Güigüí Beach
Information
Playa de Güigüí is a stunning and remote beach located in Gran Canaria, famous for its fine black sand and beautiful scenery. Accessing this pristine paradise requires either a challenging hike or a boat ride, making it a special treat for those willing to put in the effort.
Highlights:
- Beautiful, unspoiled beach with crystal clear waters.
- Serene and less crowded, perfect for relaxation.
- Breathtaking views of the surrounding nature and the Teide on clear days.
Considerations:
- The hike to the beach is strenuous, with steep inclines and rocky terrain, requiring good physical fitness and appropriate gear.
- Expect to take 2 to 2.5 hours to reach the beach, with the return trip often taking longer.
- Pack plenty of water and snacks, as the route has limited shade and there are no services until you reach the beach.
- Watch out for the return journey, as it can be grueling, especially under the sun.
- There is a small hut near the beach where you can refill your water bottles.
In summary, while Playa de Güigüí may require a bit of a journey to reach, the breathtaking views and the tranquil experience are well worth the effort for nature lovers and adventure seekers.

Fantastic experience: The beach is brutal, I didn't find the way to be that challenging; it took me just over an hour for the outbound journey and a bit longer for the return since it was already dark. So feel free to do it again.
Fantastic experience: 2 hours to go and 2 hours return to this magnificent black sand beach. Not very crowded with an even more isolated part accessible at low tide. It is possible to camp.
Fantastic experience: Great beach. Surrounded by high cliffs. The way there is already strenuous but passes through a beautiful mountain landscape.
Fantastic experience: the road is tough but worth it to see this paradise
Fantastic experience: Parking? Yes, there is one. Hiking trail? Also available. Beach? Unfortunately, we never saw it, as Güi Güi relentlessly brought us to our knees. Even the warning at the start should be taken seriously: 'Difficult hike ahead!' – we thought it was just to deter sandal enthusiasts. Spoiler: It was not. Sturdy shoes, provisions, and sunscreen are a must, as the 1000 meters of elevation gain over the mountain ridge is no Sunday stroll. Those who make it are said to be rewarded with a dream beach. Us? We turned around and said goodbye from the parking lot – at least with an adventure, but without sand between our toes. Conclusion: First, inform yourself, then go. Or directly look for the beach elsewhere! Still, 5 stars for being super adventurous and a fantastic natural spectacle.

Fantastic experience: 2 hours to go and 2 hours return to this magnificent black sand beach. Not very crowded with an even more isolated part accessible at low tide. It is possible to camp.
Fantastic experience: MAGNIFICENT! The way there is still long (2h), and watch out for slips on the descent (lots of rocks) but the beach is really very beautiful (black sand, clear water) with very few people. The view is very nice throughout the hike (cacti, mountains, cliffs…). For your information, the round trip takes 4 hours (1 hour up and 1 hour down on the way there and back).
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with black sand and very clean water! The walk to get there is quite demanding, about 9km, but with a high level of incline and in some places with unstable ground (rolling stones). One of the hardest hikes we've done, but also one of the most beautiful.

Fantastic experience: More OBJECTIVE than SUBJECTIVE review, my girlfriend and I decided to try this experience, reading various reviews I must admit we were a bit hesitant, given the many negative ones, but I am here to tell you to have courage and make this effort, it will all be worth it, it won't be easy at all, but feasible if you are motivated, said by a couple not very fit! Of course, know that there are precautions to take, starting with the best time to go, from OCTOBER the best time in our opinion, since the temperatures are milder, start early in the morning, don’t forget trekking shoes, plenty of water minimum 5 liters, food for the arrival, protein bars, a hat, sunscreen, all without overdoing the weight! There will be no shade for most of the route, which opens up to beautiful landscapes, there will be several climbs, and everything you climb up must be descended, when you get down pure spectacle, wild beach with black sand, the ocean making you feel tiny, that sea breeze, a perfect place to frame, I attach various photos of our journey with all the data that might help convince you or make you run away, (you decide). I conclude by saying that this will stay with you, certain things cannot be described, you have to experience them! as long as you decide to.

