Formentor Beach

Negative experience: My advice, don't bother. It's a shambles. As I understand it, you can't drive up to the beach at Formentor between 10am and 10pm without getting a fine but you can escape a fine IF you get an official car park ticket but there's no guarantee that you can get a space after you've been through the ANPR cameras, to get the all important ticket. Of course you could get a bus but like all public transport in socialist countries they're currently on strike and we've waited for 3 full buses to try to get back to Pollensa, 30 mins between each bus. The beach is tiny, busy, shaded for the most part and just not worth the hassle of getting here.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach and surroundings. We used the ferry 20-minute journey to visit for a few hours. The sea was crystal clear, lots of fish to swim with.

Negative experience: Beautiful to look at but a v narrow beach with overpriced sunbeds and some of the coldest water on the island. Not great for sunbathing or snorkelling. Looks great on your instagram but not much else to recommend

Fantastic experience: Very beautiful beach, very Mediterranean, with its turquoise waters and pine trees, the ideal beach but you have to arrive early! Long beach but narrow in width, one part has sunshades and loungers, which reduces it.

Fantastic experience: Very nice beach, very well equipped, you have free parking available, a restaurant on site. The water is crystal clear.

Positive experience: We weren't lucky with the weather, it was overcast, so we didn't see the transparent color of the sea. Parking was about 4€.

Fantastic experience: Paradisiacal beach, worth a visit. Caribbean white sand, blue sea and truly relaxing scenery. The beach is surrounded by pine forests where you can get some shade and which reflect their colors in the water, the effect is beautiful. NB. There are only two parking spots and both are paid, costing €25 for the whole day, otherwise the rate is calculated by the minute at €0.85. Let's say this is the only downside, but it's worth visiting at least once! For dining, there are 2 restaurants on the beach, one with a more casual buffet and a more formal restaurant.

Positive experience: It deserves 5 stars, but there were some small fish that occasionally bit. Very good shade, you have free parking and another paid option. Showers and facilities.

Positive experience: Beach and place are top to visit absolutely during your stay in Majorca. However, do not get fooled by the paid parking along the beach, 2 minutes walking there is a completely free and quite large parking (the one right next to the shuttle that provides access to Cap Formentor).

Positive experience: Obviously it's a superb bay, obviously it's overcrowded... It's still worth doing with a stop at the highest point. The road leading to the pass is generally closed from 11 am because it's saturated. The buses, however, continue to go there.

Negative experience: The beach is very expensive, starting with parking at about 6 euros per hour, and let's not even talk about the price of sun loungers and food; it's a disgrace overall. I don't know who can pay these prices.

Fantastic experience: Beach with white sand, providing plenty of shade since it is surrounded by trees, which is excellent given the high temperatures. The water is crystal clear but a bit colder compared to other beaches on the island, but nothing that isn’t easily tolerable. The parking lot we used was free and we had the car there all day since we took the bus to go to the lighthouse.

Fantastic experience: A beautiful section of beach with crystal clear water. Even the way there is a little adventure and offers breathtaking views. The water is lovely, but unfortunately, the parking fees are quite expensive and can only be paid by card.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, more because of the place it is located than for the water (there are better beaches for that on the island). About the parking, this is the situation: the first parking you will see is free and it opens at 10am (not even 1 minute earlier). We arrived there at 9:15 and we were the second car in the queue. The parking is quite big and I think you can find a spot until 10:30am. If you don’t find a spot there, there are 2 parkings, where the fee is 8 cent for minute (4.80€ the hour, 25€ max the whole day). On the beach there are 1 bar and 2 restaurants, you can rent 2 sunbeds and beach umbrella for 35€. Most of the beach is in shade because of pine trees, which make it very peaceful and relaxing. Don’t park on the street as there you will be fined for 200€.

