Caves of the Sea Beach
Information
Cuevas del Mar Beach is a stunning location renowned for its white sandy shores flanked by karst rock formations, offering breathtaking landscapes and numerous caves to explore. Visitors appreciate the beauty of the beach, especially at low tide when the rock formations and caves are most visible.
However, the experience can be marred by parking issues. Many users reported heavy fines from the local authorities due to poor signage indicating parking restrictions. There is a small paid parking area that can be difficult to navigate during peak season, leading to complaints about the local government's aggressive ticketing practices. Despite these challenges, those who enjoy tranquility and natural beauty find this hidden gem worth visiting.

Negative experience: Some shameless people at the town hall, October 10th, nobody on the beach not even the lifeguards, but I get a €200 fine for parking where the rescue team is supposed to be, which they weren't, the one who was there, the puppet of the moment who gets bored and goes to annoy the people who leave money in their land, when there was nobody on the whole beach.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place with great charm. Wild beach that can be accessed by car.
Positive experience: Beautiful beach, there is parking and they do climbing.
Positive experience: Beautiful! A unique and different beach. The only downside is that it has little parking and it's quite small, don't go on a Sunday in August at 12:00 because you definitely won't find a spot. That said, it is beautiful, worth visiting.
Negative experience: Parking is not possible

Positive experience: Very quiet beach, spectacular views of the caves. Dogs are not allowed. There's a beach bar very close to the beach.
No aceptan mascotas.

Fantastic experience: There are like two beaches, very beautiful and with stones. It hardly covers, great for kids.
Positive experience: Beach with quite a few stones but beautiful and with a beach bar next to it.
Fantastic experience: It's a beautiful beach, it has both sand and stones. When the tide is low, you can appreciate the rock formations. The waves are a bit big. There is a large parking area. There is a beach bar.
Fantastic experience: A beach in the council of Llanes with everything you need to have a good day. Wave-free water, white sand, a cave area for exploring and taking photos, a climbing area with several routes of different difficulty, and a beach bar where you can have a drink or eat. There is very little free parking and there is only a paid parking lot that costs €2.5 per car but it is not supervised.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with sand and stones. Nice between the rocks with caves.

Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach but very crowded with people. I recommend going outside of high season or early in the morning. There is a paid parking lot 200 meters away. It is very large and hardly ever fills up. If you go with a camper van or van, there are shaded areas, but overnight stays are prohibited. There is a beach bar next to it to have a drink.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with a beach bar that has a nice atmosphere.
Fantastic experience: I was with my friends in 1982 in the meadow out front in a tent, beautiful place with a small beach bar to the left in a hollow. Good place to relax.

Positive experience: Beautiful beach with a climbing school on its left side. It’s a shame that the day we went, despite there being no excessive waves, they had a red flag. The lifeguards were too relaxed, as there was no yellow flag to not bother, at least to give the image of 'doing something' since it looks very bad to see both of them lounging in their chairs during their shift.
Positive experience: The place is spectacular. But we encountered the following: We have been to Playa de la Cueva in the area. We arrived at the end of the road, the visible parking was closed and the other was not sufficiently indicated, so we opted to leave it in the clearing of the beach. Thinking that in the center of the clearing we could park but not on the perimeter of it, we and all the other users, due to the lack of information, also parked. The lifeguard is more concerned with monitoring the parking and calling the police than the beach. At the lifeguard's call, two local police quickly arrived, with one taking photos and the other putting up informational stickers as if there were no tomorrow. Mr./Ms. Mayor of the municipality should clearly state with an information sign that parking is prohibited throughout the clearing and better indicate the parking areas, which by the way, once we found it, is quite spacious. What we experienced today is that there is absolute confusion when visiting. And it gives the impression that this confusion is of interest to indiscriminately fine everyone who makes the mistake, which I reiterate was the vast majority as once we found the parking, it was empty.

Fantastic experience: Very curious and transparent water
Fantastic experience: Amazing beautiful beach. With caves and passages in the cliffs. Crystal clear waters as if you were in the Caribbean but much better because they are here.
Fantastic experience: a wonderful place... extremely beautiful... I have visited it twice in summer, one of those days it rained but we had a great time in the water... it is wonderful because when the tide goes out, the caves are revealed that you can visit... there is a small bar where you can have coffee after eating so that's great, I highly recommend it... I will probably visit again this summer... it has good places to park for 4 euros all day...
Fantastic experience: We loved it. A very cozy beach. Very clean and very little visited. You also have to take into account the time of year we were there; in March, there isn't much tourism and if it rains...and it's cold...well, I guess it will be crowded in the summer. But it is definitely worth spending the day there. If you are a fishing lover, it is a good spot since it is very sheltered and protected. We will definitely return to swim.