Fantastic experience: Nice and comfy beach in a remote part of the West Coast of Gran Canaria. Not too many people. Clean and spectacular. There could be a lot of swell if the wind comes from the western sector. The northern part of the beach is more private but check the tidal chart if you don't allow to be waterlocked. The trail to the beach requires physical fit, stamina and supply of drinking water.

Fantastic experience: The route is tough due to the steepness of the terrain and its length. You need to be prepared with suitable footwear, a cap, water, and food. There is a house near the beach that was open and offers some supplies. In my view, the reward after the hike is worth it despite the difficulty, a pristine beach with spectacular black sand away from the crowds.

Fantastic experience: Difficult hike due to over 1000m of elevation change, but superb landscapes and well-deserved swimming at the beach.

Fantastic experience: A beautiful day! Combining hiking and swimming on a paradise beach.
Fantastic experience: In my opinion, the best beach on the island. Few tourists, only those who know why they are there. Access to the beach is through a pass. The ascent to the beach is about 400 m, and back around 500 m. About 10 minutes from the beach is a 'café' where you can drink lemonade and coffee. Getting to the beach requires physical fitness and some familiarity with mountainous terrain. For lovers of mountain hikes, I sincerely recommend it. There is nothing better than running into the ocean after a hard hike :). The sandy bottom is inviting, the waves are quite big. The lack of phone reception is an additional advantage. The views along the trail are breathtaking.
Fantastic experience: Great place for a challenging trek. At the end, the highlight is a beautiful beach with clean sand and a sandy seabed.
Fantastic experience: A full experience. I recommend an early approach or spending the night there to fully enjoy it and see an out of this world sunset.
Fantastic experience: the road is tough but worth it to see this paradise

Positive experience: In November, we didn't suffer from the heat. It was even a light rain that accompanied us to the pass. Fortunately, once we passed it, there was a big blue sky. Be sure to check the weather before leaving. On the way there, 02:10 and on the way back, 02:40 at a gentle pace. We had brought a headlamp just in case. The beach is very beautiful but nothing exceptional for the price of this hike. Also, some pretty lights on the way back with the setting sun. A hut serves coffee and lemonade a bit before the beach. A few nudists on the beach. In short, if you like hiking, it's a good experience. Otherwise, go to Maspalomas or better yet to Greece at Voidokilia beach or Kaladi beach on the island of Cythera.

Fantastic experience: It is an incredible and beautiful place
Fantastic experience: Very difficult and partly dangerous route!! Not suitable for children or inexperienced. For those who manage it, a great, unique experience.
Fantastic experience: The route is tough due to the steepness of the terrain and its length. You need to be prepared with suitable footwear, a cap, water, and food. There is a house near the beach that was open and offers some supplies. Fantastic experience: Superb place
Fantastic experience: Personally I haven’t had much hiking experience beforehand, but thankfully I do workout a lot. Because my god this hike was rough. On the way to the beach we were quite fast 2 hours. On the way back which we started at 2pm it took us 3 hours, the heat was a lot to take and my girlfriend had a few mental breakdowns on the way to the top. Nonetheless it was a hike well worth it! We both drank 3 liters of water each and our phone said we did 27,000 steps so be prepared for a 5 hour long adventure!
Positive experience: Beach with difficult access due to a tough and challenging route not suitable for everyone, where you’ll need to take several breaks and wonder if the destination will really be worth such physical exertion. You won’t have even stepped on the sand of the beach and you’ll already be thinking about the suffering that awaits you on the way back. The route as a challenge is very good, where you will have the reward of a swim in the sea and gather strength for the return. But taking the route believing you'll see the beach of your dreams may not be a very wise decision (or maybe it is) given the suffering it entails.
Negative experience: It's not worth it, grab a beer at the quarries.
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful hike ⛰️
Fantastic experience: Beach with very fine black sand, little shade after 3 PM (in June), view of Teide on clear days. It takes 1.45/2 hours to walk there on a well-marked path, consider it a hiking trail of the Alps. Mountain shoes, a hat, and plenty of water are necessary.