Positive experience: Nice cove, a transition between very developed and not developed at all coves: you can rent a sunshade and 2 beds for €28/day (no bargaining possible, regardless of when you arrive; for instance, we arrived in the afternoon and expected to pay for half a day, but the 'organizer' did not think so). Of course, you can also bring your own sunshade, as is the case in almost all places here in Mallorca (unlike many parts of the Italian coast). Parking was free in the nearby 'Formentor' large parking lot (which was surprising); you can easily reach the beach even in flip-flops from there. There is also a 'baywatch' service.

Fantastic experience: The road to access the beach is beautiful, the parking is large and free! We arrived at 11 am and there was still plenty of space! A bit crowded on the beaches with the regular boat arrivals! After 2 pm, the place becomes very pleasant! The water is beautiful, the beaches are shaded by trees! I recommend it!

Fantastic experience: Nice beach with plenty of space. There is a paid area, and a larger free area. There is a pavilion where you can get something to eat and drinks. It's not expensive. There is a pine forest on the beach, and you can lie under it.

Fantastic experience: The beach is one of the best. But let's go in order: There are a few paid parking lots. One right at the entrance and two further before the barrier on the road to the hotel. Parking is paid upon exit, as the charges are per minute, one minute costs 0.08 euro cents, but no more than 25 euros per day. There is a cafe. There are showers. They say the shore is narrow - this is indeed true, but see it as an advantage, as you will always be in the shade of the pines, and you can settle under them. Accordingly, the air has a pleasant aroma. If you want fewer people - then come either early in the morning or after 5 PM. The water is cooler than at other beaches.

Negative experience: Dreamingly beautiful beach, also very clean. But seriously: €5.10 per hour for parking?! I actually only stayed for a short time to take a few pictures; otherwise, one could go bankrupt. The counter only works with a card. I wouldn't recommend the beach, simply because it's way too expensive.

Fantastic experience: Impressive views of Pollensa Bay. To get there, you have to ascend to Es Colomer with its spectacular views. There is an area of the beach where the pine trees provide shade.

Fantastic experience: Cozy place, somewhat crowded with people, it is a white sand beach, they have restrooms, lifeguards, a restaurant, the only thing is that occasionally goats come down from the mountain and rummage through the people for something to eat, (they shouldn't be given anything..) other than that, it's great for a day at the beach.

Positive experience: The views are breathtaking, not a big beach but has shade from all the trees. The sand is not that great (lots of fallen stuff from the said trees) but it’s nice for a swim. Water not as hot as the other side of the island but still very nice to swim on. There was free parking which was amazing.

Fantastic experience: Wonderful beach. If you have already been to the lighthouse / have decided not to climb it, I highly recommend spending an hour or two at this beach. We arrived in the morning around 9:30, parking was free and many places available. We returned around 14:00, parking was full, so I recommend arriving earlier, not only for the parking - at that time there were about 20 people on the whole long beach, a complete feeling of unity with nature. The water is incredible, as it probably is everywhere on this island, the sand, beautiful views. A very nice beach with easy access, we recommend!

Positive experience: We had quite a bit of wind and couldn't enjoy it, but aside from that: The water is crystal clear like almost all the beaches in Mallorca. Maybe a bit more rocky than others, and the area of sand out of the water is a bit narrow.

Positive experience: The beach is very nice. What I find excessive is the parking fee for cars, which is the only one available. 6.50 euros an hour. We had to walk there. But well, the walk is not that long. It's very nice.

Fantastic experience: From the excursion to Cape Formentor, one of the visits was to its beaches. I was here with my young children years ago (good memories). From the beach, we can see great views and enjoy this almost paradisiacal area; in this case, taking the tourist bus avoids parking issues. If you go by car and park there, the prices are outrageous. Good feelings visiting this beach again at this time of year with low attendance; in summer, it's overwhelming.

Fantastic experience: The road is a bit dangerous, with people running which I find a bit absurd and a bunch of bicycles.

