Tabarca Beach
Information
Platja de Tabarca is a unique location that combines natural beauty with historical significance. While many visitors appreciate the island's charm, there are mixed opinions regarding the beach experience. Here are some highlights and concerns:
- Positives: The beach features crystal-clear water, making it ideal for swimming and snorkeling. Some users enjoyed the small coves and the chance to see various fish. Additionally, the island has a rich history and unique architecture that many found captivating.
- Negatives: Unfortunately, the beach is often crowded and has insufficient cleanliness, with reports of dirt and trash left behind. The shore is primarily made up of stones rather than sand, which can be uncomfortable. Many also mentioned that the service at nearby restaurants was lacking, often overpriced and not catering well to tourists.
- Overall, visiting Platja de Tabarca can be a rewarding experience, especially for snorkeling enthusiasts, but be prepared for a potentially busy atmosphere and some hygiene issues.

Fantastic experience: Black sand beach and crystal clear waters, loved this place.
Fantastic experience: Extraordinary beach, we loved diving and swimming with the fish, it was really idyllic. The only downside was the pebbles because we are more of a sand team. But I highly recommend it!!
Fantastic experience: It's the largest beach on the island, its waters are a turquoise blue and crystal clear! There is no seaweed and you can see the fish in it! It's very beautiful! There are rocks on the shore, however, once you enter, it's all sand! There are many dining options nearby! Highly recommended!!!
Negative experience: I was disappointed with the island, the beach is overcrowded and has no sand, it is made of dirt. The other beaches are made of stone.
Fantastic experience: They are small beaches but with crystal clear waters, it's a pleasure to bathe there. Although the shore is rocky, a few meters in you have the sand. Experiencing a swim at Tabarca beach is worth it.

Positive experience: Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado Arenisca Conglomerado SOLO ESO EN TODA LA ISLAAAAA. aún asi esta chula. Ponerse crema solar. Mucha.
Negative experience: The beach is terribly overcrowded, dirty and unfortunately also smelly. There is a church, a prison and a lighthouse on the island, but they are not maintained. There are countless restaurants and bars where you can only sit down for a drink, unless you are eating something. Based on our experience, we would rather skip them. We do not recommend it to those who want cleanliness and peace.
Positive experience: A beautiful pebble beach well dirty with a lot of stressed fish that look really good with goggles. The underwater vision trip is really cool, just like some menu from a restaurant. And what can I say about the village, beautiful, but the visitors leave everything a mess and the cleaning services must be overwhelmed. Watch out for the shops, genuine bazaar pirates capable of getting your gold tooth for a sunscreen. Take an umbrella, a cooler with cold drinks, snorkel, and water shoes. And above all sunscreen, DON'T FORGET THE SUNSCREEN!!! it's 20 bucks for a cream that costs 5. And the cold drinks in the shops 2.5. WATCH OUT!!!
Positive experience: Visit this tiny little island out of season, but do not visit it from July to early September. It will ruin your experience of it. During peak summer It is too overcrowded, and I strongly suggest lunch either before you go, or after you return. The restaurants are not very good and they are expensive. They just want you in and out quickly and really don't care about customer experience or quality. I wish I had read the reviews about the restaurants before I went. We tried two places both dreadful and then we spoke to people on the way back who all had the same experience in various establishments. The boat ride over can be fun, we left from Santa pola.. so it took about 25 minutes Nd cost us 10€ which was the nicest part of the day to be honest. I recommend going for one of the small taxi type boats as these are less crowded and nicer to be on than the large glass bottom ones. You are not allowed in the glass bottom gallery until you are nearly at the island and it can be a crowded non event.. the windows are very low on the sides so you have to sit on the floor to experience any of it, plus when they do stop to let you go into the glass bottom gallery it's in water near Tabarca harbour, so it has nothing to look at anyway. It is just rocks. Please don't expect the barrier reef teeming with life and vibrancy. The island itself has some beautiful little coves and some lovely places for photos. And it's great for snorkelling as it's very rocky with lots of little pools to explore. There is a little street that has a few little gift shops and cafes away from the main restaurant area by the beach to wonder through between the harbour and the other end of the island where you can buy drinks and ice creams etc.. now let's talk about the beach.. we didn't go on it because there was already too many people trying to squeeze onto it. The island is very small which is part of its charm, but there is not a great deal to explore if I'm being honest. The biggest down side to me was the overpriced poor quality places to eat. It had that 'well you're here now so you have no choice but to eat what we give you' feeling about it. It's a real shame because it does just feel like a tourist trap when you're there. If you need snorkelling gear take it with you. If you need food and drinks take them with you. I'd love to support the local economy on the island but I don't like being held to ransom just because there is nothing else. It's more of a "few hours experience" than a full day out. But please follow advice about staying away from it during peak summer months. We went in August and Ive never seen so many people crammed into one place. But we will go back in October to experience it again because it's worth the visit just for the photos and snorkeling, and the boat ride over which can be fun. I wanted this review to be an honest one based on the time of the year we went. So I really suggest going as I'm sure you will love the experience. Just follow my advice, avoid the mistakes I made and have a great time there.