Negative experience: Path to the beach is VERY OVERRATED!! Tedious, tiring, exhausting walk to get to a beautiful and secluded beach. Better leave it that way. It's not worth the trek in the sun, with no shade or trees to rest for a few minutes. If you want to enjoy the beach, better go to others.
Fantastic experience: If you like to torture yourself and reconsider your life existence, this is a great way to do it. It took me about two hours of walk over rough and rocky terrain (felt like torture of Jesus most of the path) but I must admit that the beach was really beautiful. (facts: approx 60-70 minutes going up and around 40 Minutes going down. My watch says I made 8000 steps, but believe me, they should count like 30000) I am not really sure what I was expecting but as I got on the top of the mountain I was hoping for some slide on the other side that will get me fast down there... Was disappointed.. Nevertheless I thought that the easy part awaits, but don't fool yourself, going down may not be difficult as going up but your knees aren't going to be happy about it. 10 Minutes before you arrive to the beach, you'll see an old house with a nice lady inside who is selling beverages. She will also let you refill your water tank. On your way back you can take some bamboo sticks that are laying on the beach. You can use them to support yourself by walking and fighting the creatures that you may encounter on your way (not really sure if I saw any or was hallucinatin by this time, but anyways better safe than sorry). If you'd like to increase difficulty, you can aim sunset for your way back, it will definitely increase the chance of twisted ankles. Pro Tip: take a lots of water with you. You can even set timer for 15 Minutes to remind you to drink it. You can also use this 15 min alarm to turn around and make yourself even more miserable as you see that you haven't moved a bit in a height in a past 15 mins. Pro+ Tip: you can use some old people as orientation for even more miserable experience. I am not sure how they do it but they are like teleporting themselves and eventually you loose them out of sight. This must be some feature which you unlock as you get older, I cannot explain it otherwise. So, best of luck and enjoy your torture on a way to this paradise.
Fantastic experience: Here I can only say 'The journey is the destination' - Beautiful beach. But: ! Take your trash with you and bury feces! Very intense hike over a mountain for about 1.5h ascent and then 2h descent (depending on your luggage and footwear) until you reach the beach. And then back again :D There is also an option to be picked up by a boat, but walking the path twice challenges both mind & body ;) The best moment for me was the successful ascent of the mountain and the view of the sea, the air became so beautifully cool and salty, perfect for the descent.
Negative experience: If you are thinking about going to Gui Gui Beach, think twice. The route is dangerous and it takes more than two hours to get there and the same to come back. The beach is pretty but not spectacular, and I think there are nicer beaches with much easier access on the island. The only positive thing is that there were hardly any people.
Negative experience: Further away than Oliver and Benji's goal. Going (and coming back) to that beach is quite a challenge. First of all, getting to the parking lot is through a dirt road in poor condition. At the beginning of the route, there is a sign warning about the moderate difficulty of the route (moderate for a mountaineer, I would say), that the ground is slippery and that there is no coverage, and that's true, barely 2 minutes after starting the ascent (to Everest), forget about coverage. You start motivated because the beach 'is paradisiacal,' the views 'are stunning,' and (insert other positive phrases read in other reviews), but the plot twist is immediate since just a few meters from the start, a grave appears. This gives you a lot to think about, but don't worry, you will have time to think since it takes a little over two hours to go up and then down to the beach (10:20 start, 10:30 grave, 11:20 summit, 12:30 beach condemned Güigüí. Once you reach the top, you will have to make the most important decision of your trip: start going down, knowing that everything you descend you will have to climb back up, and you will also have to go down everything you’ve already climbed; or decide that enough is enough and start thinking about the next cold beer on the beach, which will taste like glory, and turn back. (You’ll come up with something when asked about Güigüí beach and show a photo taken from the internet). We decided to extend the punishment by betting on the fantastic beach. You might think that going down will be faster than going up, but since it's significantly longer, the time is practically the same for both ascending (an eternity) and descending (another eternity). The good thing about the descent is that you pass by a 'bar' where you can have something cold, snack a little, take the opportunity to check social media or call someone… (#letdown, the bar has a sign saying: tea, lemonade, coffee, so forget about everything else, if you want to snack on something you have to have brought it from home. To summarize, I'm dragging this out more than the trip to Güigüí, when we arrived at the beach, #surprise, there was no one there. In my opinion, the whole journey (about 4h) IS NOT WORTH IT, there was a little wind, the views and the beach itself are nothing extraordinary. I'm posting some photos and videos so everyone can judge and evaluate for themselves if the expedition is worth it. For those of you who are saved this suffering: you're welcome.
