Estremera Beach
Information
The Playa de Estremera offers a unique experience for those looking to spend a day outdoors, especially pet owners, as it's one of the few places in the Madrid area where dogs are allowed to swim. Visitors have noted that the environment has a lot of potential but currently suffers from neglect and cleanliness issues. Many users have reported:
- Positive aspects include the proximity of parking and the opportunity to be in nature, where pets can enjoy themselves freely.
- However, the beach area is small, with limited access to the water, and many have mentioned that it is often very dirty, with litter scattered throughout.
- Shade is scarce, making it uncomfortable during hot days.
- Some have expressed concerns regarding safety, such as the presence of wild animals and theft issues from vehicles parked nearby.
- There is a chiringuito (beach bar) on-site, but it often remains closed, which detracts from the overall experience.
In conclusion, if you’re considering a trip to Playa de Estremera, be prepared for a somewhat mixed experience and consider bringing everything you might need for a comfortable day by the river.

Negative experience: I didn't like it at all, too many people, areas with little shade, the river water not very good, and on top of that, the cars were stolen 'it seems to be common', and to top it off the beach bar: you order a coffee and they serve it from a 2L plastic bottle, if you ask for a slushie for the kid they make it with crushed ice and lemon Fanta, at expensive prices, not to mention the cleanliness of the place. I don't think I'll return, when there are places a thousand times better in Madrid. A roundabout disappointment.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful place to go with dogs. They are allowed off-leash as long as they behave well. The reviews saying that they need to be on a leash must not be from this summer. The kiosk is great, they have very tasty things, some music... The dogs love it and they give them water and treats... There are quite a few shady spots and trees, but it's better to bring an umbrella just in case. There are benches, the water is nice, cool and flows well. It's great for spending the day, but please let’s be civilized and not leave trash, plastics, etc. Because if the beach bar doesn’t clean it up throughout the area including the parking lot, in the end, they will close it.
Negative experience: The place is nothing special. A stretch of river, where accessing the water is more or less possible (avoid it if you have limited mobility), you have to share the swimming area with dogs (they can be there, although their owners forget they need to be on a leash). The parking is nearby and that's about it. The beach bar was closed when we arrived, so I can't comment on that.
Negative experience: The place is nothing out of this world. A stretch of river, where swimming is more or less accessible (avoid it if you have limited mobility), you have to coexist with dogs while swimming (they can do it, although the owners forget they need to be on a leash). The parking is nearby and not much else. The beach bar was closed when we arrived, so I can't give an opinion.
Negative experience: It is an area with great tourist potential, but it is super abandoned, with a lot of weeds, there are no shaded areas, a beach bar that could be greatly improved, more restrooms, and improving access to the bathing area. Set up machines for dispensing coffee, drinks, snacks, etc. This would attract many more people. Also, the issue of allowing dogs to swim is uncomfortable and I believe it is unhealthy, especially if there are little ones. Please consider defining another swimming area for dogs; I have nothing against them, I love animals, but it is not good for the little ones from a health perspective.

Negative experience: A great place to sunbathe and for our beloved pets to enjoy crazily. There is a beach bar to cool off when you get too hot.
Fantastic experience: The only river beach in the Community of Madrid where dogs can swim! If there are a lot of people, it's hard to find shade, but it's a really cool place and they have cleaned it up, it's nice. After the recent thefts, the Civil Guard comes by every hour to keep watch, making it safe now.