Fantastic experience: Please DO visit this tiny little island when you're visiting the Alicante area, it's so beautiful there, great for swimming and snorkeling, or just lying all day on the beach.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful rocky island. Clear water where you can easily see fish swimming. Nice residents and service staff. Prices for coffee and food are normal. I recommend it for a day trip with your family.
Positive experience: Beautiful little island not far from Alicante, easy to reach by direct ferries, clear water, the village of the island is nice and very characteristic. Absolutely worth a visit.
Fantastic experience: Black sand beach and crystal clear waters, loved this place.

Fantastic experience: I loved the island itself. The beach was very comfortable, there weren't many people (low season), it's pebbly so you need to wear water shoes to walk comfortably. Other than that, the water is crystal clear, there's no smell of fish or dirt, everything is very clean, there are restrooms and they are also clean. The only downside is the seagulls... If they like something you have, they might take it from you; if they like the food, they come closer to snatch it away. But it's fun (if they don’t peck you). Very good experience, would do it again.

Positive experience: A charming island to visit just once. The beaches on the island are quite mediocre, and there are fewer fish than expected, even though we dove in different parts of the island. A nice cathedral with a sundial in the center of the settlement, which, according to Wikipedia, is home to only 59 people.
Fantastic experience: A charming place full of history
Positive experience: Beautiful little island not far from Alicante, easy to reach by direct ferries, clear water, the village of the island is nice and very characteristic. Absolutely worth a visit.

Fantastic experience: Extraordinary beach, we loved diving and swimming with the fish, it was really idyllic. The only downside was the pebbles because we are more of a sand team. But I highly recommend it!!

