Information

Playa de los Muertos is a stunning pebbly beach located in Cabo de Gata, renowned for its crystal-clear waters and beautiful surroundings. However, accessing the beach involves a challenging hike of about 10-20 minutes from the parking area, which costs around 4€. Visitors recommend arriving early to secure parking, as it fills up quickly, especially on busy summer days.

Despite its beauty, many users note that the beach can be overcrowded, especially during peak season. The beach does not offer amenities such as food vendors or shade, so it is advisable to bring your own supplies, including water and snacks. Some users enjoyed snorkeling and appreciated seeing various fish in the water, making it a great spot for underwater enthusiasts.

On the downside, the path to the beach can be steep and rocky, which may pose difficulties for visitors with mobility challenges or those carrying heavy loads. Additionally, some reviewers expressed disappointment with the beach's current popularity, stating that it feels less tranquil and overrun with tourists.

Overall, Playa de los Muertos is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates natural beauty, but be prepared for a rigorous trek and the summer crowds.

Positive experience: Beautiful beach with not very 'comfortable' access; you have to wear suitable footwear to get there. What is a shame is the view of the port that overshadows the beauty of the place. Of course, we went in December and the beach was empty; I don't know if it's worth it in the summer, when it's crowded and you have to climb up and down that slope to get there.

Fantastic experience: It's one of the beaches you shouldn't miss in Cabo de Gata - Níjar in Carboneras (Almería). An ideal beach for diving and snorkeling with calm sea. First, you need to arrive early at the parking lot that is closest to the information booth and therefore the closest to the most accessible path down. Don't forget to bring sports shoes and some slippers for the beach, as it's mostly pebbles and rocks, especially in the area adjacent to Punta de los Muertos. You have about 10 minutes of descent (the ascent is harder if you’re loaded). There are three paths, but the one from the information point is the most accessible. It's not a recommended descent for people with reduced mobility. It's a quiet and family-friendly beach where you can spend the whole day without feeling overwhelmed. The point area gets a bit more crowded, especially in the inner cove area. From the Punta de los Muertos area towards the Faro de Mesa Roldán, you can dive in blue waters and visit caves and small coves of white sand and rocks. You need to be careful with the currents, and even if it seems calm, take precautions as if you had a yellow flag. The seabed has rocks with some seagrass meadows. You'll see many Mediterranean species, and you might encounter rays that come to the beach searching for plankton banks. The beach's bottom is sandy.

Positive experience: Taking that long walk under the sun is not worth it. We went in the afternoon, there are no crowds in the parking lot and the heat is less stifling (use your umbrella).

Positive experience: Beach with crystal clear water, beautiful. Very crowded, it's important to arrive early to park, the parking lot gets full, it's 4 euros and you can pay by card.

Fantastic experience: One of my dreams came true, I needed to visit that beach because of all the comments I see on Facebook and it did not disappoint me at all. Impressive, a little further in from the shore you can see fish with a pair of diving goggles. You can bring dogs as long as they are leashed because they are allowed even if the signs don't indicate that. It is advisable to wear tied sports shoes and not carry too much load since the descent is quite significant and when going back up, it becomes quite heavy when tired.

Positive experience: The beach is very beautiful (although not more than others in Cabo de Gata), without sand, made of precious pebbles, crystal clear waters, and marine fauna. The problem is the overcrowding, there are many people and the atmosphere on the beach is not peaceful. In the short time I was there, I saw many disrespectful behaviors towards the environment... A lot of Instagram posing, reggaeton blasting, and people hunting little sea creatures, including a beautiful starfish to take pictures with (my 7-year-old daughter had to go and tell them that if they don’t know that stars die outside of water). I wouldn't come back.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful and idyllic place in Cabo de Gata, if it weren't because I parked my car on the curve of the road, like many others, because the parking lot was full, and because the descent to the little beach is a true physical adventure with a difficulty level of God, with the satisfaction of seeing a path that looks like a pilgrimage to Lourdes, because when you arrive at the beach you only see a multicolored field of umbrellas, thousands, and you spend a good time choosing your spot, walking on pebbles, not sand, because when you step into that crystal clear and wonderful water, you take a step forward and sink to infinity and beyond, and you want to get out and, God, you can't because there's a slope of pebbles that trap you and won't let you go, because when I leave I return to the path and now it's all uphill, crossing many pilgrims loaded up to their ears with coolers, umbrellas, mats, dogs, and going down in flip-flops with a cigarette or joint in their mouth, but the climb is a true feat of overcoming and personal fulfillment (the beer jar is closer), because when you finally reach the top and have to go to the car you parked almost in the town of Carboneras, you think that you won't come back here on land, maybe come back, but by sea... a place to see and enjoy, in silence, and listen, but not like this... perhaps in winter, being alone and thus being able to admire the wonderfulness of this place...

