Postiguet Beach
Information
Playa del Postiguet is a popular urban beach located in the heart of Alicante, offering extensive golden sand and a picturesque promenade lined with palm trees and restaurants. It’s an ideal place for swimming and sunbathing, featuring warm waters that can reach up to 25°C in summer.
While many visitors praise the beach for its beauty and the vibrant atmosphere, some express concerns about cleanliness, noting that it can get quite crowded and messy during peak season. Additionally, the presence of jellyfish and occasional seaweed can detract from the swimming experience. Despite these drawbacks, the stunning views of the Santa Barbara Castle and the availability of nearby amenities make it a well-frequented spot.
- Pros: Central location, clean sandy beach, plenty of restaurants and bars, lively environment.
- Cons: Very crowded, some areas may have algae and jellyfish, cleanliness issues.

Positive experience: Postiguet Beach is lovely, the water is very warm in the summer when we went. The temperature of the water went up to 25°C and when we went in for the first time, we were amazed! There are water fountains at the exit so that you can rinse off your shoes or feet if you have lots of sand on them. Parking is quite tricky because there are not many parking spaces. There is parking, but you'll be lucky to find a spot because when I walked by, there were no free spaces and there was a long queue with people honking their car horns. The sand on the beach is really hot and quite tricky to walk on. Near the end of the beach on the right side, the water seems to get dirty for some reason. If you walk further to the left, the water becomes clearer and better for swimming. Yesterday when we went to the beach, (10/08/24) there were lots of jellyfish in the water. They were dead jellyfish, but watch out for them because they might still sting you. (I don't really know how it works, but just giving you a warning.) Conclusion: The beach is a nice warm place in the city of Alicante, the water is really warm, and you have to watch out for jellyfish! I really recommend this beach if you are in Alicante or coming here for a visit; it is a good experience.
Fantastic experience: Free public beach. ✅ Very soft sand. ❗There is a possibility of encountering seaweed in the sea. ✅ Clean beach (there are enough garbage bins and they are collected regularly) ✅ With enough fountains, it is possible to leave the beach with clean feet. ❗Finding a parking space can be a challenge but the cost is not high (30 cent/hour) ✅ Very nice walking path next to the beach. (especially in the evening) ✅ Lockers for valuables (unfortunately theft is an issue)
Fantastic experience: Spacious beach, good access for being in the city center.
Fantastic experience: Good beach with all services. For being a city beach, it is quite well maintained and clean. There are people, but it's not overwhelming. Several hospitality venues around and paid parking.
Fantastic experience: Large beach with amenities, next to the esplanade, the blue zone parking is very crowded

Positive experience: I love this beach for its proximity, but it is very dirty, and it needs more bathrooms (considering the number of people who visit the beach, especially during the peak tourist season, and obviously, being a tourist city, we need to take care of these aspects). Also, it would be appreciated if the water fountains worked properly when leaving the beach.

Positive experience: Lovely beach calm water nice soft sand plenty of sunbeds lovely beach side cafe nice staff. Lovely spot to see the sunrise . One negative are the toilets they are filthy shouldn’t be opened look forward to return
Negative experience: We visited Playa del Postiguet on Wednesday 18th June 2025, having seen online that sunbeds and parasols were available to hire. However, after walking the entire length of the beach, we found none. A nearby bar confirmed they weren’t out yet due to the season, which is ridiculous considering it was 35°C and the beach was packed. We had planned for a beach day, so we reluctantly bought a parasol and stand from a beach vendor. The beach was so crowded we struggled to find a space. The sand was burning hot, and the sea was really disappointing—you had to wade through thick black seaweed and even further out, the water was full of plastic and more seaweed. The beach itself was littered with rubbish, including broken glass—I nearly stood on part of a beer bottle. It felt dirty and poorly maintained, definitely not relaxing. Honestly, wouldn’t return. Needs serious attention and proper facilities before it deserves the good reviews.
Fantastic experience: Located in the heart of Alicante, at the foot of Santa Bárbara Castle, it is bordered by a seaside promenade filled with palm trees and features a wide stretch of golden sand and calm waters. The beach is an icon for the locals and is mentioned in some popular songs, the most well-known being 'La manta al coll.' In addition, its views of the southern slope of Mount Benacantil allow one to appreciate the rocky silhouette known as 'the Moor's face.' The eastern end of the beach, near the La Marina station and the Vistahermosa neighborhood, is traditionally called Playa del Cocó and is the point from where fireworks are launched after the Hogueras de San Juan festivities. It is worth noting that after the completion of the city's center renovations, the beach regained its blue flag.

