Information

Playa del Silencio, also known as El Gavieru, is a stunning beach located in the Cudillero region of Asturias, Spain. Visitors are often captivated by the breathtaking views and the feeling of tranquility that the area exudes. However, there are some challenges that potential visitors should be aware of:

  • Access: The access to the beach can be difficult, with steep paths and a long walk from the parking area, which charges a fee of around 3 euros.
  • Parking: While there are paid parking options, many visitors find it more convenient to park along the road, which may lead to congestion and possible delays.
  • Facilities: The beach lacks amenities such as beach bars or showers, meaning visitors should plan accordingly.
  • Beach Composition: The beach is composed mainly of rocks rather than sand, which some find uncomfortable for walking or lounging.

Despite these drawbacks, many agree that the scenic beauty and the unique rock formations are well worth the effort, and it remains a highly recommended spot for nature lovers.

Fantastic experience: Very nice view. We did not go down to the beach, but a walk on a top was very nice. Parking near the beach is 3 €.

Fantastic experience: Like in Patagonia! When you are there, you can understand why this beach is regularly crowned as the most beautiful Spanish beach. The descent is quick, the path and the stairs are simple. The beach is made up of pebbles, just like in Nice, for example. Some people mention this for some reason. This makes the water wonderfully clear, and the waves make the pebbles roll. The perfect soundtrack to the natural spectacle. Arrival: the approach and parking already provide a second adrenaline rush. Actually, it is quite a narrow dirt road that leads down. Unfortunately, this does not rule out the possibility of vehicles coming towards you in the wrong direction. It is also not guaranteed that you will find a parking space at the bottom. The state should actually completely ban access here and offer a larger parking lot at the top. Walking would be better. Then the magic of the place would be even greater. Conclusion: 1 magical place that justifies a longer detour. An absolute highlight on the Atlantic, especially at sunset. Top site!

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach. My wife and I visited on 24 Oct and parking was easy, close to the start of the walk down to the beach. The walk down to the beach was very pleasant because the zig-zag path down to the beach was well-designed.

Fantastic experience: We wanted to drive to the parking lot at Silence Beach at night to spend the night there, but we decided against it when we got there. It kind of had the vibe of the movie 'The Hills Have Eyes'. The road there is a narrow one-way street that goes through fields, forests, and a small village that was also quite eerie at night. The parking spots marked on Google Maps do not exist, only this uneven parking bay for about 6-10 vehicles over Silence Beach. The next morning we drove there again. The feeling was definitely more relaxed, yet it still had something mystical. From the parking lot to the beach, there are several stairs to go down, we took about 10 minutes. It is a rocky beach with somewhat higher waves. It is rather unsuitable for swimming, but it is worth it for a small hike.

Positive experience: Un lugar espectacular.

Positive experience: A hidden gem that is worth the 'walk' to get there. Picture-postcard perfect. The beach isn't sandy, it's pebbly. There are many rocks that make swimming difficult. But the privileged location, the feeling of wild freedom, and the incredible views more than make up for these small inconveniences. There are no beach bars on or near the beach. There are 2 parking lots, although many people leave their cars near the path down. Water shoes are a must.

Negative experience: Dangerous and long access, beach that disappears with the tide, no beach bar or services at the beach, the photos are very beautiful though, just like any of the 1000 places we have in Asturias, not worth it.

No socorristas.

Fantastic experience: The Playa del Silencio, near Oviedo, is a true refuge for those seeking calm and peace in its highest expression. This hidden corner of the Asturian coast captivates with its stunning natural beauty: a landscape of crystal-clear waters surrounded by high cliffs, where the only soundtrack is the gentle murmur of the sea. Without buildings or crowds, this place conveys a deep sense of serenity. The contrast between the rocks and the ocean creates a spectacular view, perfect for disconnecting and reconnecting with nature. Undoubtedly, an essential destination for those who value tranquility and contact with the essentials.

Fantastic experience: It's the most natural beach in Asturias, when you bathe in its waters you are surrounded by marine life, ideal for snorkeling or diving. The only downside is the **** tourism, with tourists filling everything with trash... Thankfully, the committed locals clean the beach every now and then. Nice experience, but throw the trash in your backpack if you forgot the bag, gua***!

Whyem19 4 years ago

Negative experience: There have been many disappearances there, as the reason why something was pulling people toward the depths of the sea leads to many cases of people going missing, so I rate it a 1/10.