Negative experience: SOBREVALORADA. No repetiré. JAMÁS.

Positive experience: There is paid parking for €4. They really overcharge: charging four euros to leave the car in a dirt and stone lot under the sun without supervision. After walking for about 10 minutes, you reach the beach, which has very clean water and a very good temperature. Ideal for seeing fish, although there may be jellyfish. The sand is coarse.

Fantastic experience: I have never liked beaches, however this one has captivated me so much that I can't stop thinking about going back. A beautiful, clean, and untouched place. It is not overexploited partly because the access is not completely easy, and during the high season it is very pleasant. In my case, I also liked it so much because without sand, you don't get as dirty. In short, it's amazing.

Positive experience: Somewhere on IG it's advertised as the best beach in Spain. However: - The access is complicated and the climb back is even more so. Not suitable for older people. - The sand is made of stones and in the heat, you can't even walk barefoot. - The waters are what makes it worthwhile, they are crystal clear. But they are not flat, so be careful with small kids. - Since the beach is crowded, for me, it loses part of its charm. - At one end, you can see the cranes and conveyor belts of the cement factory that is just outside Carboneras. - There is no beach bar, the only good thing about a charming beach.

Fantastic experience: Incredible place, especially because of its history. The dirt parking is good, but if you go in the middle of summer, it's almost impossible to find a spot. To access, you have to go down a mountain that you then need to climb back up, but the parking isn't very far from the beach; it might take about 10 minutes on foot. The downside is that when you arrive at the beach, there are no beach bars or anything to refresh yourself, so I recommend you bring a good cooler with ice packs and cold drinks. However, occasionally you can see some people walking around with street vendors selling both fruit and drinks.

Fantastic experience: The Playa de los Muertos in Almeria is a destination worth visiting, especially in the company of good friends. This corner of the Almerian coast offers an impressive natural setting, with crystal-clear waters and an expanse of white, fine sand. Access to the beach requires a short hike, but once you arrive, the effort is rewarded with spectacular views and a tranquil atmosphere. The beach is quite spacious, allowing for a comfortable spot to relax, sunbathe, or enjoy some time in solitude or with company. Although it lacks services such as nearby bars or restaurants, this also contributes to its charm, keeping it less crowded and more authentic. It's advisable to bring everything you need for the day, including water and food. Playa de los Muertos is an ideal destination to enjoy the natural beauty of Almeria and share special moments with friends in a serene and picturesque setting.

Elvira González 3 years ago

Julián Muñoz Pérez 3 years ago

Sombrilla.

Fantastic experience: We loved this beach, the area at the back around the rocks is the best. In the afternoon, shade falls and there is no need to lower the umbrella. The water is super clear and if you go snorkeling the view is spectacular. There was a man making mojitos for 6/7€. I recommend wearing water shoes. There is parking for 4€ and going down and up doesn't cost much if you don't carry many things like chairs and others.

Positive experience: MAGNIFICENT beach, and I say it in uppercase personally because I love snorkeling and I was amazed, clear water and many fish. It is true that it is not recommended for going with small children, because the waves break very hard, you have to walk for a while down a path and it is a beach full of Chinese people, but if you have children who love being tossed by the waves, they should definitely come here!!! And lastly, keep in mind, you have to walk about 10/20 minutes depending on the pace, and it usually gets quite windy, so I don't recommend too many tents, etc... I was fine with 1/2 umbrellas.

Fantastic experience: Exceptional place to spend a full day. It is important to consider that it is a beach with difficult access, where you have to walk about 15 minutes to get to it from the parking lot (which costs €4 for cars, and I recommend arriving by 10 am at the latest because it gets crowded). The walk to the beach is not easy; it is a downhill path of sand and stones that requires sports shoes (be careful with water shoes and flip-flops are prohibited!) and to go without too much weight because the heat is intense. The return to the car is uphill and, although you return with less weight (you have consumed drinks and food), the climb is tiring with so many stones. Despite this, it is totally worth visiting it. Its beach is wonderful, with turquoise and crystal-clear waters where you can snorkel and see many fish swimming around you and even touching you. The beach has small stones, so you need to wear water shoes. In my opinion, it is a comfortable beach because you don't get filled with sand. The entry to the sea has a steep slope and deepens quickly. You can take a walk to the rocks and work on your quadriceps since walking on stones is harder than on sand, but it is worth taking a stroll because the landscape is so wild and natural that it captivates you. It is a magical place!