Fantastic experience: We took about 4 hours for the round trip. The scenery is beautiful and the beach is very nice, after passing through a kind of oasis. A swim in the cool water is welcome after the first part of the hike! The hike is still quite demanding (sometimes steep, rocky), and it's difficult to go back up a second time.
Positive experience: Takes about 2.5 hours to get to the beach, the hike is half up hill and the other half back down. Definitely for more experienced hikers with proper hiking shoes and plenty of water and electrolytes. The views are stunning at the half way point before starting the trek down to the beach. There is also a small home next to the beach that serves some drinks.
Fantastic experience: The most beautiful beach on the island. You need a lot of water for the hike.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful hike
Positive experience: Something for mountain climbing enthusiasts. The route is quite demanding, mainly in the sun. In total, about 9 km. Is it worth it? I don't think so. When the water level is high, the beach is very small and polluted. Again, I wouldn't choose this beach due to the demanding route and the not-so-charming beach.
Fantastic experience: Very, very tiring hike, but the natural spectacle that the mountain has to offer is priceless. Absolutely a must-do.
Fantastic experience: A unique place, spacious beach, and the whole island is one big and wonderful experience
Fantastic experience: Accessible only via a rugged mountain path or by sea...
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with a quite difficult access - on the way there are plenty of stones and sand that make your feet slide, so I strongly advise against flip-flops. It’s also worth bringing water before setting off, because only at the end of the trail, a few minutes from the beach, are two cafes where you can buy coffee, cola, beer, and you can also refill your water for free. As a warning, there’s a photo with a helicopter; some guy slid down the stones on his butt in front of us and I think he got seriously hurt. We started the trail around noon and despite it being February, the sun was blasting, but the return - we set off around 5 PM - was mostly in the shade. Don’t believe those who say the beach is just okay, because I haven’t seen a prettier one on the island, and this one is almost empty of beachgoers, with a really nice wave; it also seems to me that the water here was much more pleasant than, for example, in Las Palmas.
Negative experience: WORST THAN A CONDEMNATION. Length: 10kms (round trip). Difficulty: high, unless you are very fit. Views: spectacular. Beach: very average. It's all about going up and down a mountain (600m elevation) on a path of considerable-sized stones (beware of the grave of a hiker buried there, no joke, at the beginning of the path) whose slope, quite steep at times, is maintained throughout the entire route. Time taken: at least two hours up and two hours down. Attention to the heat and the lack of mobile coverage. If something happens to you, you can consider yourself j...... Bring enough water, Aquarius or similar, and food. The bar they mention in some reviews is a joke. Summary: absolutely UNNECESSARY unless you are a fan of tough trekking, personal challenges, or similar. The beach is just another one.
Fantastic experience: Stunning virgin beach, depending on the time of year, tides, and storms it will be more or less beautiful. My first time was spectacular, the second less beautiful. From Tasartico where the trail starts, it's 5 km with about 500+ elevation gain (the return is the same but the ascent is longer and less steep). If you're not in shape, it can be tough; it took us 1:25 to reach the top, arriving exhausted. The descent is spectacular. The return is less tough, but be careful with the sun; it can be treacherous. We took 1:10 to return because we ran part of the descent. As they say, watch out for the sun and bring extra water. If you're not physically prepared, take a boat; you will enjoy it more, or walk in one direction and take the boat back. The climb from the port to the car is 2 easy km. Don't trust the house, they are not there all year round.