Negative experience: Muy concurrida.

Fantastic experience: Muy grande y bonita.

Caves of the Sea Beach: Reviews
Fantastic experience: A beach with beautiful pictures, peaceful
Fantastic experience: It's amazing. I recommend going up the right hillside and seeing the strange rocks that are there.
Fantastic experience: Spectacular
Negative experience: Some shameless people at the town hall, October 10th, nobody on the beach not even the lifeguards, but I get a €200 fine for parking where the rescue team is supposed to be, which they weren't, the one who was there, the puppet of the moment who gets bored and goes to annoy the people who leave money in their land, when there was nobody on the whole beach.
Positive experience: Spectacular and original place
Fantastic experience: Beautiful place with great charm. Wild beach that can be accessed by car.
Fantastic experience: The beach of Nueva is spectacular.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful eastern beach.
Fantastic experience: Very curious and transparent water
Fantastic experience: Heartwarming moments
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach but very crowded with people. I recommend going outside of high season or early in the morning. There is a paid parking lot 200 meters away. It is very large and hardly ever fills up. If you go with a camper van or van, there are shaded areas, but overnight stays are prohibited. There is a beach bar next to it to have a drink.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful and charming beach, entering through a small cave was a surprise, beautiful landscapes and you'll get spectacular photos
Fantastic experience: One of my favorite beaches after a great trip through Asturias
Negative experience: Parking is not possible
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with low tide to walk through the arches...
Fantastic experience: A wonder. At the end of September there are also quite a few visitors, but it is worth the visit. It's best to go at low tide. There is no access for people with reduced mobility.
Fantastic experience: There are like two beaches, very beautiful and with stones. It hardly covers, great for kids.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach.
Positive experience: Beach with quite a few stones but beautiful and with a beach bar next to it.
Negative experience: Very beautiful beach, 3 euros for parking a crazy world worse than leaving a stadium!
Fantastic experience: It is a beach in a beautiful setting with abundant vegetation and lovely caves.
Fantastic experience: What a beautiful, stunning place, and if you turn your back to the sea, you have the striking Picos de Europa, something worth seeing in person and live.
Negative experience: BE CAREFUL WHEN PARKING AT THIS BEACH!!! Before passing through the tunnel that leads to this beach, there is a 'no parking' sign that indicates (on a very small sign) that parking is prohibited in the ENTIRE AREA. Inside the area, there are signs in SPECIFIC places stating that parking is not allowed and an OPEN SPACE THAT DOES NOT DISPLAY ANY SIGN. Therefore, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN the sign before passing through the tunnel, IT GIVES YOU THE IMPRESSION that parking is ALLOWED in that open space. FURTHERMORE, when we went, the PAID PARKING was CLOSED. According to the locals, traffic agents frequently come by to issue fines (of course, they know they will make a fortune off the tourists). THE TOWN HALL OF NUEVA DE LLANES IS MAKING A KILLING WITH FINES!!! No kidding. A SHAME!!!
Fantastic experience: The beach is very beautiful. The landscape makes the photos spectacular. The only downside is that the apartment is paid, otherwise you risk a fine.
Positive experience: Nice place
Negative experience: The town hall is focused on issuing fines while the signage is very poor. Better to go somewhere else.
Positive experience: The beach is fine, the problem is with LLANES as a whole, they are money grabbers, be careful where to park IN SUMMER, because it is poorly indicated where you cannot park and they give you a FINE OF €200.
Negative experience: WARNING TICKET!! The beach is very beautiful and all, but be careful when parking. You have no choice but to spend 3€ or risk getting a ticket for parking in a lot that is only open in winter. A total shame. Bravo city council of Llanes, I hope that with that revenue you leave a very beautiful city.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach to spend some time. You can take amazing photos from the caves.
Negative experience: I am outraged. I want everyone to know because the Llanes Town Hall is profiting at the expense of the tourists who go to their beaches. They charged me 200 euros for a fine that is false. They put a sign that is barely visible at the entrance of the area and further along there is a parking space where you can leave the car without bothering anyone. In reality, it is a trap. The Town Hall is clearly profiting at the expense of tourists. The beach is very beautiful, but it's not worth it like this...be careful!!
Fantastic experience: It's a beautiful beach, it has both sand and stones. When the tide is low, you can appreciate the rock formations. The waves are a bit big. There is a large parking area. There is a beach bar.
Fantastic experience: A spectacle
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with a beach bar that has a nice atmosphere.