Negative experience: I give it one star just to give it something. UFFFFF HORRIBLE. We came from Extremadura on vacation. You see it on Google and it looks great, but it’s a big pile of crap. On top of that, the parking attendant is a jerk who charges you €5 when it’s €3 because the company confirmed it to us. Anyway, we are now at another beach, but in better conditions: Playa Aguilar... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Much better than the Silence Beach where you break your feet! JjjJjJjJjJ

Negative experience: A complete scam, we all go like sheep following the recommendations of influencers and when you arrive, the first thing they do is charge you 3€ for a so-called parking from which you have to walk 1km downhill along a goat path. It is not a beach, it is a cliff, like the other 30 in the area and prettier ones, the beach is 40 minutes down a poorly maintained staircase and it's not even a beach. If you have time, don't waste it, 5 minutes away you have the same (or better) and accessible.

Fantastic experience: A beautiful place with water just like the Caribbean but colder. Pebble beach.

Fantastic experience: The beach is lovely from the viewpoint before the stairs. It's worth going! It's about 700m walking from the paid parking. However, DON'T PAY THE €3 FOR PARKING, YOU CAN PARK YOUR CAR RIGHT AT THE VIEWPOINT AND NOT PAY, IT'S A RIP-OFF FROM THE TOWN HALL.

Positive experience: The beautiful part is the views from the upper area, the beach itself is nothing special, it is rocky and the water is quite cold, and you have to walk quite a long way down and back up. To make matters worse, the neighbors now charge you €3 to leave your car, which is of questionable legality; it's better to leave the car in the first caravan parking lot, which is free and only a 5-minute walk more.

Silvitas 1 year ago

Fantastic experience: It is one of the many beaches that luckily you can find along the coast of Asturias, each one has its charm, and this one does not disappoint at all. We entered through Novellana, instead of doing it through Castañeras, which you can reach by car up to about 300 meters before the beach and walk the rest. And through Novellana, we couldn't get down to the bottom, but on the contrary, the views from above are spectacular and the tranquility and silence that reigned live up to its name. If you are going to be in the area or visiting the surroundings, don't miss it...

Fantastic experience: Tranquility, beautiful landscape and the sea that never stops making waves, a spectacular scenery, you go on the N-632 towards Galicia and see the sign for Playa del Silencio, you take a narrow concrete path with a one-way direction, there is limited parking on the sides, you park and take a nice walk enjoying the spectacular landscape, then as I said it's one-way and you exit a bit before where you entered.

Fantastic experience: Magnificent. A good steep descent (which of course you'll have to climb back up at the end!) but it's worth the effort. I will come back. There is a paid parking at the beginning of the trail, but since it was stormy, we were able to park for free by the side of the road.

Fantastic experience: Something incredible to admire from multiple viewpoints. Huge rocks plunging into a calm, silent ocean, almost sheltered from the wind. Something difficult to describe, exciting to experience and see. If you come in a camper: You can reach it with a camper up to 7 meters! Very little space along the way, but you can pass and park sideways. Halfway there is a small square where you can also decide how to position yourself. The view is top! The stress of getting there is worth it. If you find a flat spot, you can also sleep. Access to Playa via a long and comfortable staircase. No bins. Just wild.

Negative experience: Beach with quite poor vehicle access, many slopes, and tight parking spots, on dirt and not well-maintained surroundings. The descent is quite good with a handrail. On the other hand, the same stones can be uncomfortable at times.

Positive experience: Beautiful place. 1* If you have two signposted parking lots that are not free, why do you allow vehicle access all the way to the stairs leading down to the beach? Aren't they regulated? 2" It costs very little to place one or two trash cans at the foot of the access stairs to the beach, both on the way down and on the way up, so that users, with very good judgment, do not have to leave trash in a pile. What is the parking money for?

Positive experience: Very beautiful beach and relatively easy to access. However, the slope to go up and down is quite long and steep. There is a parking lot about 5-10 minutes walking that costs €2 and can be paid with bizum. Otherwise, further down there is also space for many cars on the same shoulder.

Fantastic experience: Precise pebble beach. You leave the car a 15-minute walk away. I recommend it because parking is 3 euros and you don't risk leaving your car on the edge of a cliff on the roadside.

Fantastic experience: This is one of the most amazing places I have ever been in my life. Nature, untouched by man, brings an incredible sense of peace to your soul. I felt infinitesimal in this incredible place. We visited in the fall of 2019 and there was no one at this place. I could sit here for hours and listen to the sound of the rocks moving back and forth in the water. If you have a chance and love nature, this is a definite must see.