Fantastic experience: The hike is a great experience. However, it shouldn't be underestimated. At the beginning of the hiking path, there is also a sign with a warning for caution. Please bring enough water. At least 3 liters per person and bring some fruit or something for energy. Both the ascent and descent are really exhausting and shouldn't be underestimated. It's best to start early in the morning so that you don't expose yourself to the sun on the way to the beach. Hiking shoes are a must. The beach is really beautiful and the water is so clear. Swimming there is the best. Don't leave valuables in the car.
Fantastic experience: At night you will see more stars here than in a planetarium.
Fantastic experience: The views of the extraordinary landscape are beautiful. On the way there, we set off around 11 - the path up is quite steep - it's advisable to wear hiking boots - at times it gets quite slippery. The longer stretch from the pass down to the beach offers stunning views of the landscape and the ocean. The hike from the parking lot to the beach takes about 2:30 hours. The nature here is truly incredible. The beach itself is fascinating with black sand and very pleasant waves. You will also be surprised by the friendly cats that live there. Throughout the hike, there is no signal available. It is essential to stock up on drinking water. We were lucky as we managed to get to both beaches - the larger one called 'chica' and the smaller one 'grande'. The way back is no less challenging, so it's important to set out early enough to return before dark.
Positive experience: A long hike of over 4 hours with almost 900 m of elevation gain for a beach that really isn't worth it, fortunately the scenery on this side is beautiful but don't go expecting to see a dream beach. Don't forget to bring plenty of water.
Positive experience: Nice trek with beautiful views. Don't forget to bring enough water and food, it will take you 2+ hours to get to the remote beach and the terrain is quite hard with huge elevation.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful path and beach!!!
Fantastic experience: The kilometers on the sign are wrongly indicated; it shows 5km when in reality it is around 9km. Perhaps they haven't taken into account the uphill and downhill of the mountain. It's essential to avoid the intense sun hours; we started at 9:30 am (by that time the sun already hits the climb, although not as much as it would have if we had started later) and it took us an hour to climb and another hour and a quarter to get down to the beach, this section is half in the shade and half in the sun. On the return, we started at 4:15 pm and finished at 6:25 pm. There is only one path at the beginning, and as you approach the beach, signs appear that send you to other trails like the village. It's advisable to wear suitable shoes to avoid slipping. The views are stunning, as is the pristine beach, crystal clear with fish playing around you. Two liters of water per person was enough for us, although it depends on each individual. We have done this trail and beach twice, and we would definitely go back. The demand seemed medium-high to us due to the heat more than anything; in several sections, it is quite technical, and reaching the summit is steep. Upon reaching the beach, you encounter some little houses, one of which sells coffee/juice and has some adorable kittens that welcome you during the walk.
Fantastic experience: Easily accessible from Tarsartico, but the hike is tough. Pack sturdy footwear and plenty of water! I made a video of the hike and the beach itself: https://youtu.be/-Nr2l3Mw4pw?si=LW4tzwfh2xbzo5tI
Negative experience: I thought I was dying and that for over 5 km both ways! The path is incredibly narrow, on one side there is a steep drop, it's slippery and steep. There's no reception and to be honest, you are completely lost if something happens! It does not compare to the supposedly beautiful beach! The most beautiful beach in Gran Canaria, but not worth a meter of this hike!
Fantastic experience: Charming beach with very fine, black sand. Tranquility, few people, and nature itself. The route from Tasartico is demanding! The trail is partially mountainous with loose stones (slippery!). Bring good shoes, plenty of water (1.5-2L/person!), something to eat, sunscreen, and stamina. No mobile phone reception almost all along the route! About 900m elevation difference spread over 5.2km. Starting from Tasartico at about 180m above sea level to the pass at 550m, the route is about 2km long, then 550m down over about 3.2km. I walked with my 7-year-old son in about 2.5 hours, but only because he is an experienced hiker. At this time of year (October 31), plan to return no later than 4 PM to avoid reaching Tasartico in the dark. The views are phenomenal, and the trip is highly recommended. It stays in your legs and memory for a long time.
