El Portitxol
Information
El Portitxol is a beautiful and tranquil small beach located in Costa Brava, known for its unique rock formations, including a picturesque arch. This cove attracts swimmers and families alike, thanks to its fine sand and crystal-clear waters. Visitors particularly enjoy the opportunity for snorkeling and the abundance of marine life. While the beach can get busy during peak hours, its natural charm and scenic surroundings provide an ideal setting for relaxation.
However, some guests have raised concerns about the beach shrinking over the years, leading to limited space. The paid parking nearby has also received mixed reviews, although it is convenient. Additionally, the rocky entry to the water can be uncomfortable, so beach shoes are recommended. Overall, El Portitxol is a hidden gem worth visiting, especially for those looking for a serene escape.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful place...paid parking.
Fantastic experience: Quiet beach, it's small but not overcrowded. A good place to go by car, there's plenty of parking close to the beach. You should bring water shoes because it has large stones and the water is clean, you can go snorkeling, there's no wave ideal for paddle surfing. There are some entries with a bit of sand in case you don't have water shoes (like us).
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful cove very accessible, once on site you can quickly move from one beach to another, paid parking but just next door, ideal for an afternoon with family.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful cove, very accessible. Once there, you can quickly move from one beach to another. Paid parking, but right next to it. Ideal for a family afternoon.
Positive experience: I can only agree. The beach 'El Portitxol' is also our opinion the most beautiful beach around L'Escala. We were very disappointed with Platja de Montgó, as it is completely overcrowded and offers hardly any space. The cove itself is beautiful, but the narrowness of the sunbeds completely negates this. We also found Platja de Riells to be not very attractive. Platja El Portitxol is (probably due to the rocky seabed) relatively less visited. The sunbathing area of the beach is completely covered with sand. The only downside is the paid parking, which costs €1.68/hour. Just for that, we deduct one star. The beach itself is great and our absolute favorite among the beaches around L'Escala.

Fantastic experience: Lovely beach,it was nice surprise that they have a designated area for people with dogs,me and my family enjoyed observing and had so much fun. There is a nice promenade walk and a little beach bar. It’s quite cozy and felt less crowded then more-central beaches.Loved it !
Fantastic experience: Visit in early February 25, our retriever was allowed to play and swim on the sandy beach, which was a lot of fun for the dog, his favorite hobby. Waves came quite far up the beach, which limited the usable beach area. The sand sinks quite a bit when walking. Overall very nice, the 5-star rating specifically refers only to February and 'dog enjoyment' - in summer there is a dog ban, but there is reportedly a dog beach a few meters further.

Fantastic experience: Roman Ruins, Mediterranean pines forest, crystalline water, white sand, peace and harmony. Just watch out for the odd rocks while at sea.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach. When you enter the water, you encounter some stones but just a small area. The first week of September was very quiet (it started to get crowded around 12pm, and we left).

Fantastic experience: One of my 'beach favorites' around L'Escala. Great beach (with shady spots), parking (by the ruins), beach bar (see my other review), rocks and great water. Snorkeling is fun there. But be careful; the rocks are partly underwater. You can get hurt there. Right by the ruins (see my other review). I always like to come back there!!!
Fantastic experience: An arch with sea running through it. Very close to beach, beach bars and a hotel
Positive experience: Cala el Portixol. Fine sand cove, quite clean and peaceful. Let's get to the point: There are no lifeguards or beach bars. It does have sunbed and umbrella service. It has very curious rock formations. Barely any boats in the area. It is located right in front of a spa and the ruins of the city of Empúries. It's not much compared to other coves in the area, but it does have crystal clear waters for SUP and snorkeling.
Fantastic experience: Visited multiple times during both the week and the weekend. Lovely beach. Quite natural. Compelling rock features all over the place. Some portions of the beach are so rocky that it hurts the feet a bit to go into the water, while other parts are all sand and much more comfortable. There’s a section with tree shade in the afternoon. There’s a snack bar/beach bar for drinks and simple eats. Overall we really enjoyed our visits.

Fantastic experience: This is a beautiful nice beach. Ideally after the visit of the Greek and Roman archaeological place nearby. It is just walking distance across the street. We enjoyed some great hours in October.

Fantastic experience: A very beautiful little beach and generally quite peaceful. Since you can't get there directly by car and you have to arrive by walking or cycling, it makes for fewer people. A great place to enjoy nature and the sea of the Costa Brava.
Fantastic experience: Beach and promenade next to the hotel and very close to the ruins of Ampurias. Worthseeing landscape.

Fantastic experience: Very saddened because every year I come, the beach gets smaller and smaller. Therefore, it is bound to disappear.
