Algarrobico Beach
Information
Playa del Algarrobico is a beautiful and tranquil beach located in the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata-Níjar, known for its stunning natural environment. This beach offers a unique experience with:
- Clear and clean waters that are perfect for swimming and snorkeling, although it is recommended to wear water shoes due to the rocky areas.
- Spacious and secluded ambiance, providing an intimate setting, especially in the less crowded months.
- A rugged charm with its combination of fine and rocky sand, attracting visitors in search of a more 'wild' beach experience.
- Pleasant surroundings that allow for peaceful strolls while enjoying the picturesque views.
However, some users expressed concerns about:
- The presence of an abandoned hotel, which many believe detracts from the beach's natural beauty and should be demolished.
- The lack of facilities, such as restrooms and food vendors, which may be inconvenient for some visitors.
- Access being a bit challenging, although generally manageable.
Overall, Playa del Algarrobico is a magical place that, when free from the shadow of its unfinished hotel, could regain its stunning natural allure.

Positive experience: Simple basic beach with nothing special about it. Many stones and not a great deal of sand. Untidy with rubbish in places that must have washed down from the rambla behind. Very popular with fishermen and walkers. The huge unfinished hotel is something to see and wonder why someone decided to build it here. Access would have been restricted by the narrow road and beyond the precipitous coast road from Mojacar making it difficult to get to for the prospective tourists. I think it's worth visiting for a walk but I wouldn't want to spend a day on the beach here.
Fantastic experience: Spectacular discovery. Easy access
Positive experience: The beach is not the one with the best access or nearby resources, however it has a spectacular area for overnight stays if you're with a caravan. It's a quiet and very beautiful place at night since you can see the sea, moon, and stars perfectly.
Positive experience: I really liked this beach, clear water, not too busy, free parking but no toilets. One for the naturists too, so the abandoned hotel and it's cranes won't be the only junk you'll see.
Negative experience: No lifeguard, bad access, people from the slums having lunch with the whole fat family... Great place if you like a burlesque and freakshow beach. Not coming back

Positive experience: ideal with dogs
Fantastic experience: We had such a good time here. Not full at all during peak season. Easy parking and dogs allowed.

Fantastic experience: Good beach, fine sand. Few people. A few meters away there is a huge abandoned hotel.
Positive experience: Quiet place with fine dark sand. Pleasant.
Positive experience: Sandy beach in front of the eyesore of Algarrobo. Easy access to and from the water. Calm and with little fish for snorkeling.
Fantastic experience: Long beach at the foot of Cabo de Gata Park. Combination of stones and sand, although the former are more abundant, which makes its waters crystal clear. At one point, forming part of the hillside, we can see the monument to the Pelotazo Nacional, which was meant to be an imposing hotel and is now just a concrete mass with three eternal cranes that detract greatly from the area.

Positive experience: Typical beach where the people closest to you are a kilometer away. So comfortable. There is no lifeguard. It is a beach where you can find naked people. For swimming, I recommend wearing shoes in the rocky areas, especially when entering or exiting the water because you can hurt yourself on the stones. Typical and beautiful desert landscape of Almería.
Negative experience: No lifeguard, bad access, people from the slums having lunch with the whole fat family... Great place if you like a burlesque and freakshow beach. Not coming back

Positive experience: It's a bit far. The water was divine at the small cove, there were just 2 of us, it was great.
Fantastic experience: Long and narrow beach far from towns and therefore with clean waters full of fish. There is only the unfinished eyesore in the background and a few houses. There are parking spaces here and there, I personally prefer the walk from Carboneras (4km) which is on a wide and comfortable dirt road alongside the main road, frequented by runners and athletes. Beach for everyone, small coves for those who want full sun, less crystal-clear waters than others in the area but still clean, we were lucky enough to see dolphins jumping out of the water in the distance.
Positive experience: Sandy beach in front of the eyesore of Algarrobo. Easy access to and from the water. Calm and with little fish for snorkeling.
Fantastic experience: Virgin beach, very clean and large

Positive experience: Sandy beach in front of the eyesore of Algarrobo. Easy access to and from the water. Calm and with little fish for snorkeling.

