it can be a bit crowded in August, the beach is clean with all services and restaurants right next to it. When we stayed in San José, we preferred to drive to other nearby beaches, but when we don't feel like driving or it's just for a short time, we love to walk down and then grab a drink on the way back in the local places.
Fantastic experience: One of the best beaches I have visited, smooth sand without any stones. The little ones can go quite far in, as it is very flat and barely covers for a great distance. The hammock service and restaurants are in line with the beach. We will return.

Fantastic experience: Family beach with crystal clear waters, easily accessible for the whole family, showers and lifeguard.
Fantastic experience: It's the ideal beach: fine, golden sand, clean water, and a gentle slope. It has shower facilities, toilets, lifeguards, assistance for the disabled.... In summary, it's perfect.
Fantastic experience: It's a beach with a small promenade but wide with plenty of space to lay down towels, it has all the necessary services (showers, bins, good access, lifeguards, kiosks for refreshments, water sports, and beach volleyball courts) and it's accessible for the disabled, a family beach with little waves and perfect for kids. After that, the beach extends to the left (south) for a couple of kilometers but narrows to the point of splitting into small coves when the tide rises. Fine sand and pleasant water.
Positive experience: It's a quite calm and beautiful beach, there are bars around the promenade, also fairs and importantly, attentive lifeguards and rescuers. You can also rent water bikes and kayaks...

Fantastic experience: Clean, beautiful, and with fine sand. The best part was snorkeling near the rocks and seeing hundreds of fish.
Fantastic experience: It is a beach that, even though it has a larger population than Monsul and Genoveses, is ideal for families who want to spend the day and do a little snorkeling.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful beach to go with children. It has snorkeling excursions that are done by boat and they give you a guided tour explaining a bit about the coves.

Fantastic experience: Magical and beautiful place. Ideal in spring and autumn. Impossible in summer due to overcrowding.
Fantastic experience: Good food and a wide beach to have a good time
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beaches
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place, a must-visit.
Positive experience: So much building work, very hard to find a way in. Nice beach, but everywhere was closed. I know it's winter, but it's a pity; it's well worth a visit.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful Recoleta beach and very suitable for swimming.
Fantastic experience: Piece of beach
Positive experience: Very peaceful, with crystal clear waters
Fantastic experience: Beach that has all the services, with fine sand and where you can swim even with strong easterly winds.
Positive experience: There are some stones at the bottom, be careful when entering.
Fantastic experience: Very peaceful to disconnect.... no rush and slowly because we are on vacation!!
Positive experience: Very well-maintained and accessible beach, although it feels small for the number of people.
Positive experience: A beach with fine sand and no slope
Positive experience: An oasis in the middle of a barren land. Probably too crowded. The dining options are not especially expensive, although the same cannot be said for the accommodation. It is more interesting for the area it is in than for itself. Good for a stroll and then leave.
Fantastic experience: Very nice beach, one of the best in the area. Suitable for children. The water is clear and the sand is fine. Boat service.
Fantastic experience: We were recommended to come to San José, and it is worth it. Charming village with white houses, beautiful beaches, and stunning views.
Positive experience: The village beach is nice and besides there are 3, impeccable.
Positive experience: A spectacular beach and place, but very, very overcrowded. What a shame.
Fantastic experience: A very quiet beach even though the sea is not good.
Positive experience: It's very nice although very crowded. You can park nearby.
Fantastic experience: The beach is very beautiful, some waves, the water is crystal clear and there are many fish.
Negative experience: The place is beautiful, but it is very crowded. I guess being August has an influence... but it has changed a lot, the atmosphere is no longer what it used to be... a lot of luxury.
Fantastic experience: Family beach with crystal clear waters, easily accessible for the whole family, showers and lifeguard.
Fantastic experience: Clean, beautiful, and with fine sand. The best part was snorkeling near the rocks and seeing hundreds of fish.
Fantastic experience: A very charming and picturesque little village, there is a lot of tourism and leisure, serving as our base (Camping Tau) to explore the best coves like Monsul, Genoveses, among others. The bar 'La Mandragora Perra Vieja' is very cozy, where you can enjoy some good barbecued ribs or pizza from their wood oven, burgers, or other well-crafted dishes. San José beach has very fine sand and can be a bit uncomfortable when it's windy. But the promenade and the village are very beautiful.
Fantastic experience: Very nice family beach in a beautiful setting surrounded by mountains, and the white houses in the background give it a special touch. The day we went, the water was calm and clear with a green flag. The beach was crowded but it was perfectly fine to be there; also, it had fine sand and there were no stones when entering the water, so you could go in without booties.