Positive experience: The place is very cool, but you have to keep in mind that it is nature in its pure state. There are trees, so there is some shade. It's advisable to wear water shoes both outside and inside the water because the riverbed is rocky. There is a current in the water; at the entrance, you don't notice it much, but you have to watch out for children and pets because as soon as they get in a little, the current can carry them away; if you stay alert, it is very fun to let yourself be carried away by it (always with caution!). The water is murky; it's not where you step, but there's nothing in the water that touches you when you are swimming. The 'entrance' is abrupt. There are steps created in the mud by people going up and down, some roots that serve as steps... So, for people with reduced mobility, access to the water is quite poor. For example, for someone in a wheelchair, independent bathing is nearly unthinkable. For us, who love nature, we honestly liked it a lot, keeping in mind that they had to push me from behind to get out of the water hahaha.
Fantastic experience: How nice! Today, the 1st, workers have come to pick up all the litter that was lying on the ground and have taken water samples, and it's perfect for swimming. We are having a super good day with our doggos! The only place in Madrid where it is allowed to swim with your dogs.
Negative experience: Terrible place. I came from Madrid because of an article in El Confidencial that praised it. It's all dry, full of thorny plants, there's no space for anything because you'll be crowded, it's a neglected place, not suitable for coming with kids. The recommendation from El Confidencial is regrettable. A mistake of a place, I should say the drylands of Estremera, which has nothing to do with a beach; the river runs through it, but there's no sand, no entrance, no beach. A fiasco.
Negative experience: It's a 'beach' because the person who named the place wanted to look cool, but it is basically a piece of riverside about 8 meters long with an impossible access for children and some adults, about 50/60 cm high (I think, because you can't see it) of mud and reeds, full of people from different neighborhoods of the world with their respective community soundtracks, crowded like Chinese water parks, and with the murky gray water that reminded me of the Ganges. It has quite a few tables and benches almost glued to them, made of stone and cement ideal for skinning your legs and uncomfortable, on a wide steppe full of straw. It also has a closed beach bar and a path of weeds that passes by the 'beach' where the communal toilet is located, ideal for observers of others' intimacy, because people are not shy and you see things you neither should nor want to see. The 'positive' aspect? Parking about 50 meters from the hub. Bins and buckets are full. A playground worn out by the sun. There's security because, when I visited, a couple of Civil Guard officers came by to take a look (not surprising), and as they left, some elements pulled out their hands loaded with illicit items from under the towel to continue their beautiful work of street origami, in front of their kids and others'. Recommended if you want to catch a nice illness of any kind.
Negative experience: River area somewhat scarce, those who go there thinking of large banks of fine sand... are mistaken. Parking area and picnic table type, with a lack of shade since they have just done a reforestation of the riverbank. There is also a beach bar which I cannot evaluate as it was closed when I visited.

Positive experience: As it was a weekday and out of season, there was nobody, and the beach bar was closed. The place has tables and benches for eating.
Fantastic experience: 100% recommended!! There's a beach bar run by a new guy who is: a sweetheart and has many special little things. Like the house red wine in summer and the salchipapas. It's going to be open all year round!!! It's just a few meters from the river, so it's a great plan!
Negative experience: A very abandoned area where weeds grow all the way up and if your dog has long hair that is a drama... There are not many shaded areas where you can put a towel, and the parking is in very bad condition. It may be that the space is more or less suitable for large dogs but definitely not for small ones. It's not easy to find an area where they can enter or wet their paws, so you'll need to be inside if you want to give them a dip and ensure their safety.
Negative experience: It is essential to go with an umbrella or you'll literally cook. There are few shaded areas in the bathing zone and none outside of it. If you arrive early and find a tree with shade, you will have to move throughout the day depending on the Sun, which sometimes makes you close to other people. The place is basically a desert. There are tables for eating, but without shade, it's a suicide to use them. The area is very neglected and dirty. There are remnants of bags and cans all over the area. The river has some current and there should be a lifeguard, honestly. One child's carelessness could lead to a tragedy. Dogs are allowed as long as they are on a leash, but many people ignore this. There's little space for a lot of people. There is a beach bar with limited options: soft drinks, chips, and little else.
Negative experience: Terrible experience we had. The place was okay... sort of, but they broke the window of our car and stole my husband's wallet with documents and money... we weren't the only ones; there were 5 more cars, a girl had her laptop stolen... on 07/13/24 they also stole in the same place and 20 minutes later at another nearby beach. The civil guard did nothing; they came, took our details and took a picture of the window and license plate. No report or anything. If you can avoid that beach, it would be better and safer for you. At least put up a sign that thefts occur... people who were there told me it always happens.

Negative experience: Horrible, I would not repeat it. Don't waste your time going here, there are better places. The water is very murky, like it's dirty. Everything is dirty, the picnic area is overgrown and barely maintained, and there's very little shoreline space to swim. It looks like an abandoned place, don't go.
Positive experience: The water is murky but you can swim. It's good for a while. It has a bar.
Positive experience: You can spend a pleasant day. As long as the users are cleaner. We complain about the dirt. But the waste didn't originate there; it comes from all the users who go. I don't understand why humans are so careless when there are bins everywhere.
Fantastic experience: Wonderful place to go with dogs. They are allowed off-leash as long as they behave well. The reviews saying that they need to be on a leash must not be from this summer.

Estremera Beach: Reviews

Positive experience: As it was a weekday and out of season, there was nobody, and the beach bar was closed. The place has tables and benches for eating.
Negative experience: I don't know because I haven't been yet. I would have liked to go but I saw an ad that says swimming is prohibited and if I go and it's true, it's a waste of time.
Fantastic experience: 100% recommended!! There's a beach bar run by a new guy who is: a sweetheart and has many special little things. Like the house red wine in summer and the salchipapas. It's going to be open all year round!!! It's just a few meters from the river, so it's a great plan!
Positive experience: The water is murky but you can swim. It's good for a while. It has a bar.
Fantastic experience: A nice and quiet place, I recommend it.
Fantastic experience: I found the place well-maintained and cared for, protected above all.
Positive experience: I won't come back, I was disappointed when I arrived, stayed for a while and then left.
Fantastic experience: Good place to spend a different day with your dog children