Positive experience: ideal with dogs
Positive experience: Beautiful beach ideal for NATURISM. Convenient for campers.
Positive experience: For me, a great beach for swimming and bathing. Very quiet and only a few people. Only difficult to reach by car. No restrooms and no food, just an unfinished hotel on the mountain that was built without permission in the protected area until it was officially closed. Recommended for swimming and bathing.
Positive experience: Not a very big beach that is quite calm and not crowded. It doesn't have services (bar, restrooms, etc.) probably due to the somewhat ghostly presence of the abandoned hotel.
Negative experience: They should tear down that hotel because, seriously.
Fantastic experience: Very good
Positive experience: It's a bit far. The water was divine at the small cove, there were just 2 of us, it was great.
Fantastic experience: It's worth it
Positive experience: There is an abandoned hotel next door.
Fantastic experience: Wild beach but with charm
Fantastic experience: Good beach, fine sand. Few people. A few meters away there is a huge abandoned hotel.
Negative experience: The beach is fine, the hotel is an eyesore that needs to be torn down already.
Positive experience: A beautiful place with a creepy illegal work
Positive experience: Quiet place with fine dark sand. Pleasant.
Positive experience: Nice to have seen it for a moment. It's scandalous how it has come to this. I'm glad it's being demolished and returned to nature.
Fantastic experience: Magnificent
Fantastic experience: Paradise
Negative experience: A bit of a neglected beach, very long and famous for the hotel that was halted due to environmentalist protests. And there it continues...
Positive experience: We stayed here for one night. The beach is very rocky. We slept well here.
Fantastic experience: Wild nature like the abandoned hotel.
Fantastic experience: Spectacular discovery. Easy access
Fantastic experience: An unbeatable full moon hike with the Carboneros hiking club!
Fantastic experience: Lovely and very quiet beach
Positive experience: Very long beach, been in September and there were only a couple of people there… there is an old hotel otherwise calm beach
Positive experience: Sandy beach in front of the eyesore of Algarrobo. Easy access to and from the water. Calm and with little fish for snorkeling.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful and one of the largest beaches in the area. Hopefully, one day the unfinished hotel that spoils the area can be demolished, and the beach can recover all its natural beauty.
Positive experience: The beach is not the one with the best access or nearby resources, however it has a spectacular area for overnight stays if you're with a caravan. It's a quiet and very beautiful place at night since you can see the sea, moon, and stars perfectly.

For swimming, I recommend wearing shoes in the rocky areas, especially when entering or exiting the water because you can hurt yourself on the stones. Typical and beautiful desert landscape of Almería.
Positive experience: Large stony beach like almost all the ones in Almería. A short distance from Carboneras. Great for being with your pet.
Positive experience: Appatrently the location was used to film the Aqaba scene of the movie Lawrence of Arabia
Positive experience: I really liked this beach, clear water, not too busy, free parking but no toilets. One for the naturists too, so the abandoned hotel and it's cranes won't be the only junk you'll see.
Fantastic experience: A wonderful beach spoiled by a hotel that should have never been there
Negative experience: Shame about that hotel. What a blot on the landscape. When is it going to be demolished. Wild flowers delightful.
Fantastic experience: Love it. Love the desert here. California of Europe.
Negative experience: No lifeguard, bad access, people from the slums having lunch with the whole fat family... Great place if you like a burlesque and freakshow beach. Not coming back
Positive experience: Great beach and views, not much else there.
Fantastic experience: We loved this beach. Although there's nothing here, it's quiet and peaceful. Swimming was good and the water beautifully clear. Naturist sunbathing and swimming is also accepted here.
Positive experience: Very nice beach. The ghost of the closed hotel soars over the beach though