Fantastic experience: San José beach is an ideal place to relax. It is very quiet, with waters that barely cover, perfect for enjoying without worries. The water is warm, which makes swimming a very pleasant experience. In addition, you have the convenience of a nearby restaurant where you can eat or have a drink while enjoying the day. A perfect spot to unwind!
Fantastic experience: One of the most beautiful beaches in southern Spain!
Fantastic experience: The beach is very beautiful.
Positive experience: Super beach, many options to eat at lunchtime
Fantastic experience: Beautiful, but Almería also has beautiful beaches
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful beach in a magical place
Positive experience: Quiet beach, dark sand, breezy weather. Many local shops nearby. Warm water and decent sea.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful beach in a magnificent place at the foot of the mountain in a typical village. Nearby you have a plethora of nice small restaurants where you can enjoy paellas, barbecues, salads, pizzas, etc... don't hesitate to stop by... or at least to lay down your beach towels. I did. I left delighted.
Positive experience: Not a very big beach but well organized, showers, free foot showers, space with tents for disabled people, paddle boats for rent and other services clearly marked and delimited by yellow buoys. Clear water even near the shore! I liked it.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place ❤️
Fantastic experience: Clean beach, good atmosphere, good access. I loved it.
Fantastic experience: Amazing beach, the water is crystal clear, and it's not deep as soon as you enter, so it's ideal for families.
Fantastic experience: It's the ideal beach: fine, golden sand, clean water, and a gentle slope. It has shower facilities, toilets, lifeguards, assistance for the disabled.... In summary, it's perfect.
Positive experience: Beautiful beach and clean sea, but too many people
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach!! Ideal for children and elderly people because it doesn't get deep suddenly. Fine sand!!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach to enjoy, although sometimes a bit overcrowded with children and families with half the beach for them... there are other beaches in San José with less influx and they are also very beautiful. The good thing about this beach and all the ones in San José is its location, the San José port for renting boats and taking tours..., and many nearby hotels.
Fantastic experience: Family-friendly beach, clean, with access for disabled people, showers, restaurants, kayaks, and small local shops. Great!
Fantastic experience: It is a beach that, even though it has a larger population than Monsul and Genoveses, is ideal for families who want to spend the day and do a little snorkeling.
Positive experience: Beautiful semi-wild beach, but with a lot of stones and not comfortable for going with small children because it quickly gets deep.
Fantastic experience: A very beautiful and quiet village. A very family-friendly beach well equipped with bathrooms, showers, and foot showers...very close to bars, restaurants, and ice cream shops.
Fantastic experience: Fine sand, soft beach shoreline, easy access. Plenty of parking. Restaurants very close, allowing you to leave the umbrellas on the beach. Two pairs of showers and footbaths.
Fantastic experience: Great beaches, great people
Positive experience: Equipped beach of the village with access for disabled people and services.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful and very suitable for going with children
Fantastic experience: Beautiful. I go back every year. It's better to go during the week because it's not very big and it's full of people on weekends.
Negative experience: It gets quite crowded, not very deep which is ideal for families with children. It's not bad but I have beaches that I like more in the cape.
Positive experience: Nice beach in the village, you have nearby beach bars and places to have dinner. It is big enough not to be completely full all the time.
Fantastic experience: Magnificent beach. Very beautiful in a charming village.
Fantastic experience: I used to go when I was little with my family and I returned with my partner and it was very nice.
Fantastic experience: In August it's a bit crowded, but it's cozy and family-friendly and close to places to buy water and eat. And the sand is fine. A very good option for spending the day :)
Fantastic experience: Ideal beach for children, small and beautiful.
Positive experience: Perfect beach for family visits, very accessible, so during summer holidays it's very crowded but not overwhelming. Perfect water, clear and warm.
Fantastic experience: Family beach, with fine sand and very clean water. It has rock formations due to erosion that are worth seeing.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach and not very crowded. Accessible for people with disabilities, with chairs to enter the water and recommended for children.
Fantastic experience: For me, the best family beach in Almería. It may not be the most spectacular, but it is beautiful, accessible, with a very gradual entrance to the water, making it ideal for going with children. Generally speaking, at least the times I've been, the water is usually calm and clear.
Positive experience: The beach itself is nice and beautiful, it has parking available, and you don’t have to walk much, the promenade is great for having a drink, there are all kinds of dining options, but the day we went there were quite a few waves, they took a woman out of the beach unconscious.
