Gulpiyuri Beach
Information
Gulpiyuri Beach, located near Llanes, is a captivating hidden gem known for its unique features and picturesque surroundings. Nestled beneath steep hills, this tiny beach is characterized by its interior location and the way it connects to the sea through a subterranean cave. Visitors appreciate the stunning views of the Cantabrian landscape but warn that it can become overcrowded during peak seasons.
Some highlights of Gulpiyuri Beach include:
- Beautiful Surroundings: The beach is set in a stunning natural environment with cliffs and green meadows.
- Unique Experience: A fascinating beach that showcases how the sea fills this lagoon-like area during high tide.
- Access Considerations: It requires a short walk from paid parking, and visitors are advised to check tide schedules for the best experience.
However, there are some drawbacks:
- The beach's small size can lead to overcrowding, especially in the summer months.
- Parking options are limited and can incur hefty fines if rules are not followed.
- Several visitors expressed disappointment when visiting during low tide, noting that the experience may not be as captivating without sufficient water.
Overall, while Gulpiyuri may not suit everyone due to its popularity and access issues, it remains a lovely spot worth a visit for its natural beauty and unique characteristics.

Fantastic experience: Very beautiful and secluded, the access is not very good but it's worth it to see such an interesting place.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful natural geographical accident, to access there is a one-way road, to exit you have to go through a small tunnel under the train tracks. Be careful if you go with a tall vehicle. Some campers may manage to pass in height, but motorhomes won't make it at all. If you go with a camper or motorhome, it's better to park on the other side of the tracks.
Positive experience: The truth is I expected something more. Considering that you have to park relatively far and walk down, I don't find it very interesting.
Negative experience: Disappointing, it's really not worth coming here, you'll see when you come. I was just passing by, but don't come on purpose and pay for parking for a pond full of weeds and small.
Negative experience: Be careful where you park, €200 fine. It’s a 600-meter walk to see a puddle. Right at the entrance, there is a small concrete slope about 10 meters long with a lot of gravel: DANGEROUS, ACCIDENTS EVERY DAY, and the town hall doesn’t fix it. My wife broke her leg, and the ambulance that took her said they had been there about 15 times that week. Be careful to walk on the sand as close to the right as possible, do not step on the concrete.

Negative experience: Una cosa son las fotos idílicas y otra la realidad. Lamentablemente se ha convertido en un sumidero de postureo, drones y playa colapsada. De igual manera que se retira los excrementos de los perros, deberían llevarse los papeles.

Positive experience: A very beautiful and magical place, you have to be lucky and go when there is high tide because otherwise you can't appreciate the natural beauty of this place. We could only see a little bit of water coming through the cliff.
Fantastic experience: A very special beach, with crystal clear water and fine sand. Surrounded by vegetation and cliffs. This cove forms a tunnel between the mountain that connects with the Cantabrian Sea, making it a very beautiful and unique beach. During peak seasons, it is very crowded.
Fantastic experience: Natural Heritage! A secluded beach, a spectacle as the tide rises and fills its white sand. You can't reach it by car, you have to walk a bit, but it's worth it.
Positive experience: Very beautiful, but a shepherd told us that it is not a natural beach and that the sand is replenished every once in a while because the waves take it away, but the surroundings are worth visiting for a walk or to sunbathe on the beach.

Negative experience: It's a shame but there is no park-and-ride or paid parking for motorhomes to park. We don't want it to be right at the beach. But there is no option at all. So in the end, we have to pass by. Little business vision for an audience that eats in restaurants and shops at the supermarkets in the towns they pass by.
Positive experience: We stopped by out of curiosity having seen the place on Tik Tok. At 17.00 on a cloudy Sunday afternoon it was quite busy there, so I can only imagine what it would be like at midday on a sunny day. I think it would be fun but during the summer months there's always going to be a lot of people and while it's impressive, I myself would prefer to go to one of Asturias other fine beaches. Best option for parking without fear of receiving a fine is to drive right down the bottom of the track and pay the 3€. Between the parking area (where incidentally you can walk to another beach from) and Gulpiyuri there's a chiringuito where you can purchase refreshments.
Negative experience: Sehenswerter Ort. Überraschend unfreundliche Strandbar Pächter Es gibt genügend Gute Alternativen in der Umgebung.

Fantastic experience: Hidden, a beach made by the force of the sea, which runs through a cave and forms the beach. If you go in the summer, you will find little water; I went in December and it was like that, very beautiful and the water cold.
