Fantastic experience: Amazing beach. I hiked from here to Deba. Flysch are sedimentary rock formations of alternating layers of limestone and shale. The layers were formed horizontally but tectonic forces have tilted them over millions of years. The flysch are invaluable to geologists as they provide detailed records of Earth's history. The formations are found mostly in Europe but the ones in the Basque Country are distinguished by their exceptional preservation and accessibility. The name 'flysch' originates from the German word 'fließen,' meaning 'to flow', which was the process by which these layers were deposited through ancient underwater landslides and sediment flows.

Fantastic experience: Watch out for the restricted traffic zone. You can park comfortably 200 meters from the beach. After 8 PM, parking is free.

Fantastic experience: A spectacular beach, with beautiful access from the village, the place is impressive, not only for enjoying the sea, but also for observing the rock formations or Flysch, formed over thousands of years by sea erosion. It's advisable to walk from the village because parking is difficult in the area. Famous for filming some scenes of Game of Thrones and for important geological studies.

Negative experience: Parking in that village is a struggle. And the locals are quite rude.

The proximity to the center of Zumaia allows you to combine the visit with a stroll in the picturesque village, further enriching the experience. Itzurun Beach is a true paradise for nature and geology lovers, a place that offers beauty and tranquility in equal measure. A must-visit for anyone traveling to the Basque coast!

Fantastic experience: Una playa muy hermosa de ver por las formaciones de las piedras. El oleaje aprieta, te diviertes pero hay que tener mucho cuidado. Había cuatro socorristas vigilando y la playa limitada a la parte del centro con bandera amarilla. Mucha gente joven, muchos niños, familias y alguno que otro cambiándose en pelotas...

Fantastic experience: This is one of my favorite beaches in Gipuzkoa. Parking is pretty easy, park around Amaia Plaza, pay at one of the machines, then walk a few blocks straight to the beach. There are bathrooms and a small restaurant. The beach is smaller than others but the sand is soft and there are plenty of people to watch as well as beautiful views to enjoy.

Fantastic experience: Einfach nur cool. Juli 2022 war das Wasser extrem warm und mit tollen Wellen zum Baden. Salat beim Strandrestaurant einwandfrei!

Positive experience: Playa con formaciones rocosas no muy comunes. Está bien para pasar un día. El agua es oscura y es de arena amarilla. Tiene un restaurante que está medio ok. Tienes que aparcar en el pueblo y luego caminar para llegar a la playa.

Fantastic experience: Puesta de sol mágica, tanto con pleamar como en bajamar. La extensión de arena hace cómodo y seguro el baño. El chiringuito, tanto para tomar tapas, comer o cenar ofrece un mirador espectacular. Hay que pasear en bajamar por la rasa mareal, los flisch, las cuevas... No se acaba nunca, aunque no tengas tabla de surf.

Fantastic experience: Espectacular playa con unas vistas impresionantes. Servicio de socorristas (4 para una playa relativamente pequeña). Lo único malo es que hay que aparcar un poco lejos y como máximo se pueden poner 6h de OTA por 8,50€

Positive experience: Luego de caminar unos 15 min, desde la parada donde te deja el bus que viene de Getaria, pasando por una plaza y un camino angosto, se llega a un mirador de esta hermosa playa. Se respira ambiente de surf, y su principal atractivo son los Flysch, formaciones geológicas que se evidencian al bajar la marea. Mirando al mar, y a la izquierda, se aprecian maravillosos acantilados de piedra caliza, que contrastan perfecta y artísticamente con el verde de los campos que lo preceden, donde se encuentra también la ermita de San Telmo. Antes de bajar a la playa, se puede sobre como se originó este increíble lugar.

Fantastic experience: An amazing beach with unique geological formations that lets you see the individual layers of the adjacent cliffs. Not crowded at all when I visited in late March. A few surfers and some people with doggos. Fantastic views and landscapes.

Fantastic experience: An absolute lovely sight with all the cliff area. I only found out after that it is a Game of Thrones sight. It‘s an attraction for everyone and not just GoT fans. Hang out a little, watch the surfers and breathe in the ocean breeze...

Fantastic experience: Es uno de los escenarios de la séptima temporada de Juego de Tronos. La playa de Itzurun forma parte de uno de los tramos más espectaculares del litoral guipuzcoano. Sus enormes acantilados verticales, paredes de piedra caliza que alcanzan hasta 150 metros de caída, llamarán especialmente la atención del visitante. Se trata de un fenómeno geológico denominado flysch formado durante miles de años por la erosión del mar. Encajada entre estos bellos acantilados, la playa de Itzurun, de fina arena dorada, se encuentra muy cerca del casco urbano de Zumaia. Cuenta con 270 metros de longitud y fuerte oleaje, por lo que es un lugar propicio para practicar diversos deportes acuáticos, como el surf, el piragüismo o el bodyboard. Posee olas derechas e izquierdas que varían en función de las mareas, la zona oeste de la playa de San Telmo requiere de un nivel más avanzado por tener fondos de arena y roca. Aquí, en marea alta, existe una orillera que crea rebotes contra el acantilado formando excelentes rampas para los bodyboarders. A pie de playa hay un bar donde ofrecen comidas en época estival y, a escasos metros, un Centro de Talasoterapia con impresionantes vistas.