Fantastic experience: Simply fantastic! We were there in July; swimming in the warm sea after 10 PM; a dream! Illuminated sandy beach, lively nightlife... would love to go again

Fantastic experience: Very cool Postiguet beach ️ It’s really easy to find the Hubbard, restaurants, groceries transportation. I stayed in Alicante for 4 days, I enjoyed the amazing old town and walk from the apartment only 5 minutes to arrive at the beach ️ Very easy to find the beach. There are many shops, restaurants and transportation.
Fantastic experience: Without a doubt the busiest beach in Alicante... on one side you can see the Santa Barbara Castle and on the other side you have the port, the promenade is also close along with a wide variety of bars and restaurants, the Melia hotel is super close so definitely a great plan for the summer since at this beach at 00:00hrs after the bonfires there is a fireworks show.
Positive experience: It's quite clean and well-maintained considering it's an urban beach and is usually packed. There are several beach bars where you can have a drink or something to eat.
Fantastic experience: wonderful beach, the sea water is clear. There are restaurants and drinks available on the beach. The beach has a fantastic view of the Santa Bárbara castle.
Fantastic experience: Lovely beach right in the middle of town, many restaurants to get snack/food/drinks from. Two sunbeds and a sun umbrella =27eur

Fantastic experience: An amazing beach...super clean and with a lot of security from the police patrolling the beach.
Fantastic experience: It's fine for passing the time, but after a few minutes you lose the desire to be there. The water has a lot of seaweed, but we can't change that; insecurity is an important issue here.
Positive experience: A beach located near the Town Hall of Alicante and its old town, on Av. de Juan Bautista Lafora, whose pedestrian walkway is called Paseo de Gómiz. It can be accessed from Calle Virgen del Socorro, via an elevated pedestrian walkway that takes us almost to the sand. It is named after a gate in the old wall of Alicante, called El Postigo. As a historical note, the beach used to have bathing houses, which were raised on iron columns driven into the sand and set in a hydraulic masonry foundation for stability. Some remained stable all year long like: 'La Alhambra, Diana, La Alianza, and Madrid,' while others could be dismantled such as: 'La Confianza, La Estrella, La Rosa, Delicias, Guillermo, Almirante, and Florida.' The last to disappear were La Alhambra and La Alianza in 1966, due to the collapse of a balcony, which resulted in a terrible accident. In June, after the Hogueras de San Juan festivities end, from the 25th to the 29th, one can enjoy a fireworks competition every night from the sand. The beach begins after passing the port promenade, first locating the Meliá Hotel and at its end, La Estación de La Marina (TRAM). It is a beach that has all kinds of services: 'Restrooms, foot showers, hammocks, an area for people with reduced mobility, a play area, etc.......' For me specifically, it is a beach that is too crowded with people, especially in the summer season.
Positive experience: Beautiful.. it can improve cleanliness and security.. greater opening hours for restrooms and more of them... totally insufficient in season
Positive experience: Good beach in the centre of Alicante. However, it loses a star because of how crowded it is when it’s hot. In the evening it’s almost empty some days. This is normal for Spain in the summer season, I went in May. Even walking further down the beach there are still masses of people. Water isn’t the nicest Spain has, with some algae and seaweed, but I try not to complain too much. It’s nice to swim in though to cool down, waves are small and it’s lifeguarded so safe for kids. There’s a promenade, shops, bars, restaurants. Sometimes people will try and sell massages or sangrias but not too often and persistently so not too much to complain about. Overall I would come back! But if you like calm places to relax with fewer people or not so busy and loud, this beach isn’t the place for you.