Fantastic experience: A marvel of nature. The best is when the tide rises, and you can enjoy it better. With low tide, you can reach the very mouth of the water.
Negative experience: A total disappointment. A dirty bath with the main characteristic that the water passes through the rocks. We didn't feel like swimming.
Positive experience: Perhaps the expectations were too high. Nice but nothing spectacular, a bit dirty and with very changing tides, very small and overcrowded. Parking at €3 shared between the two beaches.
Fantastic experience: A spectacular beach. The best time to go is during high tide; otherwise, it might not have much water. It's worth visiting. The parking situation is signposted, and you can't park just anywhere. If you go a bit further ahead, there's a large parking lot (I think it's a football field or something) that charges 3 euros. We parked there, and no one was there to collect payment (I went in September). Walking, you'll also see a really cool train track where I took several pictures.

Negative experience: Spectacular place, but don't go in the summer months, you will have to put your towel on top of someone and to bathe you have to queue among children with mats and body surfboards.
Fantastic experience: A magical place, recommended 100x100. If you want to swim, you'll have to wait for the tide to rise. Very close is Santorino beach with waves for surfers and for photography lovers... a spectacular beach.

Gulpiyuri Beach: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Beautiful and unique
Fantastic experience: Spectacular place
Fantastic experience: Although it is very small to enjoy it as a beach, it is a good place to enjoy its natural charm.
Fantastic experience: Very cool place
Fantastic experience: Hidden, a beach made by the force of the sea, which runs through a cave and forms the beach. If you go in the summer, you will find little water; I went in December and it was like that, very beautiful and the water cold.
Fantastic experience: Beach with a lot of charm. And looking out from the cliff amazes with its beauty.
Positive experience: Really very charming and amazing this beach. Its uniqueness and intimacy seduced us! Thank you for this discovery.
Negative experience: The beach is nice but be careful with the fines!!! Two fines in the same place with 15 minutes in between!!! Thankfully I parked the car properly so it wouldn't get in the way. Shameful from the council of Llanes.
Fantastic experience: When we went it wasn't the best day but it is quite curious.
Fantastic experience: Unfortunately, it was dry when we went (due to the time), but it is a very beautiful place. We met a couple from the area with their little dog Luna, very friendly, and they took us on a tour of nearby places that may be little known but are definitely spectacular.
Fantastic experience: A marvel of nature. The best is when the tide rises, and you can enjoy it better. With low tide, you can reach the very mouth of the water.
Positive experience: The truth is I expected something more. Considering that you have to park relatively far and walk down, I don't find it very interesting.
Positive experience: It's important to check the tide schedules beforehand, because if the tide is low there is no water for swimming (as shown in the photo). It's a small and unique place not suitable for beach days with a lot of people.
Fantastic experience: Nice place
Fantastic experience: The small bay is very similar to the one on Gozo Island.
Fantastic experience: Charming place. But always очень crowded.
Negative experience: A total disappointment. A dirty bath with the main characteristic that the water passes through the rocks. We didn't feel like swimming.
Negative experience: Disappointing, it's really not worth coming here, you'll see when you come. I was just passing by, but don't come on purpose and pay for parking for a pond full of weeds and small.
Negative experience: I expected something better. The beach itself is worthless. What we really enjoyed was the walk from Antolín beach to get here. When we arrived, we saw a little path that we took to see the views of the whole sea. The cliff is spectacular, the beach itself... not much at all.
Fantastic experience: I recommend going early to avoid overcrowding. A beautiful place, but perhaps overrated. Other nearby beaches seemed more interesting in terms of scenery.
Negative experience: We didn't even get to see it because the crowd of people coming from the parking lot was ridiculous. It looked like a stampede of wildebeests, and we ran away. The little beach must be beautiful for sure, but with so many people, I'm sure it's easier to walk in the middle of a major festivity.
Positive experience: There is very little free parking, if not none, and the paid parking costs €3. However, if you go later, around 6:30-7:00 PM, you might find free parking (at least that happened to me when I went). Also, I recommend going at that time because there are a lot fewer people; during high season, it's terrible since it's such a small beach.
Negative experience: You don't miss anything if you don't go. It's a beautiful landscape, but like all of Asturias, the beach is crowded, so in the photo, you're going to see more bellies than plants. Furthermore, the parking is far away and they charge you €3 even if you're just going to buy a coffee. Anyway, don't go and enjoy a thousand better places.