Positive experience: Nice and clean beach. We were there in the low season, so there was hardly anyone around. Unfortunately, there are no toilets nearby.

Negative experience: what is now the beach of Formentor.. just stones and not a single space..

Negative experience: Parking is really expensive. For 3 hours over 15 €.

Positive experience: The beach of the millionaires. It's not a big deal, there are a lot of people during the season. The fish in the water nibble on people's skin, sometimes biting them until they bleed! Boat services bring people to the shore. There is a lifeguard, and restrooms can be found. Showers, changing rooms, restaurant, and bar are available.

Fantastic experience: A preserved paradise coin. Fine sand beaches, magnificent waters.

Positive experience: Really a great beach!! The kids also loved it, wonderful water, the only downside is that parking is really expensive at 8 cents per minute, you can only pay by card!

Negative experience: Beautiful place, but a robbery of the public space in this country. They have restricted exclusive areas for sun loungers that charge €90 per day for a couple; you cannot go and set up your umbrella. They have security guards who will surely prevent any personal initiative. Similarly, the parking is a rip-off as it charges €25 per day. How can this be allowed in a country where the coast is public domain? They have taken it by assault and the authorities seem to condone it. Shameful.

Positive experience: Nice beach, but not as much as Soler. There are no big waves and aside from a thin gravel bed, it's very practical even with a child. Unfortunately, during the season, parking costs 20 EUR. It's also accessible by bus from Alcludia. The bay offers a picturesque landscape to the place.

Negative experience: Overhyped place... It’s beautiful but let’s not exaggerate... Sunbeds at €90 per day, parking at €25 not to mention the bar consumption... Prepare your wallet for a place that for me is not that magical.

Positive experience: Beautiful crystalline beach with clean water and sand, the only drawback is the presence of boats that dirty the sea and the excessive number of people at certain times, otherwise it's a beautiful beach.

Fantastic experience: Gorgeous beach with a small sandy area, I recommend going early. Parking near the beach costs €25/day or about €13 for 3 hours.

Negative experience: Unfortunately, we didn't even make it to this beach, as the road to it is closed to cars between June and September. There is exactly one bus line that drives up every twenty minutes, but it was overcrowded every time. We received information about this after an hour and a half of travel at the roadblock. Disappointing.

Positive experience: Really a beautiful beach with clear water, unfortunately like many other beaches it is very crowded. A spot can always be found due to its size. Sun loungers and umbrellas can be rented, and there are also showers and WCs on site. Parking is very expensive, you have to expect 3.60€ per hour here. Also, the bars/restaurants are, in my opinion, outrageously expensive (4€ for a popsicle, 12€ for the Aperol...).

Positive experience: I'm writing this review because I wish I had this information before making the decision to visit the Beach and Cape Formentor. We visited this area at the beginning of August. We left from Alcudia by car and arrived in Port Pollenca around 11 am, but the access road was closed. It closes after 10 in the morning or when it gets crowded up there. We went to Pollenca beach and occasionally saw many cars going up, so we tried again. The road was still closed, and this time we decided to wait. We waited for an hour and a half until traffic opened again. We arrived at the beach around 4 pm, and we had a hard time finding a parking space (6 cents/minute), only to find a very crowded beach and very dirty water. A huge disappointment... We left hoping to visit Cape Formentor, but we didn’t make it there because car access was forbidden and you could only go by local bus, which had just left. The best option in the season, especially if you don't arrive early in the morning, is to leave the car parked in Pollenca and take the local bus. It runs every 30-35 minutes and reaches all points of interest. I would have chosen this option if I had known, rather than wasting half a day waiting and not getting where I wanted.

Positive experience: Narrow beach, nothing special stands out. Leave your car in the parking lot next door (0.03€/min, max 20€) and take a one-stop bus ride to Cala Murta or Cala Figuera, it's a shame to waste time at Platja de Formentor.

Fantastic experience: Amazing views and great beach

Negative experience: It's not worth the overcrowded Mallorca in general.