Fantastic experience: magic
Fantastic experience: Paradise, but be careful, you have to climb a mountain of 750 meters high.
Fantastic experience: Amazing, wild and nudist beach with black sand, to go and take it easy and preferably not too much sun. It's 5 km in an average of 5 hours. Personally, I found the way there fine, but the ascent on the way back wasn't pleasant, to say the least. I recommend bringing water; that said, going there is a true wonder.
Fantastic experience: It's definitely worth hiking up this hill for the incredible views that no camera can capture.
Fantastic experience: A very beautiful little patch of earth, here nature is still the host. However, the hike to get to this beautiful place is quite disrespectful. 10/10
Fantastic experience: Difficult hike of 5 km with a 900-meter elevation change but a paradisiacal view of the sea and the sunset revealing the island of Tenerife. Hiking enthusiasts, this is for you. A very little-frequented beach due to its access. Great!
Fantastic experience: The paradise beach of Gran Canaria... due to its difficult access, by water is the best option.
Fantastic experience: Some level of fitness is a must have. Be there at sunset/sunrise. There is also a friendly couple near the beach where you can buy lemonade or get some fresh water. It is also one of the darkest places on the Canary Islands, so you can see a lot of stars at night.
Fantastic experience: It is one of the few unspoiled beaches in the Canary Islands. It is located in the municipality of La Aldea, in the west of the island, whose charm lies in its crystal-clear waters, views of Teide, wild nature, and the few visitors it attracts. The Güi-Güi beach is accessed via a somewhat difficult path from the village of Tasartico, although it can also be reached by boat on a crossing from Mogán or from the village's dock. We made the round trip in one day, and although at first glance the distance from where you leave the car to the beach may not seem far, the steep gradient makes the trail quite tough. Therefore, I recommend that if you decide to go, start the hike very early, before the sun and heat become intense (we started walking at 8:20 am, so we left Las Palmas by car at 7 in the morning), and returned around 7:00 pm, with enough time not to be caught by the night on the way, as there is no lighting, but late enough not to suffer from sunburn. Remember to bring plenty of water, even a frozen bottle, to have enough for the return trip. On each leg, you have to go up a large mountain with a significant incline, and come back down, but it is worth it. If you think your physical condition won't help you, remember that you have the option of going by boat.
Fantastic experience: After reading the reviews, I thought that some were exaggerating a bit regarding the difficulty of this trek to the beach. It’s not the case, and the recommendation not to go over the mountains to this beach in the afternoon is absolutely correct. Nevertheless, we managed it and reached the edge of our strength. The last 1.5 km before the beach was saved by a visit to Candy in her little house, who gave us lemonade and my husband a beer (he really needed it; he was cursing me on the way). The way there and back is challenging, but it was definitely worth it. The beach is perfect, wild. Lastly, one more recommendation - don’t leave the beach as late as seven in the evening; it’s really hard to see anything in the dark on the way down after crossing the mountain.
Negative experience: Three hours of desert mountain without shade, we finished 3 liters of water, we finally arrived at the beach to swim and it was full of dead fish and smelled like a fish market, summary: we couldn't swim. The best part was the return, which is harder than the way there and hotter than before. Highly recommended.
Fantastic experience: The beach is very nice. You can enjoy some shade from the big cliffs and the water is clear and fresh. Now about the hike: on the first sign that you see it says 5km to the beach but I think it is more than that. The difficulty is medium, let's say, but the sun and heat make it harder. For us, it took like 2.5 hours to get there because we stopped a lot to cool off.
Fantastic experience: The beach itself is decent, nothing really special about it other than the fact it's pretty private with not a lot of people since it's hard to access. The hike, on the other hand, is really impressive. It took us around 2h30m each way, but the views are just stunning. I recommend you bring a lot of water since it's probably going to be hot and not a lot of places to hide from the sun. There is a really nice lady that gives away free water close to the beach side (you can donate something if you want). And another important thing is to try to go early and leave late to avoid the hottest periods of the day. Keep in mind the hike is a pretty hard one, but if you get enough water, you should be able to do it.