Positive experience: It's curious to visit, but very small for swimming. The parking is paid (3€).
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach. A gem of the Cantabrian Sea.
Negative experience: You arrive, take the photo, and leave. It's fine for taking the photo because of the curiosity of the place, but nothing more.
Positive experience: Good access to the beach. You just have to go see it when the sea is high.
Fantastic experience: Curious beach to see, very small, but beautiful.
Negative experience: With a €3 parking fee to see something that is completely crowded. There are much prettier nearby beaches of the same style.
Negative experience: This beach is the biggest rip-off in Asturias, overcrowded and hyper-degraded. If you still decide to visit it, follow this signage to the letter if you don't want to leave with a souvenir postcard in the form of a complaint report.
Positive experience: Curious beach that forms with high tide. The best part of the place, without a doubt, is its surroundings, more than the mentioned beach, with beautiful views of the Cantabrian Sea.
Positive experience: Perhaps the expectations were too high. Nice but nothing spectacular, a bit dirty and with very changing tides, very small and overcrowded. Parking at €3 shared between the two beaches.
Positive experience: It's a nice place in an even more beautiful setting, but one thing is the photos we see on social media and another is what we actually find. Overcrowding is the word that defines it... the photo doesn't define what you really encounter. It's a shame because it's beautiful. 4 stars for how beautiful it is... but I would give it a 1 because when it's so full, it doesn't even allow for a photo.
Positive experience: If the sea is low, it is not worth walking from the parking lot to the beach.
Fantastic experience: Very small beach, but that's what gives it its charm. It's a unique place worth seeing. First, check when the tide is in - that's the only time there's water there. Attractive surroundings, and a bit further away, a view from above of the open ocean. It's better to park earlier, on the street and take a walk.
Positive experience: As a picturesque beach very nice, but for spending a day at the beach not.
Fantastic experience: Spectacular inland beach, don't miss it.
Fantastic experience: Great, a very mystical place to visit. Make sure to go at high tide so you can see the beach full, although if you go at low tide you can stroll around the rocks.
Negative experience: Absolutely crowded with people during peak season. It's a curious formation, and the cave through which the water enters is accessible at low tide. Interesting, but it's not worth it at all unless it's off-season when the beach isn't full of people.
Positive experience: A 10-minute walk from the parking lot to the beach. You pay €3. Plenty of parking space, no problem. On the way, you find a beach bar to grab a snack. The beach is nice, perfect for taking a swim and not much else. An interesting place.
Fantastic experience: The smallest beach in Spain and the most expensive, €200 fine. Many cars park on the sides and all get fined. Apparently, there is a sign at the entrance that says 'no parking'. It is clear that neither I nor the 10 cars saw it. I recommend parking in the parking lot. Now, the beach is worth it 100%. First check the tide; if it's low tide, there is no water and if it's high tide, there is water. There were people going through the hole, but I find it very dangerous considering the tide rising.
Negative experience: Poor access, you are forced to turn and park in a parking lot, from which you then have to walk along the shoulder to get to the beach. We didn't stop and went to another one.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely unique
Fantastic experience: A beach different from all others, but equally fantastic. In the middle of fields, out of nowhere, this mini beach appears, where the sea comes between rocks. A must-visit, no doubt!!!
Fantastic experience: What a marvel of nature!!!
Negative experience: Spectacular place, but don't go in the summer months, you will have to put your towel on top of someone and to bathe you have to queue among children with mats and body surfboards.
Negative experience: The parking is not well marked; if you stop on the side of a lane, the local police passes by with a revenue-collecting eagerness and fines you €200. Look for the parking.
Negative experience: I expected it to be bigger, more beautiful in photos than in person. I wouldn't recommend it for a day at the beach.
Fantastic experience: A magical place, recommended 100x100. If you want to swim, you'll have to wait for the tide to rise. Very close is Santorino beach with waves for surfers and for photography lovers... a spectacular beach.
Positive experience: A small beach located in Llanes, it was declared a natural monument in 2001. I recommend bringing water shoes since there are sharp rocks in the water that are hard to see. BE CAREFUL, park in the parking lot (for €3 you can leave it all day) as they issue €200 fines. I give it 4 stars because it is so small that it fills up very quickly.