Fantastic experience: WONDERFUL PLACE. You have to park quite far away if it’s a hot summer day because the parking fills up. At least a 30-minute walk. It’s 200m downhill over rocky areas. There is a kiosk at the top with soft drinks, water, and various items. It is advisable to bring snorkeling goggles, the fish are right at the shore, a lot of them, and water shoes; the beach has pebbles.

Fantastic experience: IMPORTANT: IF YOU SEE THAT THE SEA IS NOT CALM, DO NOT GO BEYOND THE SHORE, STAY WHERE THE FIRST WAVE BREAKS. EVEN IF IT SEEMS FUN, THIS BEACH HAS STRONG CURRENTS IN SEVERAL DIRECTIONS. THE COAST GUARD WILL FIND IT IMPOSSIBLE TO HELP IF YOU ARE DRAGGED TO THE ROCKS ON THE RIGHT, AS THEY ALSO RISK CAPSIZING THE BOAT. DO NOT SWIM ALONE AND DO NOT GO BEYOND THE FIRST WAVE; YOU WILL PUT YOUR LIFE AND THE LIFE OF THOSE WHO COME TO HELP YOU IN DANGER.

Fantastic experience: The beach is located very close to the town of Carboneras. To reach it, we will have to leave the car in one of the parking lots available. The price as of July 22 was €4 for cars, €2 for motorcycles, €1 for mopeds, and €5 for caravans. There is plenty of space. In the height of summer, people were finding spots by arriving at one in the afternoon. PAYMENT IS MANDATORY BY CARD. To get to the beach, we will have to follow a quite simple route. It's no more than 8-9 minutes. I recommend wearing comfortable shoes, although some people do it in flip-flops. The path has stones and rocks. The beach is beautiful, and the water is completely clear. You can swim at the shore and see the fish swim around you. RECOMMENDATIONS: Water shoes, comfortable footwear, and snorkeling goggles.

Positive experience: I cannot recommend it, with views of a cement factory?? My goodness, what a disappointment I have had... there are hundreds of better beaches than this one in Spain... To get there, you must wear comfortable sports shoes to avoid breaking an ankle on the way down. It's a bit steep if you are carrying something. 15 minutes to go up and 15 to come down. I do not recommend it.

Positive experience: Taking that long walk under the sun is not worth it. We went in the afternoon, there are no crowds in the parking lot and the heat is less stifling (use your umbrella).

Fantastic experience: The best beach in Cabo de Gata. The access is not great, you have to go early to be able to park. But the beach is stunning. You must bring snorkeling goggles or a mask.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, crystal clear water full of fish. Go beyond the rock. There is another even more beautiful and wild little beach. The walking descent to get there starts from the information point that is in front of the parking lot. At the information point, you can also find drinks and water. The descent is a trail that is never too steep, at times with uneven, disconnected steps; it is doable and takes about 15 minutes, challenging under the sun but absolutely nothing difficult as some comments suggest. Kids, elderly people, and people carrying things do it... Wonderful place!

Positive experience: The access did not surprise us. The descent was relatively comfortable. The ascent, if you don't go up at four in the afternoon, is relatively easy. We were negatively surprised by the total number of clothed people. Nobody, absolutely, was naturist. The beach is a paradise.

Positive experience: Beautiful. The downside is that there is nothing nearby to buy, not even water. And the path is too long, especially if you are with children or elderly people; it can easily take 30 minutes to go down and another 30 to come up... And they charge you for parking.

Fantastic experience: It's worth going and seeing those waters with your own eyes. There is paid parking for 4€, but it gets full, although you can find parking nearby on both sides of the road. After that, to access the beach, you have to go down a somewhat steep dirt path for about 10-15 minutes and then come back up the same way. The water is crystal clear, and as soon as you enter the shore, it is quite deep.

Fantastic experience: The most beautiful beach I have ever been to in Spain. Watch out for jellyfish :). They don't sting much, but you can find them here. The water is incredibly clear - to the point that you can see the bottom at depths of several or even dozens of meters. Amazing. A huge amount of fish. Crabs hide in the nearby rocks. You have to walk about a kilometer over gentle hills to get to the beach (this is not a place for retirees or people who have difficulty moving).