Fantastic experience: Please take some food and water for the cats, they are about 300 meteres from the beach
Fantastic experience: Another lyrical place, secret heaven. Carefully with hiking, it’s says moderate but you need to be up-skill and fit to complete and return !
Positive experience: The beach is beautiful, but the hike is really hard. I wouldn't recommend it without proper hiking shoes and backpack. It's worth it only if you enjoy hiking. We ran out of water but luckily there was a place selling lemonade and they let us refill our water bottles.
Fantastic experience: I don't like hiking so it was a bit challenging for me to get there, but the beach itself was absolutely amazing. We went for a camping there with my friends.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic, extremely beautiful beach. With two hours good paced walking distance. Not that remote that it is not found also by others, but due to the size one can feel almost alone at least on the last beach of the 3 beaches. The trail is easy to manage for everybody used to walk in mountains, not including those who take a cable car up mountains and feel like mountaineers. ;-) 360 meters elevation. About 100 meters height down from the rigde there is a cave with shadow on the right side of the trail for those in need, walking in the direction to the beach. Just big enough for one person to lay down, but space for many to sit. The trailhead down of Tasartico is easy to find and obvious with all the signs and other cars parking there. Take at least one bottle of water with you. Down at the beach there is a pipe with fresh water. I was told it tastes minerals. Some people stay over night. In case take care not to sleep to close to the steep walls. Guys who slept under the only palm tree told me that a stone fell just beside them and crushed the concrete roof of a closed shelter/storage there.
Fantastic experience: The last paradise on Earth...
Fantastic experience: Difficult hike but worthwhile
Fantastic experience: Absolutely beautiful! The hike is not in summer heat but definitely worth it! Bring some food and water for the cats who live where the trail starts.
Fantastic experience: Best beach you can find in Gran Canaria. Access is bit challenging, you should be used to do some hiking. It’s about 6 kms one way and for well trained people it takes about 1:45 hours to get there and about 2 hours to get back.
Fantastic experience: Worth a trip! Take water and food with you as the hike takes around 2 hours one way. The beach is fabulous!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic beach that is worth visiting. The hike to go there may not be short or easy and takes a good effort, but if you take your time and dont forget good shoes, water and food it is worth it. You will find the beginning of the route some hundred meters behind Tasartico. The way to the beach and back took us 3 hours and 20 minutes in motion as people who hike a lot. It is about 9,16km and 840m up and down in total (~420m is the highest point which you will have to pass for the way to the beach and back). Make sure to plan enough time, it may get pretty hot on the way. The beach is not that big but it looks pretty nice with black sand and it feels like a great reward for the hike.
Fantastic experience: The by far best beach on all of the island. Very fine sand, not too windy, waves not too high. The best part - no fat tourists thanks to the 2h hike to get there. Don’t miss this. I cannot understand reviews who say they were underwhelmed by this .. the hike isn’t short, but it’s fairly easy. Just take enough water. Quite a few people sleep over night on the beach. You definitely need a tent though.
Fantastic experience: Great day out starting with driving along the narrow mountain roads followed by a decent hike and then a rather quiet remote beach. We parked just before the village that was about a kilometer to the start of the hike not realising that there was ample parking at the start although getting to the start involved driving along a dirt road. The hike was nice although at one point we missed the path and climbed up the valley that made it a bit more challenging. With decent hiking gear and fitness the walk to the beach can be done in just over an hour and a half but best to allow 2 hours if it is hot. No drinks or food available on the beach however there is a little house that sells kemonade and there was a water pipe on the beach with drinking water that aas used by campers. Beware the tide and research the times of the tide before setting off as the second/ third beach that is nicer is only accessible at low tide. There were people camping on the third beach and I was really envious as they had the whole beach to themselves at high tide. My tip is to go early to avoid the strong sun but the beach is nicer in the afternoon as it is west facing.