Negative experience: It's a protected area and you can't park your car. I called the Llanes tourist office and they told me that if you leave the car beside the road, even though there are no signs prohibiting it, you will be fined. The parking, which is a cleared area, closes at the end of June (it seems that if they don't make money, they don't want to open it or allow visitors to the area). The option was to park at San Antolín beach, half an hour walk to the beach one way and another half back to visit it. I was very dissatisfied with my visit to this area.
Negative experience: The beach is not worth it, especially since we went during low tide and it's quite ugly. If you see an old man with a stick telling you that you can't drive down to the beach, just ignore him; you can definitely drive the car down there. Otherwise, you're not going to pay €3 to stay for 1 minute and then walk 15 minutes to reach a small puddle.
Negative experience: The fine they are talking about hurts, but no one mentions the €3 that a football team charges you for leaving the car in the sun, in a meadow, almost 1km from the beach. I understand that you have to take advantage of tourism, but another thing is to abuse it. The beach and the cliffs are beautiful, but I wouldn't go back and certainly wouldn't recommend it.
Fantastic experience: The truth is that the place is wonderful. I suppose that with good weather and during high season, it must be crowded, but we went on a cloudy and rainy day before July, and the truth is that we were able to enjoy it. You have to leave the car about 10 minutes away from the beach (be careful because from what we read, they fine you if you park past the no vehicles sign that is not agricultural). The place is interesting and worth a visit.
Positive experience: It was our great illusion, but upon arrival it was empty. You cannot park down there and you have to walk about 10 minutes.
Fantastic experience: SPECTACULAR. I recommend going early and enjoying the exclusivity of having the beach empty for yourself.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful beach. You cannot access it by car.
Fantastic experience: A very nice place, the access is a bit bad
Positive experience: Access is very difficult. It's interesting to see at different tide times.
Negative experience: Beware of fines. The town hall of Llanes gives fines in every place, dirt roads to the beaches, etc. It's incredible, I visited for 1 day and I received three fines of €200 each.
Fantastic experience: It was easy to get to the beach. Easy trail to follow but not signposted.
Fantastic experience: You shouldn't pay too much attention to the GPS because it takes you on roads that you shouldn't enter with the car... Interesting beach, nothing more.
Fantastic experience: Natural Heritage! A secluded beach, a spectacle as the tide rises and fills its white sand. You can't reach it by car, you have to walk a bit, but it's worth it.
Positive experience: Interior beach, nice for the environment it creates, curious, but not a must-visit. Depending on the tide, you can see it in all its glory or practically empty. The big downside is parking, there is none available and most is prohibited. On the other hand, the exit from the area by car is a bumpy path, so be prepared to go carefully if you don't have a high vehicle (and if you do, go slowly). Conclusion, if you are really excited about it, visit it; if not, think about the negative aspects, as they may weigh on you when deciding to visit.
Positive experience: Very beautiful, but a shepherd told us that it is not a natural beach and that the sand is replenished every once in a while because the waves take it away, but the surroundings are worth visiting for a walk or to sunbathe on the beach.
Positive experience: Difficult access to get to it and to go down. On the other hand, the charm of its originality.
Negative experience: We had a huge disappointment when we arrived and saw that it looks more like a small pond than a beach.
Fantastic experience: Place with natural charm
Negative experience: BE VERY CAREFUL, it’s something to think about. Minimum parking area in pitiful conditions (at most 10 cars) and above all, when you leave, you encounter a maneuvering road that even tanks don't dare to use, with huge potholes, not to mention holes that are three pairs of noses deep. And finally, you reach a tunnel that barely allows a car to pass, let alone a van, with an exit onto a road without visibility. In summary, it's something to consider with a lot of care.
Positive experience: A very cool natural setting. I recommend that you get informed before going about the tides; you will enjoy it more if you coincide with high tide, if it's low you will see nothing but a hole in the sand.
Positive experience: It is one of the tourist attractions in Asturias, and being Asturian I had never been. I had the happy idea of not checking the tides and it was going down, so there was hardly any water, so I will repeat on another occasion. The way is difficult to access by car, so it's better to park in the designated area and walk a few meters to the beach.
Positive experience: When the tide is low, it's nothing more than a sandpit, so my advice is to look it up.
Fantastic experience: It's worth going to see this beach, the path is short and affordable.
Fantastic experience: Super beautiful and calm.