Positive experience: Clean and beautiful sandy beach. Unfortunately, quite crowded at the moment (even throughout the day). Water is very clear and ideal for diving.
Fantastic experience: I will return as soon as I can, it is a marvel of nature. Very peaceful.
Positive experience: Very cool but a bit difficult to park and get down
Fantastic experience: Ideal for going with kids. Clear water and gradually increasing depth.
Fantastic experience: Quiet place, good beaches.
Fantastic experience: There was a lot of wind and whirlwinds, but the beach is great, it has every detail, a fountain, showers, changing rooms... and the water is spectacular, clean and well maintained.
Positive experience: It's beautiful, but there are too many people. Not far from there, there are other beaches that are less crowded and just as good.
Fantastic experience: Nice beach and beautiful scenery. Showers and services right on the beach. The promenade is lovely at night.
Fantastic experience: Very clean beach with a small promenade. Crystal clear water and a good temperature (not cold). Boat trips available and plenty of gastronomy for all budgets.
Fantastic experience: A small beach with super fine sand, easily accessible, doesn’t cover for adults and children. Parking is moderately easy if you arrive around 10 in the morning.
Positive experience: The beach is nice, but too crowded, like all beaches in summer. Be careful with umbrellas, as this area has quite a bit of wind, you need to secure it well or you risk hitting someone with it.
Fantastic experience: You can park on the street that leads to the beach in the white zone. Crystal clear water and it's not deep. Ideal for families with children. Showers and adapted access to the water.
Positive experience: Family-friendly beach that is very quiet, located within the town of San José. There are stalls along the promenade where you can buy typical beach items, and there are also places to eat and get ice cream. Parking is difficult during peak hours, but in the afternoon there are free spots available near the beach.
Fantastic experience: I loved it, not many people, the water was not warm, just right and very clear and clean. It has shower service. Very quiet and family-friendly.
Positive experience: I liked it very much, the only thing is that when it's windy, the sand gets lifted, which is very fine and bothersome, especially if it gets in your eyes. There are many bars and restaurants, and the port is nearby. I had a drink there, and they served generous portions. These places are close to each other, but the people are kind. There's also a nightclub, and cats come up to you. I enjoyed it.
Fantastic experience: Very clean and clear waters. Fine and almost golden sand. The only downside is that I arrived at 6:30 PM and had to pay €10 for the umbrella and sunbed, which they collect at 8 PM (of course, I had the option not to take it), but I think it's unfair that they charge the same for the whole day as for an hour and a half. However, the gentlemen in charge of them were very friendly.
Fantastic experience: Quiet and family-friendly beach without crowds
Fantastic experience: Spectacular!!!! Beautiful and calm beach, crystal clear waters, although there are a few seaweeds, on the right side there are very nice rock formations. Nearby is the town of San Jose with all its leisure and gastronomy offerings. Highly recommended
Fantastic experience: Fabulous beach in a small and charming village, a corner you must know and where you should get lost for at least a week, settle your stay here and explore the entire Gata/Níjar Natural Park
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, with showers, access for disabled people, and a very good atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: The beach is very nice, fine sand and crystal clear water.
Positive experience: Beautiful beach with loose sand, accessibility services are sometimes scarce, the restroom is very good, we were surprised that the lifeguard and beach surveillance station opened at 12:30 PM on a Saturday when the beach was full.
Positive experience: A wonderful beach in a spectacular and very beautiful village. Fine sand beach with little wave action. A small promenade with bars and restaurants. Difficult parking in the summer. During the day it is lovely, but at night walking is all magic.
Fantastic experience: Very nice and quietly located beach. You can walk quite far into the water. Sand is very fine. Enough space available for bathers. Facilities like showers etc. are new and clean.
Fantastic experience: Wide beach with fine sand. It's easy to park near the beach if you go early.
Positive experience: Not much open
Positive experience: Delicious sandy beach
Positive experience: definitely the best beach around Almería and at Capo de Gata
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, especially for families with children. Small quiet and relaxing village. Varied restaurants to meet everyone's tastes.
Fantastic experience: Small break after lunch on the sandy beach. The sea is very pleasant, more accessible than on the Roquetas side. There is a lot of wind, be careful to apply sunscreen, otherwise you might get burned.
Fantastic experience: We went for a spectacular mountain bike ride, it felt like we were biking inside a western movie, beautiful coves with an azure sea contrasting with the various colors of the rocks. I don't think we'll forget this place anytime soon. We arrived in a camper and parked in a gravel lot near the beach.
Positive experience: It's a beautiful beach, quiet and right next to the village.
