Calzada Beach
Information
Playa de la Calzada is a beautiful beach located at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, offering stunning views of the Doñana National Park and the ongoing horse races during the summer months. The sunsets here are described as some of the most spectacular in the world, making it a perfect spot for evening strolls.
Despite its many charms, visitors have pointed out several areas for improvement:
- Cleanliness: Many users reported finding a considerable amount of litter, including cigarette butts and food wrappers left by other beachgoers.
- Safety Concerns: The presence of sharp rocks and shells necessitates wearing proper footwear to prevent injuries when entering the water.
- Silt and Shallow Waters: Some comments noted that the beach feels more like a riverbank due to a muddy bottom, especially during low tide.
Nevertheless, Playa de la Calzada remains a popular destination for families, particularly for those with young children due to its calm waters and lack of waves. Visitors can also enjoy amenities like lifeguards and dining options close to the shoreline.

Agua sucia y caliente. Muchas piedras. No volveré❌

Positive experience: We are in front of a beautiful beach at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River that, despite its wonderful views, has two drawbacks in my opinion: 1. Sharp rocks, so it is a "must" to enter with flip-flops or sandals. 2. A lot of mud, making it look more like a river beach than a sea beach.

Positive experience: A beach in the area of the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, right in front of the Coto de Doñana. Many boats, all in the area. It has watchtowers and multiple beach bars. It is the beach where the famous horse races take place during the month of August.
Fantastic experience: ¡¡GENIAL!!

Fantastic experience: I recommend wearing footwear to enter the sea if you go in the morning, the tide is low and you step on shells and everything with your feet since you have to walk quite a bit to get into the water. In the afternoon, the tide comes in and it's perfect besides being long and wide. Ideal with children because there aren't many waves...
Positive experience: I spend my summers in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and obviously, this is the beach I visit the most. The other day, I went for a walk of about 6 kilometers and was able to fill two plastic bags to the brim with trash that I found on the beach. The most frustrating thing is that all this trash is here, and people don't care. In fact, when I was picking up the trash, people looked at me with disgust, as if I were crazy. Putting that aside, the beach is very nice, with shallow water, few people, and no waves, highly recommended for pleasant walks.

Calzada Beach: Reviews
Fantastic experience: My beach. Where I have spent my summers since I was a child. I love it.
Fantastic experience: A spectacular beach where, finally, 8 days ago I could go to enjoy the famous horse races on the beach when the tide is low, a beauty at sunset. Betting €1 at the kids' booths and having my horse win is priceless... Maybe it's beginner's luck. Without a doubt, every time I go to Sanlúcar de Barrameda, I am surprised!!!
Negative experience: One of the dirtiest beaches in the area. Families leave the beach, leaving behind the straw from their juice, the caps from their beers, I myself have pricked myself on the toothpick from some olives, and what can I say about the number of cigarette butts... it's a shame. The only thing that saves it are the sunsets; I have never seen them so spectacular anywhere else. I wish the people who visit were more civilized and took their trash with them because you can really see things that are astonishing... It's a pity to come enjoy the beach and end up picking up other people's garbage, which the Town Hall also seems not to notice... last year there were a lot of awareness posters for nothing.

Positive experience: It's very good

Fantastic experience: An excellent beach with very fine sand and all the services.
Positive experience: No waves, shallow and with treacherous sharp stones. It's not bad for kids.

Positive experience: In my opinion, I have been to better beaches in Cádiz. This beach has its charm as it is located at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and has nice views of the Doñana Park and the boats that pass through that area. Something important to keep in mind is that for swimming I recommend using water shoes or some type of footwear, as when I was there, I got a wound on my heel because I cut myself on the thousands of shells that are in that area.
Positive experience: Perfect area for walking and watching the sunset
Fantastic experience: Amazing beach in size, and the horse races with Doñana in the background and the sunset is a magical spectacle. Totally recommended.
Negative experience: Very dirty beach with mud, I didn't swim due to the bad smell.

Positive experience: Authentic beach of Sanlúcar, where horse races take place. It is the shore of the Guadalquivir at its mouth, opposite Doñana Park.