Negative experience: It is not worth the journey for what you find afterwards. A road with many curves and dangerous. I recommend taking the bus up.

Fantastic experience: The whole experience of going to Puerto Pollensa, taking the bus, and breathing deeply in its endless curves is worth it. A different beach, secluded, and the best part is that it has a bar/restaurant.

Positive experience: We went with small children in the afternoon on 21/08, we took the line bus that drops you off at the parking lot which is a 3-minute walk from the beach. It is a beach surrounded by trees, there are rocks on the shore to enter the water, the water is clear but not turquoise if that’s what you’re looking for, there were no seaweeds, just a bit on the sand. To the left of the restaurant, there is another beach area called 'el espigó', it is smaller and sloped surrounded by trees. There is rental of umbrellas and sunbeds at a gold price, a gift shop, and a restaurant where you also pay a gold price. There are also restrooms and showers to rinse off the sand. You can drive to the parking lot, which is not very large. To climb to the lighthouse you have to take the bus.

Positive experience: Spectacular beach, a paradise. However, in August you need to arrive before 10 AM at the parking lot that costs €11. Starting from 11 AM, boats with tourists start arriving and it gets too crowded.

Fantastic experience: Great paid parking beach. The public parking is further away.

Positive experience: The beach is surrounded by mountains, you can find goats on the beach, it has parking and a restaurant, restrooms. It is a beach that has rocks at the entrance but further in there are none, it's very beautiful, the water is clear and without waves, the only thing I didn't like was that sometimes it has a bad smell.

Fantastic experience: Nice calm beach, good for snorkelling, there are showers.

Negative experience: Dont go there with the car. The Mallorcan gorvernment will scam you out of 80€, plus charges from your rental car company.

Positive experience: I went here with my partner with the intention of spending some time at the location. Firstly the rating does not really reflect the beach but the overall experience. In respect of the beach it is very nice but in no event any better than many other beaches in the Mediterranean. The issue is the sheer number of people arriving by all forms of travel. Bearing in mind this was the end of June the bus journey was very busy and ( if you are scared of heights ) a bit tortuous. On arrival a number of ferries pitched up at the small harbour area and substantial numbers of people de camped from the boat . I am not claiming to be anyone special and I mean no malice with these comments but what I am outlining is that for a family to go to this location might prove a logistical nightmare as it is getting very overcrowded. Majorca is beautiful with lovely people but I think serious consideration might need to be given to some sort of ticketing system here ( not based on price but perhaps on a first come firsts served basis ) as the area can not cope. I appreciate that this is all probably massively exacerbated by the fallout from Covid. The poor lady in the cafe looked heavily under pressure as well , with no help apparent and some serious queues. Obviously it is a desirable place to visit but the off season might prove more realistic. By all means go but set off early and be prepared.

Fantastic experience: The beach is the coolest on Mallorca. It is pretty narrow but sufficient for the kids to play and build sand stuff. Water is warm and shallow. Best part is that there are expensive sunbeds (€75 / €90) which reduces the number of people that want to be there and making the beach not that crowded. Also the beach is very neat and clean. If you arrive around 10 there are lots of parking spaces available and again, the parking is not cheap but it is very close to the beach. Definitely a place worth seeing especially if you don’t like crowds.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, with a feeling of being separated from the world. Water is crystal clear. You will find it just after the Molinar Mirrador. If you come by car, you can park in the parking and you have to pay. By motorbike, parking is free. Totally worth it

Fantastic experience: Wonderful beach with beautiful sand and some shade. Very good cafe and clean toilets and you can arrive by boat if you don't want to drive the exciting road and pay 6cents a minute to park, up to 20€ for the day. The beach is excellent and deepens gradually, great sand and water, perfect for all especially families. The beach is narrow but long so you can find a space if you keep going. Arrive before 11 in the summer to park and get a space easily. We'll worth the drive as the setting is spectacular.