Negative experience: It is a beautiful beach. So much tourism is massifying it, and the truth is that the situation is not what it used to be. It's a shame that they destroy our beaches this way just for the show of taking a photo to upload to social media and boost their ego of being pretty when they may not know that it is a beach located in a natural park. Honestly, tourism is fine, but tourism in this way exploits the territory and makes the locals feel uncomfortable.

Fantastic experience: One of the most crystal clear I've seen around Cabo de Gata. It has turquoise water that is comparable to the Maldives. Quite deep but ideal for diving; you can see different fish. Fine stony sand and rather complicated access, it's not recommended to go loaded because the walk is tremendous. It's worth it.

Fantastic experience: Crystal clear waters with many fish present are ideal for diving, the parking is paid (4€) but in my opinion it's worth it even if you have to pay. You have to walk about 10/15 minutes downhill, the access is not entirely easy if you are heavily loaded. It fills up quite a bit so it's better to arrive very early, but there is enough space. A place you have to visit without a doubt.

Fantastic experience: It is a real wonder, especially the water. Spectacular, clean, and transparent. It is definitely worth parking the car in the paid parking and walking down; it takes 15 minutes to go down and a little more to come back up, but I definitely recommend it and hope it continues to be maintained and cared for because it is a true wonder.

Fantastic experience: Spectacular beach, for its crystal clear waters, for its surroundings... for diving, for swimming, for disconnecting in general, although there are usually a lot of people since it has become fashionable for years. If you don't go early, you might run out of space in the small parking lot by the roadside. It costs 4 euros to leave the car and you have to walk about 15 minutes to get down to the beach. It's totally worth it.

Fantastic experience: An unforgettable experience going down the rocky path for about 15 minutes to reach this wild beach, with clear water and colorful stones like sand. It’s a deep beach with strong waves, but it’s worth visiting if you enjoy these kinds of remote and wild places. This beach has warm water, and there’s nothing around, so you need to bring an umbrella, a cooler with drinks, and some food; it’s worth spending the whole day. I recommend coming early in the morning because there’s a parking lot relatively close that fills up quickly (costs 4 euros), and then there’s that rocky and slightly difficult path, but if you enjoy exercise and hiking, you will enjoy it. Bring boots to go down this path (don’t do it in flip-flops), usually the young people stay in the middle of the beach, to the right more families with children (as that part is shallower) and to the left those who want more privacy. The water, being so clear, is ideal for seeing the fish, so bring what you need for that. Be very careful because the beach has STRONG waves.

Fantastic experience: Spectacular beach, stunning water. There is quite a bit of wave action, no fine sand, it's made up of very small stones. You access it after going down a path of about 1 km, it has no services so you need to be well-equipped. You have to leave the car in a regulated parking lot that costs 4 euros, I recommend going early because if it fills up you cannot access the beach in any way.

Negative experience: The beach is nice, but the people at the information point at the top of the hill are shameless and have never known what it is to work. After climbing all the way up the hill and without water, we asked there, and they wouldn't accept card payments. The prices were excessive, 3 euros for a bottle of water and 3 euros for anything you can imagine, the lady put a price of 3 euros on everything, a shame and a typical place to quickly and easily exploit people xd

Fantastic experience: Amazing. There are no words to describe this beach, definitely one of the best in Spain. Crystal clear waters, it is spacious and for children it is maximum fun. It is full of fish that will swim behind you to 'play'. Definitely a must-visit. The only downside is the access; it's a 15-minute walk that is not a problem going down to the beach... but the climb is another story. Not suitable for people with reduced mobility. I recommend bringing water and some food.

Fantastic experience: I was staying nearby and as I couldn't leave without visiting this marvel, we arrived early to be exact, and we were the third in the parking lot without any problems. They charge you €4 only by card. The path starts flat with stones, and as you advance it gets steep with quite a gradient. Obviously, it's not suitable to go down with carts and the like because you can slip and roll. Still, people bring everything needed for a day at the beach. Otherwise, the water is spectacular; you're snorkeling surrounded by fish that are not skittish. I recommend going with goggles for sure so you don't miss it. I would definitely come back to spend the morning again.

No repetiré.

Alex 1 year ago

Catalina Clemente 1 year ago