Positive experience: Lovely beach calm water nice soft sand plenty of sunbeds lovely beach side cafe nice staff. Lovely spot to see the sunrise . One negative are the toilets they are filthy shouldn’t be opened look forward to return
Negative experience: Very dissapointed. Water/sea is very dirty, blury, and I didnt's see anyone cleaning it. It"s get even worse as the day goes by. Also, there's not single shower, option for sunbeds and umbrellas (even though I kind of liked this, it's good to know if you are planing to come). Toilets are also very dirty. The only good thing is that you are 10min walking from center of Alicante. Comparing to Benidorm beaches (Poniente and Levante, and also San Juan beach in Alicante) this one is really bad in every single sence

Negative experience: Completely different from the previous photos posted. In September 2023, the beach had black water, absorbents, and rats. We ran away.
Negative experience: Spiaggia grande in pieno centro.

Postiguet Beach: Reviews
Positive experience: Lovely beach calm water nice soft sand plenty of sunbeds lovely beach side cafe nice staff. Lovely spot to see the sunrise . One negative are the toilets they are filthy shouldn’t be opened look forward to return
Negative experience: Nice for a city beach. Busy. 2025 summer sun lounger prices: €24 for 2 during the day or discounted rate after 5pm is €18 for 2 sun loungers. (They start tidying up the loungers from 7pm and by approx. 7:30pm you will need to give back the lounger)
Negative experience: Very dissapointed. Water/sea is very dirty, blury, and I didnt's see anyone cleaning it. It"s get even worse as the day goes by. Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, beautiful sunrises and spacious, with external walkways for exercising by the sea.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful
Fantastic experience: Very clean and safe beach.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach, sandy, wide, playgrounds for children, gentle descent to the sea and additionally, it's right in the city center, so there are places to eat around.
Fantastic experience: Mandatory walk
Fantastic experience: It was a bit cold now in December, but I went with my uncles to walk the little dog and it's very relaxing to be strolling on the beach, and we have some tapas next to us.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach!
Fantastic experience: Clean and safe
Fantastic experience: This looked huge, had clean waters and many people. Great starting point for visiting the castle.
Fantastic experience: A good, wide, sandy beach. No infrastructure, no showers, changing rooms, or toilets. Lots of people.
Fantastic experience: I like the beach
Fantastic experience: Beautiful urban beach with a view of the magnificent castle with the Head of a Moor. Clean, sunny, gentle entry into the water.
Negative experience: The Mediterranean beach is monotonous and boring, the washing facilities are insufficient, and the toilets are super dirty.
Negative experience: Very small, with a lot of dirt
Fantastic experience: Divine beach, the water is clear and the Mediterranean restaurant, the best. The food, the service, the speed, everything.
Fantastic experience: I live in Alicante and often walk by Postiguet. There is always a lively atmosphere and a good place to train calisthenics or play volleyball.
Negative experience: Its location is really good, but it's so crowded that it's really unpleasant. The litter left by people is quite disgusting, everyone's music is super loud, I do not recommend it for a relaxing day.
Fantastic experience: Linda
Fantastic experience: Very characteristic beach, clean and well-serviced
Fantastic experience: Always too crowded and the water a bit dirty, but we know that this beach is like that.
Positive experience: Nice beach, but very crowded.
Positive experience: A beach with a stunning view of the Santa Barbara castle, the water is very good but very dirty! There are a lot of seaweeds everywhere, which makes swimming less enjoyable.
Fantastic experience: The beach is very beautiful, especially in winter. In summer, there's hardly any room to drop an apple, there are so many people. Personally, I don't really like that kind of vacation. There are many cafes nearby, street musicians, and so on. Overall, it's a very nice place, I recommend visiting!
Fantastic experience: It's great, in the same city, well connected, always well maintained, and the water is perfect.
Fantastic experience: This beach is one of my favorites, it is suitable for children ....