Negative experience: It's a terrible beach with too many rocks in it to be comfortable. Also when it gets overcrowded. The water is lovely to get into but the snorkeling may be a disappointment.
Negative experience: If we talk about Tabarca Beach, I probably won't go back. We were there in August, it's true, but it was very crowded, with no space for umbrellas. If you want to rent a sunbed and umbrella, they are 20 cm apart. This specific area is made of stone. And when we were there, it was dirty with seaweed. Very poorly maintained.
Negative experience: Honestly, one of the worst beaches I've been to, rocks all around, dirty.
Fantastic experience: Incredible coves, I will return.
Fantastic experience: Incredible coves, I will return.
Positive experience: I give it 3 stars because I had high expectations after watching various influencer videos. The boat trip from Alicante was also pleasant, except for the return due to choppy seas, but that is no one's fault. What I found disappointing was the beach, with sunbeds 10 cm away from each other, all crowded, old and dirty for the modest price of €25 with an umbrella. The beach was a mess, dirty with all kinds of garbage lying around for who knows how long. The sea, however, was nice and the water clear, with no seaweed. My comment is subjective because it depends on the day you go, not every day is the same and it's pointless to complain about seaweed that is not due to beach management.
Negative experience: I was disappointed with the island, the beach is overcrowded and has no sand, it is made of dirt. The other beaches are made of stone.
Fantastic experience: Visiting Tabarca is visiting a piece of Mediterranean history. It has a very interesting little hotel and some apartments for rent. It is worth staying overnight, something very few people do.
Fantastic experience: They are small beaches but with crystal clear waters, it's a pleasure to bathe there. Although the shore is rocky, a few meters in you have the sand. Experiencing a swim at Tabarca beach is worth it.
Negative experience: The worst beach I have experienced in Santa Pola and Alicante. ❗There is no sand on the beach. ❗It is very difficult to fix the parasol to the beach. ❗It is very very crowded. ❗The beach is dirty. ✅ But the sailing between Santa Pola and Tabarco was excellent. I definitely do not recommend it!
Positive experience: The truth is that the place is very beautiful but it's full of tourists, at this time it's impossible to be there.
Fantastic experience: I just loved this place
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place. Beautiful views.
Fantastic experience: I recommend. While in Alicante, a mandatory trip to the charming island with diverse beaches, which are indeed filled with a huge number of tourists during the season.
Fantastic experience: Great place. Incredible island with stunning views and a history that they told us. I love it.
Positive experience: It is the largest beach on the island with some sandy areas, there are plenty of places to eat nearby and various services. I had been there before and didn't have much faith in it, however I returned and the experience was wonderful, crystal clear waters and good weather, and it was not overcrowded at all (weekday). Recommendation to wear beach shoes, outside there are quite a few stones but in the water it is all sand.
Fantastic experience: beautiful beach and place. nice people and wonderful atmosphere. worth visiting
Negative experience: The beach has a lot of seaweed and rocks. You can come to visit and eat, but it's impossible to swim calmly.
Negative experience: I don't recommend it... the beach is more dirt than sand, people are crammed everywhere competing to see who can play their speaker the loudest, and there is dirt everywhere you look. There are tons of seaweed on the shore, you come out of the sea with seaweed in places you wouldn't imagine... the town itself is not ugly, but it's the only thing there and you can walk through it in 30 minutes. It's not worth spending a day there... that explains why people are queuing half an hour before the first return ferry leaves. There are much nicer towns on the Alicante coast that offer much more.
Negative experience: The worst beach I’ve ever been to. I really do not recommend it. The beach was really dirty, so was the water and there were seagulls attacking people and stealing food in an aggressive way. Overall the island is overrated and I do not recommend the trip at all.
Positive experience: The company that manages the sunbeds does not allow payment by card or Bizum. Two sunbeds and an umbrella are €25 and if you don't have cash, they send you to a shop owned by a man inside the Island so he can help you exchange card/cash. The poor man says he is tired of always being sent people because they don't want to declare the money from the business. On the t-shirts of the 'hamaqueros,' it says 'El Carabassi,' which I suppose is the company that runs it. Furthermore, to make matters worse, they do not allow you to share the sunbeds with two other people. These businesses that earn everything in cash and do not declare it should be regulated because it is shameful.
Negative experience: It's hard to imagine a more shabby and worse place in all of Spain. An environment that could be wonderful filled with super noisy people. The sunbeds cost 25 euros for a pair and there's not enough space between them for a foot. A visit in a lifetime is more than enough to see one of the worst beach spots I've seen in my life.
Positive experience: The largest beach on the Island of Tabarca. It divides the island in two, on one side the village and on the other the natural area where the lighthouse, a small tower, and the island's cemetery are located. It is the beach with the most facilities. The beach is entirely made of stones, except for some sandy areas and the water is very clean. It is advisable to wear flip-flops.
Fantastic experience: The most beautiful and peaceful beach on the island. A must-visit.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful island, stunning seabeds! It feels like another world, perfect for exploring on foot.
Fantastic experience: Awesome place.
Positive experience: I don't understand the phenomenon of such high ratings for this beach. Nothing special, plus it's a rocky beach.
Fantastic experience: One of the most spectacular beaches on the island of Tabarca from where you can see a good part of the surroundings.
Positive experience: It is worth strolling through its streets and the rest of the island in December enjoying the tranquility and peace.
Fantastic experience: Don't forget your bathing gear, beautiful little coves where you can snorkel very well. There isn't much to do on the island anyway, so it's quite convenient to go swimming there.
Positive experience: Probably the best beach on the island. Unfortunately, the other beaches are rocky and covered with seaweed, while this one is completely sandy starting from the shore. The sand is very light, which makes the sea water crystal clear. You can see many fish, including large ones. The daily cost for a beach umbrella and 2 sunbeds is 24 euros.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach
Fantastic experience: A peaceful and calm environment. With crystal clear water
Fantastic experience: The water was very clear, pebbly beach, the day was perfect to go, not many people and good for choosing a spot
Fantastic experience: It's a very beautiful place, few shady spots and a lot of people, even though we went on a Tuesday, the kids had a great time.
Fantastic experience: Delicious beach. Although there are stones on the shore, once you enter the sea there are none and you can bathe without difficulty.
Fantastic experience: Tabarca is the only inhabited island in the Comunitat Valenciana and is located off the city of Alicante, eleven nautical miles away and near Cape Santa Pola. In reality, more than an island, it is a small archipelago, composed, in addition to Tabarca, of the islets La Cantera, La Galera, and La Nao. It has an approximate length of 1,800 meters and a maximum width of about 400 meters.
Positive experience: Visit this tiny little island out of season, but do not visit it from July to early September. It will ruin your experience of it. During peak summer It is too overcrowded, and I strongly suggest lunch either before you go, or after you return. The restaurants are not very good and they are expensive. Positive experience: Overall I enjoyed the small island, perfect to spend half a day, visit the few streets, eat at a local restaurant and spend a couple hours on the beach. The beach is nice except it had lots of algues while I visited.
Positive experience: Difficult to walk on stones. Very nice place. Don't forget to take with you snorkeling mask. There is no showers - no water in.
Positive experience: The only real designated beach area, with the most space and the only beach with sand. Cristal clear and shallow water. Free of charge. Bed+umbrella for 2 was 20eur. Separate only 7eur for bed only. Toilet close by, also free and clean
Fantastic experience: Nice place outside the season. Not many people
Fantastic experience: Beautiful small island, well worth a visit..go early, as it can get busy
Fantastic experience: Lovely beaches and water
Fantastic experience: Been many times it's beautiful I first went 30 odd years ago when there was just one bar now its got everything. The water is clear and the fish are beautiful. Always take some bread to feed the fish while standing in the water and they swim all around your feet. A beau island.
Fantastic experience: Awesome beach very quite. Nothing to complain.... would love stay on the island for few days
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with fresh and not so cold water (september/october 2019). Many sparrows visited us here, we had seen many fish species just by swimming around.
Positive experience: It's not the most sexy of beaches, very stoney, but it's still great for a chill out after a good meal and a walk round the island