Negative experience: The police should serve and protect, but this does not apply to the police in Llanes. What they did was go to this remote beach and fine everyone who was parked in a spot that looked completely like a parking lot. €200 each! What an abuse of power and extortion! We arrived after they left and by the way, we were not fined.
Fantastic experience: Amazing
Fantastic experience: Beautiful. Recommended. If you sleep in Nueva, you can walk there.
Negative experience: The review is for the city council that manages the area. Before reaching the cave, there is a 'no parking' sign throughout the area despite what looks like a parking lot next to the beach. A bit further away, there is a paved area that is open in high season, but at the end of June, it was closed. I don't understand why the parking lot isn't opened even if they don't charge if there isn't enough influx. A shame and a place I had to leave without visiting.
Fantastic experience: I was with my friends in 1982 in the meadow out front in a tent, beautiful place with a small beach bar to the left in a hollow. Good place to relax.
Negative experience: The beach is nice, but the town hall only wants to make money. It's better to look for another beach where you don't have to pay for parking or risk getting fined for parking in a spot that doesn't cause any trouble.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach to see, especially at low tide, and from above the cliff, there is a lovely path to the hermitage.
Fantastic experience: It is a spectacular beach, especially during low tide, when you can reach the different rock formations and the multitude of small caves formed in the rocks. One of the most photogenic I know. It is a place where I am already considering going back.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach that reaches its full splendor at low tide.
Fantastic experience: Amazing beautiful beach. With caves and passages in the cliffs. Crystal clear waters as if you were in the Caribbean but much better because they are here.
Fantastic experience: Worth the hike :)
Fantastic experience: Good place to have the intimacy we all seek.
Fantastic experience: Quiet and very beautiful beach
Fantastic experience: a wonderful place... extremely beautiful... I have visited it twice in summer, one of those days it rained but we had a great time in the water... it is wonderful because when the tide goes out, the caves are revealed that you can visit... there is a small bar where you can have coffee after eating so that's great, I highly recommend it... I will probably visit again this summer... it has good places to park for 4 euros all day...
Fantastic experience: Small beach but not very crowded, easy to get to and park, little swell if the sea is not choppy.
Fantastic experience: A place with a lot of charm
Fantastic experience: A wonderful place to at least visit
Negative experience: The beach itself is very nice, the problem is the piracy exercised by the Llanes Town Hall against visitors. Although we parked in an area that expressly says Parking, after a while, when we were already at home, we received a fine for improper parking of €200. There was no sign at all (it can be verified on Google Maps), there was only one, many meters before, on the road and covered by trees. We thought it was a mistake and called the Town Hall, and they told us that yes, the fine is correct and that 'that area disables its parking in summer.' In response to my protest, they told me not to bother appealing it since they dismiss all appeals. Just like that. I imagine about 100 cars a day, at €100 (for prompt payment), that's €10,000 they collect daily for nothing. One must be very shameless not to even leave a fine notice on the car, so that you find out a month later, hundreds of kilometers away. According to the Town Hall, therefore, that entire beach should be deserted, as the entire area for many kilometers could not be accessed by private vehicles. It is a bandit-like attitude like no other, and the worst part is that it is from a public administration. Because if they truly didn't want cars parked there, for ecological reasons or others, they should properly signal it so that access is precisely not allowed. But no, the reason is purely and simply for revenue. I plan to continue visiting Asturias and, yes, next year they will see my face at the Town Hall.
Fantastic experience: One of the best beaches you can see. Spectacular.
Positive experience: A beautiful beach, it is indeed surrounded by caves. I saw it at high tide and I still loved it. It has a completely relaxed atmosphere and in this case, we were on a route, I hope to come back and spend the day sitting quietly. It is easy and simple to get there, which adds quite a lot.
Positive experience: Spectacular beach, especially at low tide. Watch out!! The Llanes Town Hall takes advantage of the poor and unregulated signage to ticket all the cars that park in what is exactly like a parking lot. They must be doing something wrong when they ticket more than 100 cars every day. If they really wanted to prevent parking there, there are many ways to do it, but they are not interested because they are now profiting from the fines. I had to re-edit the review because Google didn't like it after many years. Maybe the situation has changed regarding the signage.