Conclusion: The beach is a nice warm place in the city of Alicante, the water is really warm, and you have to watch out for jellyfish! I really recommend this beach if you are in Alicante or coming here for a visit; it is a good experience.
Fantastic experience: Very pleasant. The only place where a pitcher of beer costs you 2 euros and a hundred montaditos. I can't wait to return to Alicante.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful, clean beach. At night, a view of the beautifully lit Santa Bárbara Castle.
Positive experience: Nice beach if you can avoid the fried egg jellyfish (it stung me!) and the brown water near the shore - algae? Idk. We went during the peak season so lots of people and especially old ladies with questionable wardrobe choices. But the water was warm, in some parts perfectly clear and lovely. There are better beaches.
Fantastic experience: Simply fantastic! We were there in July; swimming in the warm sea after 10 PM; a dream! Illuminated sandy beach, lively nightlife... would love to go again
Positive experience: Too crowded for my taste, but its location is great as it is by the edge of the city. I prefer less crowded beaches.
Fantastic experience: I always enjoy this beach during my visits to Alicante. It's close to the center, has a pleasant atmosphere, and everyone is in their own world. The water is neither cold nor hot, with a consistently pleasant temperature in summer. There are a few seaweeds in the water sometimes, which I don't like, but it's not excessive either. In my opinion, the area farthest from the Melia is better. The sunbeds and umbrellas for August 2024 cost €27 (2 sunbeds, 1 umbrella) with an extra €9 for an additional sunbed.
Fantastic experience: Very nice beach for being central, crowded (packed) with people in season that should be cleaner. Aside from that, beautiful.
Positive experience: Beautiful and clean beach
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach with a promenade and a good selection of restaurants
Fantastic experience: An amazing beach...super clean and with a lot of security from the police patrolling the beach.
Positive experience: It's quite clean and well-maintained considering it's an urban beach and is usually packed. There are several beach bars where you can have a drink or something to eat.
Fantastic experience: Good beach with all services. For being a city beach, it is quite well maintained and clean. There are people, but it's not overwhelming. Several hospitality venues around and paid parking.
Positive experience: Nice beach, warm water and with few waves. Unfortunately, there are too many people during the holiday season.
Negative experience: Nothing exceptional. Sunbeds at 27 euros for 2 people for a sea full of seaweed.
Negative experience: Crowded beach. With jellyfish and algae. It's worth traveling to San Juan.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful, very calm water. Family-friendly atmosphere
Negative experience: Beach full of pickpockets... thieves. They steal very quickly and use all tactics to steal, and the police do nothing. I don't know why this beach has 4 stars.
Positive experience: A beautiful and quite long beach. There are some lockers to leave your things, but they cost €2/hr.
Fantastic experience: Quiet beach with warm water in the summer, excellent for enjoying with family.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic beach
Fantastic experience: Pleasant urban square, nice sand, clean water.
Positive experience: The sea is not great but lovely beach
Fantastic experience: Great despite the presence of seaweed! This inconvenience is offset by the presence of mermaids.
Fantastic experience: Warm water, clean beach, sun is blazing, happy child.
Negative experience: The sea at this beach is not transparent at all, it looks very dirty. Otherwise, it's a quiet place, but certainly among the things to see in Alicante, the sea is not one of them, it's better to move to the surroundings.
Fantastic experience: Good beach but during weekends it’s extremely crowded. If you want to take a sunbed it will cost 9€ + 9€ for umbrella. No option to pay by card.
Fantastic experience: Excellent beach in the city of Alicante.
Fantastic experience: The beach is one of the most visited in Alicante, good.
Fantastic experience: Large beach with amenities, next to the esplanade, the blue zone parking is very crowded
Positive experience: Clean beach, but it fills up quickly with people, better to wake up early to go.
Fantastic experience: I love it. Crystal clear waters, cool temperature, coves, and a very close historic district.
Positive experience: It's good but it gets quite crowded in summer. I have been to some nearby and they are not as crowded.
Positive experience: The water was very dirty with algae, we went again and it was super clear, good temperature, and without waves, so it was perfect.