Fantastic experience: The approach takes around 2 hours and goes up and down straight over a mountain. Make sure you check the tide before you go as there is no beach at all at high tide. The beach itself is beautiful and is worth the walk in. If you plan to camp in the evening do the honourable method and tackle the 2 hour approach on foot. If you are the type of person to arrive by boat with cool boxes and deck chairs etc then you are not much welcome at the playa and you should leave the tranquility of the place for those who are willing to walk for the reward.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful clear water, worth it after a hike in the sun. Take water and leave nothing.
Fantastic experience: Great place, watch for the tide tough — on high tide there is not much beach. Also there are hungry cats but they are cute
Fantastic experience: Kind of virgin beach, with very few visitors due to the exhausting walk up and down the mountain to get there. Really worthy!
Fantastic experience: It is a lovely beach, when the tide is low you can walk to the second beach as well! Bring enough water and food, the hike there can be challenging! It takes 2,5 hours to get there.
Fantastic experience: Great hike to the beach! 5k walking (easy, just more than one hour) you will arrive at the hidden beach. During the walk, we only seen one 3 people. Arriving at the beach, you see a wunderfull and quiet place. After the walk in the nature, it's best to go skinny dipping and feel one with the nature;) there isn't any phone connection, so be carefull with the sometimes large waves.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic beach, secluded and it's quite an effort to get there but it is well worth it!! Definitely recommended, grab a rental as there are great scenic roads over there as well.
Fantastic experience: One of the best beaches you may find on canares. Cause there is this "not-from-this-world" fine black sand, where at other beaches you may find more bigger stones. As its hard to access playa de güi-güi, there is no mass tourism. There is no street leading to this beach, you have to climb over hills for 4 hours to come there, so plan to start early in the morning, as you have also to climb back 4 hours, before its night. You could also access that beach via boat (cost around 20€). Maybe its best to prepare and stay there over night. Dont know if that special feeling on this special beach comes from the hard way to access it - but to me it was one of the highlights of Gran Canaria. Will come back for sure.
Fantastic experience: One of the best beaches I've ever been. The walk is also very beautiful, but take enough time and water with you. There is also a small bar where you can drink a beer or cola.
Fantastic experience: If you are looking for a real experience and don't want feel like a tourist, you have to visit this amazing place. A paradise place hidden from the tourist areas. A must for explorers.
Fantastic experience: one of the most interesting hikes in Gran Canaria... fantastic landscape... bring lots of water and some food
Fantastic experience: Nice beach with a very difficult access. You have to go over a mountain to get there.
Fantastic experience: I guess is worth to get there, anyhow we needed to turn around as we went there to late in the afternoon. We thought it is an hour and a half hike, but we were obviously wrong. But we will go another time in the morning and spend all day there :) can't wait.
Fantastic experience: Nice relaxing place. Take time to get there and the way is not so hard but also not so easy, a lot of small stones and dust. Look out on the see level when you want to pass to another part of the beach. Be sure that you will have enough time to come back, befor water cut out your way back .
Fantastic experience: Hard to get there but its worth it
Fantastic experience: So nice beach. When you go by walk, be ready for hard way, better nordic walking. The trek is good signed. About 2 hours one way. The views over the beach are famous. By the hippies downstair you can buy the drink. Not a lot of people. You can be there naked, nudism is here normal.
Fantastic experience: As a tour/hiking is fantastic and memorable experience with a great view. The hike is challenging, 5km with 600m elevation throught the mountain spine from Tasartico, and usually you have to go back in the same path. The coast is beautiful as well but without the hiking nothing special (in GC), it could be a disappointment for a usual tourist approaching by boat. There are several ruin and high ground nearby.
Negative experience: I highly dissuade this place. Sure, it's difficult trip and some people would count it as accomplishment, but the reward is not satisfying for the effort taken. First of all, consider the tide, because you won't even be able to get near the ocean, beach is full of rocks and you can only see real beach and the sand when its outflow. Second of all it supposed to be wild, untouched beach but there's lot of people staying the night and making mess (old mattress lying around...). Seriously, you need to be very lucky to have this trip worth the effort. It can take from 1.30h to 3h to get there and don't forget to get back before dark...