Please consider defining another swimming area for dogs; I have nothing against them, I love animals, but it is not good for the little ones from a health perspective.
Positive experience: The towel on the ground with weeds, dry. Water not very clean. Small place.
Negative experience: Dirty, abandoned, small, the entrance to the water is very bad, even the dog couldn't get out by itself, the beach bar closed, a disaster, we will not return, I don't know why they advertise it so much, it's a garbage dump, I was very disappointed.
Negative experience: We will never return. In fact, they should report anyone who calls it a 'little beach'.
Negative experience: A great place to sunbathe and for our beloved pets to enjoy crazily. There is a beach bar to cool off when you get too hot.
Negative experience: One of the worst places I have been in my life. The photos available online do not correspond to this place. Trash is everywhere, accumulated for days, and there is no space to bathe with only 2 or 3 areas of shade for all the people present. Thankfully, we brought umbrellas because the trees are glaringly absent... The picnic area has tables without any shade, and the small beach bar nearby, I don't even know how to qualify it. I went to the bathroom and have seen horror movies with less realism than this, so eating or drinking something there is definitely a gamble. It is undoubtedly the dirtiest, least cared-for place I have ever visited of this type. The town hall of this locality should be ashamed just for the trash in this place.
Negative experience: Yuck! We lasted 15 minutes, which seems like a lot to me. The bathing area is minimal, with no shade... the picnic area seems to be abandoned. Everything is full of trash, with the bins overflowing and litter on the ground. We went on a weekday and there was literally no one there, and I don’t blame them... As a funny story, we saw a water snake! from the shore... the best part by far.
Negative experience: Estremera Beach: wanting and not being able to. I don't want to post pictures to avoid making things worse, but the advice is: don't go! The first thing that greets you after parking in terrible conditions is piles of trash around 1 or 2 bins. The picnic tables are in full sun, the entry to the water is through mud at about 30 cm, good luck not slipping and breaking your head. In short, total abandonment, we planned to stay all day and after 30 minutes we had enough.
Negative experience: It is totally abandoned and you can't swim. Not recommended.
Negative experience: Important drought, very disrespectful groups of people, with the music blasting and no consideration for the natural environment.
Positive experience: The place is very cool, but you have to keep in mind that it is nature in its pure state. There are trees, so there is some shade. It's advisable to wear water shoes both outside and inside the water because the riverbed is rocky. For example, for someone in a wheelchair, independent bathing is nearly unthinkable. For us, who love nature, we honestly liked it a lot, keeping in mind that they had to push me from behind to get out of the water hahaha.
Negative experience: THE GOOD: The area with beach bar. THE BAD: Very dirty with garbage all over the area, overflowing trash bins, very little shade.
Negative experience: HORRIBLE! WE HAVE BEEN ROBBED!
Negative experience: Horrible!!! We had two cars stolen!! Be careful!! If you read this, don't go and you will avoid a bad experience.
Fantastic experience: What a nice day, so refreshing, they finally cleaned everything, the civil guard was watching all the time due to the robberies that happened two weekends ago, so it's nice to come to the beach, and I'm very comfortable with my dogs.
Fantastic experience: How nice! Today, the 1st, workers have come to pick up all the litter that was lying on the ground and have taken water samples, and it's perfect for swimming. We are having a super good day with our doggos! The only place in Madrid where it is allowed to swim with your dogs.
Negative experience: I can't give less than that, but it was HORRIBLE there is no SHADE very DIFFICULT access and the GUARDIA CIVIL came because 6 CARS were STOLEN, one of those was OURS and another had its CARD STOLEN.
Fantastic experience: I just arrived at the beach with my dog, everything is clean, there are environmental signs checking the water quality, the place is really spectacular, with or without a dog, with a beach bar, everything is great, I recommend it.
Positive experience: The place is nice and peaceful, the rating would be 5 stars if it weren't for a certain person around who dedicates themselves to breaking car windows in the parking lot to steal, or just to annoy as in my case where they only took a small bag with rolling tobacco... Having a motorcycle helmet and other things in the car...
Negative experience: Yesterday, July 28th, we went to visit this river, it is a nice place but we will not return because IT IS NOT SAFE, 3 cars were stolen, their windows were broken, and it seems that this has happened on several occasions, there are reviews about those thefts. It's sad because you can swim in the river and have a good afternoon, but with thieves around, no one feels at ease.
Negative experience: Very poorly maintained, overflowing containers, trash on the ground, the beach bar's bathrooms are filthy. The beach is very small, we went on a Thursday and coincided with a school trip, three buses, bad luck, impossible to get in. Partly it is the fault of the people who are very dirty, but anyway, it's not a very beautiful place...