Fantastic experience: Very nice sandy beach at the city center, but very crowded. However we loved it!
Fantastic experience: The beach is really nice. It's spacious and you have plenty of room to relax without any issues. The only downside is that with the heat being so intense, there are jellyfish in the sea…
Fantastic experience: wonderful beach, the sea water is clear. There are restaurants and drinks available on the beach. The beach has a fantastic view of the Santa Bárbara castle.
Positive experience: Nice beach but I came here on a Sunday and it was just way too busy for me and my family. Next time I'll go during the week when most people are working.
Fantastic experience: It's fine for passing the time, but after a few minutes you lose the desire to be there. The water has a lot of seaweed, but we can't change that; insecurity is an important issue here.
Positive experience: Nice beach, it enters slowly and the sand is fine, there are no stones. In summer it tends to be crowded and when we went it was a bit murky.
Fantastic experience: Small urban beach, quite crowded, but pleasant, with good areas around to grab a drink.
Fantastic experience: Great place
Positive experience: It can get crowded, but it's still quite good. There are free public restrooms right by the marker.
Fantastic experience: Great beach. I spend time there every day. I invite anyone interested to the beach, just to chat.
Fantastic experience: Fabulous beach, very clean. Nice sandy walk into sea no rocks seaweed etc.
Fantastic experience: The beach is located in the center of the city of Alicante, at the foot of the Santa Barbara Castle. The sea is shallow, the beach is clean, there are cafes, sports facilities, restrooms, and foot showers.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful beach in the city center, with direct bus access, secure, and very well equipped. It's not so common.
Fantastic experience: It's wonderful to be able to swim in the sea in the middle of the city, but what's interesting is that there's no corn seller, bagel vendor, or ice cream man on the beach; no one is trying to sell you anything. No one is staring at you. People of all colors, cultures, and social backgrounds are equal here.
Positive experience: Nice beach close to the center. Very crowded in the season. I toilet.
Positive experience: It is a beach with a lot of seaweed.
Fantastic experience: Water was clean and plenty of space
Negative experience: The beach is not the best but it is beautiful to be in front of the castle and so close to the center. It's a shame that the bathrooms say from 10 AM to 8 PM and that's a lie. They never open them!
Fantastic experience: Lovely beach right in the middle of town, many restaurants to get snack/food/drinks from. Two sunbeds and a sun umbrella =27eur
Positive experience: There are usually a lot of people, it's the only beach in the center of Alicante and it tends to be very crowded. It has some bars but the most important thing is that it has good access on foot and by public transport. There is a small blue zone parking that is nearby but it is always full, and there are a couple of paid public parking lots very close but they are not cheap at all.
Positive experience: I was there about two years ago for the first and only time at this beach. I have been through Alicante many times because I think it is a very special city. That day we went to Santa Bárbara Castle and took the elevator that goes directly to the beach. The location is perfect, the beach is not bad. But it was very dirty; while setting up the umbrella, we found a used diaper buried in the sand, as well as cigarette butts around, and some beer cans, plastics. We looked for another less dirty place to sit, even throwing away the 'gift' as a contribution to the care of the place, but the feeling of displeasure and rejection stays with you. It's a pity that there are such dirty people ruining such a special place. I will always return to Alicante whenever I can, I love it, but I doubt I will swim in this beach again.
Positive experience: The sandcastles are spectacular, it's a shame there are so many people and you can really notice it in the water, but it's very beautiful. During our visit, we could let the kids play with the sandcastles while we watched them from the beach bar, hehe. It also has water showers to clean your feet, which is always nice.
Fantastic experience: wonderful beach ️
Fantastic experience: Spectacular beach, I recommend it.
Positive experience: Pretty beach
Fantastic experience: Large beach, loungers if possible
Fantastic experience: Superb beach! Very pleasant
Fantastic experience: Beautiful sandy beach in the heart of the city.
Positive experience: Lovely, long bath beach with a promenade.
Fantastic experience: Good time for November! 25°!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach near the city center of Alicante. You will find parking nearby, restrooms, and areas for sports as well. Enjoy it.