Fantastic experience: Lindaa
Fantastic experience: Beautiful. It's worth stopping to see it.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful beach, especially at low tide
Fantastic experience: A magical place to get lost. With a small beachfront venue where you can enjoy fresh dough pizzas.
Fantastic experience: I leave in love with this place
Negative experience: The beach is very beautiful, but be careful when parking in the parking lot on the right just after passing the tunnel because I just received a €200 fine for a very serious infringement according to the Llanes City Council for parking in the parking lot, which according to the council has a 'no parking' sign. Very good, Llanes City Council, I see you are keen on promoting tourism and fining for parking properly in a parking lot.
Fantastic experience: A charming beach with a peculiar entrance, we spent a day of impressive storm.
Negative experience: The beach is very beautiful, but the town hall are a bunch of crooks. There is a parking lot just before arriving on the right that has a no parking sign which we interpret means on the road (otherwise there wouldn't be so many who fell for it) not in the parking lot that is off the road, full of cars at €200. And they will say it’s not for profit. They send you a photo and without leaving any notification on the windshield. I went in August and I received it at home at the end of October. Excellent Town Hall of Llanes, you have a lot of nerve, I already saw you around there again. What you do is an excellent tourist attraction. The beach is not close to any population, you have to go intentionally; the cars do not bother anyone but the Town Hall knows where to fill its pockets every now and then. I'm sure in October they don’t go any day, but in the summer months they don’t miss a beat. Beware tourists with your wallet. And putting the sign inside the premises is ridiculous.
Positive experience: Beach with a curious access. It gets quite crowded during peak season.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful beach, we passed by around 6:30 PM and the tide was very high. I recommend going during low tide hours to enjoy the caves (you can check it out online). In the low season, you can park right next to the beach.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with sand and stones. Nice between the rocks with caves.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with caves and rock bridges on the sides of the beach.
Positive experience: Beautiful Asturian beach with crystal clear waters teeming with fish
Fantastic experience: Great
Fantastic experience: Very beautiful beach with its rocks. Bar and ice cream shop on site. Paid parking €2.50 for the day.
Fantastic experience: Very nice, it's worth it
Fantastic experience: I really liked the crystal clear water and the beach was great.
Positive experience: Very good beach. With parking nearby and a beach bar to eat or have a few ciders.
Positive experience: The beach is fine, but the access is dreadful, narrow roads, no parking, very crowded, and not prepared for so many people.
Fantastic experience: Beach bar included in this beautiful beach. A place to relax and have a drink. Very good. Just the entrance to the beach through a cave is amazing.
Fantastic experience: I recommend checking the tide table as the charm of this beach is being able to visit it at low tide. I went near high tide, and still, I found it beautiful.
Positive experience: Beach flanked by cliffs with caves, very beautiful.
Fantastic experience: It is essential to go always at low tide. Spectacular.
Fantastic experience: It is a paradise with crystal clear waters and no waves. There are areas with large rocks at the entrance, but it is beautiful and not crowded, at least when I went...
Positive experience: Very quiet beach, spectacular views of the caves. Dogs are not allowed. There's a beach bar very close to the beach.
Positive experience: The place is very beautiful and perfect for walking, and even climbing. The bad thing is that it is somewhat complicated to get to Nueva Llanes, but apart from that it is very well maintained and it is gorgeous.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach in Nueva de Llanes. It has some walls where people usually practice climbing. In summer, the beach bar is usually quite good, although sometimes the music is too loud. The only problem is the access during the summer season, too many cars on a narrow road where people park poorly and uncomfortable bottlenecks form.
Positive experience: Completely overcrowded and not very clean when we were there.
Positive experience: Beautiful calm and a little bit cold !! Charges 2,5€ for Parking and the bar is a bit expensive(Bocadillo for 8€)
Fantastic experience: Favourite beach in North West Spain (admittedly we haven't visited all of them!). Beautiful, relaxed with a lovely beach bar and restaurant under the trees. The squid with potatoes and 'Zamburinas' we had there were up there with the best we had on our 4 week trip.
Fantastic experience: If you are driving through the region, do not miss this beach. We went on a Monday morning mid-July and it wasn't at all crowded. Magical spot. We parked before the tunnel and walked 5 minutes.
Fantastic experience: Great beach for swimming and because of the underlying undulations of the sand the waves break again and again.