Negative experience: IMPORTANT!!! There is no parking, the entrance road from the motorway is ruined, they have put up posts to limit the little parking that was available and prohibition signs that the police use for ticketing, it is impossible to park and that on the edge of the road in a bad way, they have set a one-way direction to exit and you have to go down a damaged road with large potholes that leads to a very narrow tunnel where you come out directly onto the national road with no visibility and where cars pass by very quickly making it easy to have an accident. A motorhome cannot enter that tunnel, it is a total abandonment. To go to the beach, if you are able to park, you have to walk along a path to cross a field, there is nothing prepared for people with reduced mobility. Then the beach is what it is, an inlet from the sea through a subterranean cave, something curious but not spectacular, worth seeing if the accesses were in good condition and the environment wasn't so utterly abandoned.
Fantastic experience: The wide dissemination of this geological curiosity on social media often makes it crowded with a legion of visitors. Nevertheless, one should not leave the Asturian East without having visited it, trying to find moments of lesser crowding when possible.
Fantastic experience: I stay more with the route we were able to take with the rancher El Manchego and his wife. They showed us corners of the area that are not well known. They also explained details and curiosities that are appreciated to know.
Positive experience: It's a nice place, the downside is that it's a bit out of the way and not very spacious.
Negative experience: A scam, we arrived at the parking next door, which charges you 3 euros, even if you leave in 4 minutes, full of tourists thinking they were going to bathe with children and families. The weather was a bit bad (something normal in the north), the beach was a disappointment, the tide was low so there was hardly any water. The only good thing was the bar, with nice and friendly people.
Negative experience: You leave the car about 50 meters from the main road you came on. But no one mentions the nightmare of having to drive back after visiting the beautiful and curious beach along a mandatory 650-meter path where you can't avoid the huge potholes caused by the neglect of 'some irresponsible people', which ruin the good impression that the beach visit had left us.
Positive experience: It's a very interesting and peculiar place. There are cliffs and other curious formations in the area. We met two locals who insisted a lot on going with them to see supposedly more beautiful places, but they inspired us with distrust and we declined the offer.
Fantastic experience: A beautiful spot, you wouldn't expect to find such a fantastic place. If you are passing near Llanes, don't miss visiting it; it's spectacular. We went in March, and despite the rain, we didn't stop visiting it.
Fantastic experience: Lovely!!!
Fantastic experience: I recommend checking the tides before going, as on my visit the tide was low and it loses a bit of its spectacularity. We spent a few hours waiting for it to rise and it looks amazing, it's a really cool place to see.
Fantastic experience: It's worth coming to see. A small beach with water emerging from under the rocks of the mountain.
Positive experience: Surreal experience at Gulpiyuri beach. A couple of villagers approached us with a little white dog, claiming to be the owners of the land and the cows... They acted as our guides around the area and then asked us to buy products from artisans who are facing economic difficulties... They are good people, but... I'll leave it at that. The beach itself isn't worth much if you go during low tide.
Fantastic experience: Gulpiyuri beach, located in the Llanes region, is a natural treasure that captivates with its uniqueness. Despite its modest size, this inland beach offers a unique experience as it is connected to the sea through an underground cave. Surrounded by green meadows and cliffs, its limited access creates a tranquil and picturesque atmosphere. Its crystal-clear waters and fine sand make it a charming destination for those seeking a secluded spot filled with natural beauty.
Positive experience: Famous as well as curious Asturian beach, near Llanes, which emerges in some meadows close to the coastline... But well differentiated from it. The beach follows its tidal cycles, and when the tide is low, the sand contrasts curiously with the green meadows. At high tide, the sea occupies the entire beach, giving it the appearance of a salt lagoon. It is truly a curious place.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful even at low tide
Positive experience: The beach is very beautiful at high tide. However, I don't see clearly how to access it... since we went in October, we parked on the road without obstructing the passage (there is no designated parking), and we were fined 200 euros.
Fantastic experience: Beautiful inland beach declared a Natural Monument. It is made up of quartz sands and is set back, giving this beach a pool-like appearance. It is ideal for families as it is very sheltered and calm compared to the strong waves of the Cantabrian Sea. You can leave your car in a nearby parking lot and walk, but it's best to get there by motorcycle to avoid the parking queues and having to walk excessively to the beach.
Fantastic experience: Curious beach that I was unlucky to catch at low tide. Still, it's worth it. The beach has formed due to a crack in the cliff that allows water to pass during high tide or storms. I visited it in low season and it was easy to park for free and you reach it in a 10-minute easy walk. Moreover, you can climb up the side to the top of the cliff and enjoy the coastline. Be careful where you leave your car because it's easy to get fined. In summer, I think they open a paid parking lot.