Negative experience: The place is dirty and quite full of garbage, and the icing on the cake, according to the civil guard, it has become routine for cars to be stolen. I was lucky that nothing happened to mine, but I won't be back and I don't recommend it to anyone. 9 cars were stolen in one afternoon on Sunday. I understand that the beach bar staff don't warn, because they are surely friends of theirs or from the area.
Negative experience: It's a shame; it's a desert. They have cut down all the trees, it is full of garbage and abandoned, there is no access to water. It's a pity and a disappointment. I don't give it zero stars because there is no option.
Fantastic experience: I had a fantastic day. The water was super clean, it's great that the cleaning crew finally came by. My dog and I had a great time. The kiosk was very nice, everything was great.
Negative experience: Bad experience. We went at the end of July and the place was especially dirty: trash thrown everywhere, excrement with their respective smells, and papers, loose dogs. The only redeeming factor is the beach bar... It's a shame to see that a natural space with so much potential is not being cared for.
Negative experience: The area is very abandoned, there is trash everywhere. Most of the trees have been cut down, so there is very little shade. It is covered in dry brush, posing a fire hazard. It is not a beach as such, since the entry into the water is not easy. In front, there is a gravel pit with machines working that make quite a noise. I was there yesterday, and half of the people who arrived following the directions of this article, like me, turned around and left. I trust that the City Council will take measures and fix it.
Negative experience: Everything is very poorly cared for, shade for 20 people while the others are among plants over 1 meter tall.
Negative experience: animals and public all together
Negative experience: Terrible... only one star because otherwise I can't post.
Negative experience: I don't know about you. But I'm not getting in there, not even crazily.
Negative experience: Speechless to describe so much mmmmm. A place that used to be very nice, today is a junkyard. Let's not even talk about the water mmmmm.
Negative experience: WARNING! THEFTS! Something happens every weekend. This time they broke into 10 cars and took documents, wallets, mobile phones, computers. One of them was mine.
Negative experience: They have cut down all the trees that were in the parking lot and the area with tables, it’s like a holocaust. The small stairs that were there to access the river have disappeared, so now there’s a drop of almost a meter to the water, but underneath there’s almost another 40 cm. It’s crazy; it’s very easy to fall and get hurt when entering or leaving.
Negative experience: The appearance is very neglected. Weeds instead of grass. No shade. Dogs in the river among people. Water was not clear. We traveled 60km to get there and left.
Fantastic experience: This place is wonderful, a quite relaxing spot, ideal for spending time with family especially with children. Oliver's service is very good, he is very kind. Recommended place.
Negative experience: A shame. From the parking lot, everything is full of garbage and glass. The place is completely abandoned. The trash hasn't been picked up in at least a month. The bar (which has hardly anything) is completely dirty. Better not to enter the restrooms. Access to the river is extremely complicated. Don't look for shade because there isn't any. It's a pity that such a beautiful place is treated this way, especially with people who don't take care of anything. Hunger combines with the desire to eat. That said; a shame.
Fantastic experience: A good place to fish, cool off, and relax. Bring a towel, as there are some plants on the ground, and be careful of the sun. Dogs have a great time here, and even though it's a little-known place, that's for the best.
Negative experience: Beach? Where?
Negative experience: Terrible place. I came from Madrid because of an article in El Confidencial that praised it. It's all dry, full of thorny plants, there's no space for anything because you'll be crowded, it's a neglected place, not suitable for coming with kids. The recommendation from El Confidencial is regrettable. A mistake of a place, I should say the drylands of Estremera, which has nothing to do with a beach; the river runs through it, but there's no sand, no entrance, no beach. A fiasco.
Negative experience: There are a lot of poorly trained dog owners there.
Negative experience: Very disappointed. We went today and had to turn back upon arrival. Very neglected, dirty, smelly and somewhat stagnant water.
Fantastic experience: Nice spot by the river, refreshing! Quiet place to swim on the edge, strong current in the middle but cool when you walk 200-400m upstream and then come back with the current… nice kiosk with cold beer
Positive experience: A bit overcrowded for the size
Positive experience: Good for spending the day, pet-friendly. The downside is the current if you go away from the shore.
Positive experience: Don't trust the current, my mother is from a village in the area and knows of countless cases of people drowning; just two days ago someone drowned. Keep in mind that it has more current than it seems, and also the bottom is full of seaweed and you can get tangled up. Just to give you an example, I saved a friend's life whose legs got tangled in the seaweed on the bottom; I was able to pull him out because he was only two meters from the shore. This incident happened a few kilometers before Aranjuez, which is identical to Estremera. My advice is to take a dip if you want, but always with caution and without being overconfident.
Negative experience: Could be a very nice place but it’s filled with garbage all over. Very disappointing!
